  1. Or maybe send the fiancee to one of the lines as I wait in another. Yes -- I use the "deploy your children" strategy -- after all, I really want them to get the sigs and not me, but if you are going to get items signed -- you really need more bodies. True story... A couple of seasons ago -- One of my daughters wanted to get Ohka to sign a card for her. She wanted him to sign in Japanese, so I instructed her to ask "Mr. Ohka" very politely and clearly what she wanted him to do. She sort of panicked and said "Would you please sign in Japanese Mr. Tapioca." -- and then she moved to the next guy -- Cappy I think -- and said "You don't need to sign in Japanese" Good stuff.
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Kendall have an option that vests if he gets that many appearances? Yeah -- It's pretty likely he will be on the payroll in 2009... given that we don't have a strong #2, and Kendall can make 140+ starts a year easily. " Performance bonuses could tack on an additional $1 million if he makes at least 130 starts, and his contract includes a guaranteed option for 2009 if he starts 110 games."
  3. That's the funniest Soriano joke I've ever heard! Yeah -- I thought he was a very decent OFer, probably one of the best corners in the league. Also, keeping him as a PH allows them to still have him in case Soriano or Fukudome go down. Sure -- I bet they just want to move him.
  4. BHF, think the odds are pretty good that I can get Gagne and Simmons or at least Gagne getting their around 9? I'll rudely jump in http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I understand the following. Parking lot opens 9AM Gate opens 10AM Autos at 10:30 Royals BP 11:40 They used to do these in shifts over a couple of hours. I bet that the players will all sign at the same time, 30 minutes max. -- I doubt you will have time to go through 2 lines -- as every line will have at least one "star" in it probably. If Salomon Torres was in a line by himself, I am sure you could go to his line, and then someone like Bill Castro. So, it won't pay to get there at 6AM and it will be probably be one line.
  5. He may not be of much use to the Cubs considering he can't play center and they have two full-time type corner guys who play excellent defense, but you would think they could at least use him as a PH. He's probably worth more to the Cubs as trade bait than as a PHer.
  6. Great -- thanks Whizkid.
  7. Heck, who wouldn't want their starting pitcher to give up ALL his runs in his first start, while throwing shutouts for the rest of the year. Maybe that was what Joe Winklesas was doing?
  8. I'm confused by this. It seems like your saying that Cappy is undergoing TJ simply because he was ineffective. I didn't word it very well -- Sometimes athletes get injured and require surgery in a collision or "snapping tendon" manner -- i.e. something breaks or goes bad all at one time. Sometimes an athlete is unable to perform properly, -- for example, a pitcher cannot throw without pain, or cannot get his breaking pitches to work -- so they look at the arm, and then they discover issues that require surgery. My question was "what caused Cappy to go under the scalpel?" -- Was it a "snapping tendon" or perhaps he was laboring too hard to pitch effectively so they had the DR. look at his arm.
  9. yeah -- I am getting to the age, where there are fewer and fewer players (only a handful...) playing that are older than me. Also there are guys like Ripken, Gwynn, Boggs, etc. that I clearly remember as young rookies, now in the HOF. -- Even worse, guys like Bob Boone and Buddy Bell were up and coming players when I was really young, now their kids are retired/washed up. As Al would say: OOF.
  10. On a related note.... Did Cappy injure himself in ST, or was the need for TJ surgery discovered due to his ineffectiveness? The reason I wonder, is because if DM overestimated Cappy's trade demand like he did Vargas -- he could have non-tendered both of them.
  11. Because he came off a career year in St. Louis and dominated the Brewers every time he faced them for years. And what do we get in return? A mediocre year for big time money. In all fairness -- Suppan played in front of a MUCH better defense in St. Louis than he did in Milw. last year.
  12. Graffy and Counsel standing up for you, hey i can see that. I seem to recall that Graffy was going after Yost as well.
  13. I think most everyone else would agree that the Brewers came out behind in the deal... I was happy the Brewers moved Davis. The only thing that troubles me is if DM saw any value in Estrada/Aquino/Vargas. Im ok with Davis being in AZ making $7M+ per year, however this reminds me of the Linebrink deal -- I was not against trading Inman, but I feel like DM whiffed on Thatcher and overvalued Linebrink.
  14. I think the Reds are on the rise -- I think they could win the division if the winner is around 81 games.
  15. You could argue that Estrada did get us the inside track on Mota No, I don't think you could -- I am pretty sure we could have traded that Maxim St. Pierre guy for Mota if we would have picked up Mota's salary. I can't imagine counting on McClung in that role. Yeah. The only role McClung should be counted on for is Frankenstein. And the notion that Mota is apparently worth more than Vargas hurts my brain. If you look at it all as a whole, none of it makes sense. We are married to Mota for awhile. We wasted $3M on Mota and another $900K on Vargas.
  16. It doesn't make sense for Vargas to make $3M pitching in Nashville.
  17. Iirc, his D was sound, too? eh. He was pretty shot when he got to Milw.
  18. I did it -- Good Luck!
  19. Yeah -- the merger makes quite a bit of sense to me. They should have let Direct and Dish merge a few years ago.
  20. I don't think subscriptions are going to go up -- I think people will be able to purchase things that they can't have access to right now. This guy seems to think the subscription rate will drop.
  21. I know this has been talked about in the past... FCC still needs to sign off on it... Read about it here EDIT: Spelling fix - Brian
  22. From this article... I think batting TGJ 2nd in any scenario is reason for concern. "It's safe to say that Kendall will bat ninth in the early part of the season. Manager Ned Yost is still trying to decide on a few spots in the lineup. It looks like Gwynn may bat second until Mike Cameron returns from his 25-game suspension. Yost is considering J.J. Hardy for that spot, but Hardy is working his way back from a flu-like illness that cost him a week of playing time and about 10 pounds from his already thin frame. Yost also isn't sure whether he'll bat Bill Hall or Corey Hart fifth behind Ryan Braun. Other than that, though, the lineup is pretty much set. "
  23. A couple of quibbles. I think the site overwhelmingly likes Shouse for what he is -- I think the negativity comes with how Ned uses him. I'd add Melvin/Front Office to the good guys. I'd add Maddux to a list. I am not sure which I think the site is overall positive about Gagne and Cameron as well.
  24. My old man used to pull out my loose teeth with a needlenose pliers when they were loose. It's funny sometimes the things you recall from your childhood.
