  1. If we had the 2003 roster, and were way out of the playoff chase -- with crappy players -- would Yost get a D? I think so. I think he was a horrible manager then as well, I think the difference was that Yost needed some time.
  2. That was my point. It should have been in blue. I don't get how, first, a journalist does that, then, an editor doesn't catch it. I thought that was your point -- the follow-up posts threw me off, as I thought they replied to yours. I agree 100% though -- you gotta correct that typo.
  3. Can Mota be sent down ala Turnbow? What are the waivers issues he would have to get through? Anybody know? Mota can not be sent down in the same manner as Turnbow. Mota has 5+ years of service Turnbow has 3-5 years. Turnbow could have refused the assignment to Nash, but he would have forfeited his salary. Mota on the other hand can refuse his assignment, and still get his cash. Mota has no reason to accept the assignment. If he does accept the assignment he would have to pass through waivers, but I dont think it would get to that point. Pretty much releasing Mota is Doug's only option, besides letting him stink in our BP, or hoping he contracts "Dessensitis" and takes a few weeks on the DL.
  4. I said many, not all. If you don't fall in that group, fine, but in my opinion, they're out there. Hey, my Nana always told me, if you get the opportunity to embrace hatred in its purest form, you do it!
  5. I'd say that has more to do with a pure hatred for everything Yost than anything else. Can my title be -- Pure Yostian Hatred?
  6. From today's JS: "Chicago followed the Brewers' acquisition of Sabathia by trading for Oakland ace Dan Haren but Yost said he gave no thought to that tit-for-tat." Harden AND Haren? The Brewers are screwed. Unless I am missing something, Haren plays for the D-backs. Must have been a typo.
  7. The reason Turnbow went to AAA was that he didnt have 5 years of service -- his situation is different than Mota's
  8. If DFA'd, will anyone claim him though? If not, he'll be sitting in AAA wasting millions (although that's still better than him blowing games in the bigs), correct? If Mota is DFA'd, something like this will transpire: DM: Hey Mota, we need to send you to Nashville to make room for a non-sucky pitcher in our bull-pen. GM: golpee la arena DM: eh? GM: Pound sand, Doug. DM: And that GM: Oh, and keep sending me my $3.2M salary, I have 7+ years of service time DM: And that GM: Of course if I get claimed by another team, they will pay me a pro-rated portion of the MLB minimum salary, you will be on the hook for the rest. DM: Where'd you get that blue glove.? GM: Spencer's in the mall DM: And That GM: Why do you keep saying that? DM: It's Canadian for "Yost sucks". GM: And That indeed. Fin
  9. Ned has a custom made majik 8-ball in the dugout You mean Clucky the Tic tac toe playing chicken. -- The 8-ball has too many sharp edges for the Brewers dugout.
  10. Mets win this trade, by simply taking the trash to the curb.
  11. Are you going to start a Thanks Matt, Zach, Rob, and PTBNL thread? I hope so. I'll definitely be interested in the progress of those players.
  12. or insert favorite female celeb here I will choose to insert favorite female celeb here.
  13. If you don't want to give him credit, that's fine... but that's where 'vague rip' came in. That is entirely your imagination. Balfour did get us McClung, we can't really complain too much. I'm not complaining -- just sincerely happy Grant is punching people out like I knew he could;
  14. How about Grant Balfour ? 27 Ks in 17 IP -- Yowza. Good for Grant, he got the shaft here, and I'm glad to see he is doing so well.
  15. Also I think it's pretty safe to assume they'll add a bullpen arm, so I don't get the point of saying now that Melvin should be fired if he doesn't address the bullpen. Agreed. I hope you are right.
  16. You don't give Doug Melving any credit at all for the Sabathia deal? What I responded to was "major credit". I think this deal was all about have multiple desirable prospects for DM to deal with. I think the "major credit" goes to JZ on this. I never said DM doesn't deserve any credit -- I think he did his job, but JZ deserves the doughnut with sprinkles. Thanks for clarifying Whatever, you're welcome I suppose. would've been nice to see instead of just a vague rip on Melvin. I never ripped on DM vague or otherwise. I think my point was clear, that DM would not been able to pull off this deal w/o JZ doing his job, and you readily confirmed that with your follow-up post. The guy who gets on the phone and does all the negotiating and that will take all the heat if this goes wrong doesn't get any credit? Big props to Dougie for being able to use the phone! Seriously though, I don't think DM didn't do anything every last GM could have done, if they would have had an AA team with 10 all-stars on it.
  17. What would it take to get Marte? It is interesting that we could have 7 picks in the first 35. If we were to trade for Marte I'd rather exercise the option. There is probably some wisdom in spreading out your draft picks as well. Some drafts are deeper than others, I'd probably want 7 picks over 2 years.
  18. Well, that's how you land a player like Sabathia. You don't get him for LaPorta + Bryson. Exactly -- and that's why DM should not get credit and JZ should. If DM would have landed CC for LaPorta+Bryson, then I would concede that DM had performed GM wizardry. DM had the most "prospect capital" to work with, which was the fruits of JZ's labor.
  19. I give him major credit for CC. I don't. He was essentially the highest bidder. I do give Jack Z huge props for giving DM an unsurmountable advantage, in the CC sweepstakes. I think he has more work to do -- If we acquire CC and the Brewers fall short because the BP is not addressed, and we lose LaPorta/Brantley/Green for nothing, I think he should be fired immediately.
  20. I asked my then-girlfriend's parents permission, and they wouldn't give it to me. I married her anyway. Yeah, I think it it disingenuous to ask for permission, and then (I assume) proceed to do what you set out to do in the first place. I guess I would "declare my intentions" rather than "ask for permissions". I find that I ultimately regret any input/control extended to my inlaws. I think if you "declare" rather than "ask" -- you may skip some of the awkwardness....
  21. Why would you do this? -- I didn't ask my inlaws. Good Luck, all the same.
  22. Awful compared to what? His deal was market value. I have always felt that Suppan's deal was over-priced to some degree because of his success in the post-season with the Cardinals. Lets just assume that Suppan pitches his career averages the last 3 months...any chance another team could take him? I think there is a chance he could be traded -- but I think the crux of your question is, "is it possible to trade Suppan to keep Sheets?" -- I don't think we will be able to trade Suppan without paying his salary, or some other salary of an overpriced vet. I suppose we could trade Suppan+Gamel to someone -- or something like that. More than likely we hang onto Suppan.
  23. I'm not sure why people think it's either Escobar or Hardy either. Me either. The Indians have Peralta, who is very similar to Hardy, and Asdrubal Cabrera in AAA. They may want to upgrade Peralta, but I think any move bringing a player like Hardy to the Indians would include Peralta getting shipped out.
