  1. If Ned doesn't use EG and Shouse, Riske, or Turnbow blows the save, everyone is up in arms about how our $10 million closer who has converted his last 4 saves wasn't in the game. False. I am beginning to think that the word "everyone" needs to be in the cuss filter. I was in the chat, and there were people that thought bringing in Gagne was a mistake before he threw a pitch, and then there were people who thought Gagne should get the ball. The people that thought Gagne should get the ball, were disappointed that the Brewers lost, but tended to think the goat was Gagne. The people that wanted Gagne to get rest thought the goat was Yost. Both were reasonable positions. The posters here are very consistent with their positions. Using blanket/strawpeople arguments are really getting old. I didn't want to see Gagne today unless there was a 15 inning game or Yo would have gotten chased in the 2nd inning and the Brewers got back in the game.
  2. Since when? Since always -- LHanded batters that throw with their RH, (which Bako is), have their dominant hand on the bottom of the bat. Therefore they have more of an uppercut swing which makes the worst pitch for a RHer to throw to a LHer the low inside pitch. -- Conversely, LHers like Bako struggle more with high inside pitches. Of course this is a pretty general statement -- but Gagne put that pitch in the worst possible place -- low/inside right off the plate.
  3. Bako hits what looks like a low inside curveball/slider combo that had great location, to me. That's a bad pitch to a left-handed hitter.
  4. Press Conferences are just meant to sell newspapers. Why should Ned Yost care about selling newspapers?
  5. Yeah I would figure by tomorrow the whole roster situation will be all figured out at least until April 29th when Cameron comes off the suspension then another move will be made. Will Cameron go to AAA to get into playing shape?
  6. WEll yeah, but no question about when Stetter goes back down? I assume tomorrow with Gwynn then coming up. It sort of makes sense to keep Stetter today against the Reds. It still means no RH bench hitter when facing a lefty starter. Yeah -- I can't believe they are going to go without a RH guy on the bench until they figure out what to do with Sheets.
  7. Turnbow was 40th in relievers expected wins added. *shrugs* -- I am not very impressed by that. Again, I don't think Turnbow is terrible compared to the entire body of relief pitchers in the NL, I think he is terrible compared to the guys who are closing games, and the guys that are setting those guys up. I know you think Turnbow was some terrible pitcher but that just isn't the case He allowed 12 of 14 inherited runners to score, that is not doing his job well. I don't think Turnbow is terrible -- I just don't think he is reliable. Really, at the end of day, it boils down to this for me: If Yost is only going to use Turnbow in the 8th inning of games we are losing 7-2, $3.3 million is a lot to pay for that inning. I'd rather Turnbow get a fresh start somewhere else, and let some clown like McClung/Spurling pitch that inning for a tenth of the cost.
  8. If Parra is sent out, I doubt he'd leave the team, at least until they know what's up with Sheets. Ben would just have to be DL'd for Manny to be reactivated. Great point. Using this train of thought, I would think Bush (less options), is probably safe. I suppose we can just bury our heads in the sand and pretend he wasnt effective last year because he had a few bad outings. This simply isn't true -- Turnbow really was not effective last year. I really think that DM and Yost have lost faith in him as well. If DM/Yost thought Turnbow was a decent pitcher that had a couple of bad outings, Turnbow would be pitching in games that the Brewers were winning. That way we can depend on a slew of guys that are unproven and never likely to have anywhere near the success T-bow has had. I think Gagne/Riske/Villy/Shouse/Torres and probably even Mota are better options to give the ball to in a meaningful game. I think McClung is a better garbage inning guy, as he is cheaper and can pitch 2-3 innings if needed. Essentially Turnbow is a 3 million dollar garbageman. It's probably time to move on, and I sincerely Turnbow gets a chance with another team and makes the most of it.
  9. I think Stetter makes the most sense to go down. Two LOOGY's is just a waste of a roster spot. I don't think it is fair to call Stetter a LOOGY, he has pitched pretty decent against RHers. Shouse should not be pitching against RHers, but I don't think Yost has used Shouse as a LOOGY yet this year. In either case, I'd be interested to keep Stetter around today to deal with some of Cincy's LHers. The waste of a roster spot is Turnbow who has only pitched in 4 games, with only one appearance that could remotely be considered meaningful. Turnbow has seemed to slip behind McClung on the depth chart. I'd probably be inclined to DFA Turnbow, and then move him to the highest bidder. EDIT: I would be nervous about sending Bush, Parra or Villy down until the Brewers knew what was up with Sheets.
  10. I would assume Stetter would stick around today at least to pitch to the Reds.
  11. Probably BBQ Nachos ... Not my favorite meal, but my skills in the kitchen reiterate the fact that I'm blessed to be married to someone who can cook quite well. Yep. I can make meatball subs -- that is about my ceiling -- my wife certainly could make better ones, but refuses to.
  12. I've heard a lot of interesting criticisms of Yost, but this one is truly unique. I know what JB12 is getting at -- putting that shift on was effectively giving Jr. an IBB. I think if Yost would have given Jr. an IBB in that situation it would have been dumb.
  13. Has anyone heard when Yo is supposed to make his first start? Sunday?
  14. And just out of curiosity, when has Ned talked down to fans? I've always found him to be a pretty good guy actually? I find him ultra-surly and snarky when asked about questions about his decisions in a game. I think if he was a posted on BF.net he get banned rather quickly. There was that whole "couch" comment last year, and then he lied about hitting Pujols, and many many other things.
  15. I think it's actually encouraging that they knew about the pain all week and still sent him out there. We will see what the MRI brings.
  16. The terms of that contract look pretty damn good to me from the Rays perspective I agree -- I think it is a decent, albeit tangible risk.
  17. But the thing is, Turnbow isn't the closer, and for his salary is still a good option out of the bullpen Turnbow is not even close to being the closer. I think it was really telling that Turnbow didn't get the call last night. Sheets only pitched 5 innings and the game was pretty safe -- I just don't think the team has a lot of faith in him. Shouse/Riske/Torres/Gagne all have 7/8 appearances while Turnbow has many appearances as Sheets (4). In Turnbow's 4 appearances -- only one was "close" -- the 12-4 Josh Fogg debacle. Turnbow came in when the score was 5-3, and the Brewers were into the Reds BP, and I think the Brewers expected Turnbow to "hold serve" which he didn't do. Turnbow has pitched in 4 games, the Brewers have lost all 4 games. Now, I am not saying Turnbow is to blame for all 4 losses -- in fact he is not. -- Turnbow has not made an appearance in a game where the Brewers were tied or ahead -- it is pretty clear to me that Turnbow is not a part of the BP rotation in games where we hope (probability wise) to win. Every team needs a garbage inning pitcher -- I have come to think I would rather have McClung in that role than Turnbow -- I am beginning to think if we could flip Turnbow for a prospect and dump his salary, we could keep cheaper McClung to toss multiple innings in games we have minimal chances of winning.
  18. Manty (and FTJ) -did you go VIP? If so, what's in the promo bags these days? No. I'd rather poke around in the card tables than stand in line for the athletes.
  19. 1. I think he is decent 2. No 3. No 4. Yes
  20. Sometimes I wish I was more mature. I hope every last wish of yours come true. Anyway, Turnbow is pretty frustrating to figure out. By this point I'd be fine if they moved him. Kind of like Jorge de la Rosa. I was so enamored with his stuff, enough to give him a much longer leash than others, but eventually you had to move on. I think Turnbow is pretty easy to figure out. He can't reliably locate his off-speed pitches. If a manager rolls the dice and Turnbow is getting his breaking stuff over the plate, or batters are over-anxious -- you have a pretty unhittable pitcher, but if Turnbow is unable to use his off-speed stuff, it's pretty much chuck and duck. I think you are right that it is time to move on.
  21. HOU should be furious, as they thought he'd be 33 at the end of his deal, not now. His decline will very likely come fast and hard. As if the Astros didn't have enough problems. You would think teams would sort of assume that players from Latin America could be lying about their age. They probably either knew, and didn't want their fanbase to know, or someone did not do their due diligence.
  22. I do think the records so far don't indicate much, but I guess I was also trying to point out that at the least, the team does have a winning record--can't have my cake and eat it, too. I hear you -- there are ~150 games and a lot could happen -- I'd take 8-6 given the Brewers hitting "attack" the last few games. I may have read what you were typing wrong, I took it to mean that 8-6 was a good harbinger but 11-4 could be dismissed -- sorry if I caused confusion.
  23. Don't forget you guys started beating up Michael Barret. -- Getting everybody healthy was probably as big as anything.
  24. I think that's exactly what he's trying to say. 8-6 does mean nothing. No, I think he said 8-6 is winning baseball -- which it is, but so is 11-4 then. You just can't claim that the Brewers are off to a good start and then be dismissive of the Cardinals start.
  25. I don't think a team in the last twenty years has mass-produced Yo-quality pitchers with relative ease No team produces pitchers like Yo with ease or any top flight pitcher for that matter. In the last 20 years though, the Brewers have been pretty miserable at producing pitching. The A's produced Haren, Zito, Mulder, and Hudson -- for a quick example.
