  1. Can someone explain why Shouse, as a bullpen lefty, is pretty much a LOOGY, but Stetter is used multiple innings? Because historically Stetter hasn't been used as a LOOGY in the minors and has pitched multipled innings. Shouse has been used as a LOOGY for most of his career. Stetter's wind up causes righties to miss on his pitches and allows him to be effective. Stetter is used to being used 1 inning plus.
  2. I gotta' say that I have my doubts about all of Weeks, Braun, Fielder, Hall, Hart and Hardy continuing at the rate they're at. I agree. My point is I don't care who the pitcher is. The bats will hopefully come around and we won't have to worry about the pitcher or the ump's strike zone. As far as Stetter, I've met him a few times in Nashville and he's flat out a funny guy. I wish the best to him. I don't think his stuff is great, but I do think is wind up is causing for some problems for the hitters right now. I don't know if that'll be a long-term thing or if they'll figure it out, but I'm really happy for Mitch. Great job so far!
  3. It had nothing to do with that Stetter was going to face the lefties--Bush was there for only the first hitter. He's saving his bench for the chance this game may go extra innigns nad run out of players in the 10th How? He only has 2 bench players (I don't consider the catcher as a bench player). Would Counsell or Gwynn have gotten Hardy home? Or are you thinking Kendall would've done well? It just wasn't the right time in my mind to gamble, but I do see your point. Bush's pitch count was already pretty high.
  4. I'm not going to make excuses on what pitcher the Brewers face --- at least Hamels is a lefty. The offense has struggled lately and it still is. There isn't such a thing as a weak schedule in a 162 game season. The boys gotta have better at bats. That's the disappointing part of it.
  5. I'm pretty sure he didn't pinch hit Bush because he didn't want to use his cashed bullpen. That's fine if you don't pinch hit for him, but then let him stay in for longer than ONE batter. In this instance I think the "bashing" is warranted. I see your point and respect it, but I think he was buying time to get to Stetter. A guy at first and with the potential guys on the bench to pinch hit for Bush it really wouldn't have gotten the offense going in my opinion. And Bush is one of the better hitting pitchers on the team. True, but what's amazing is that Ned managed to burn out 13-14 arms. That's quite a feat. TLB you and I pretty much agree on some points, but I don't think he's burned that many arms. I think the fact that the Brewers have played that many extras -- and for some stupid reason refuse to DL Sheets. Wouldn't it only cost a few more games if they did that now? That's what I don't get? We can complain about Turnbow not playing, but now it should be Sheets. He's essentially been on the roster 10 days between his last start and his "next" start. DL him. It would cost him one start.
  6. Stetter needs to stay up if possible. He's a good pitcher and a good guy.
  7. There really shouldn't be Yost managing bashing at all. Whether it's Melvin or Yost there shouldn't be 14 pitchers on the team. That's making Yost's decisions that much more difficult. This is a joke. Put Sheets on the DL and what we lose? One start? Sheets is the problem or the Brewers lack of addressing the injury properly. Sheets on the DL ASAP please.
  8. Agreed but in both cases it was 3-1 count meaning he felt like he had to get something up True, but he didn't make the pitches he had to. He's getting squeezed a bit, but with the Phillies power it's tough to have to hit spots. I do agree with you, but I hate to blame results on the umps. Bush isn't an ideal guy to have to hit spots since he doesn't have a real + pitch if his location is off and he's behind in the count.
  9. The ump won;t give Bush a low strike hance the problems I agree with that, but he groved some pretty nice home run pitches to the balls that went out in my opinion. It happens and I'm not too worried about it.
  10. Could someone please send Bush a real estate guide for Nashville? For better or worse I think Bush would be claimed. He wouldn't make it to Nashville in my opinion.
  11. It matters to the extent that we can't teach our guys proper plate discipline if they keep getting hosed like that. There will be bad calls, but when our guys are swinging at early pitches that aren't in the zone it doesn't matter. We can't blame losses on bad calls -- even if there are some. I hate blaming games on umps and yea it was a bad call, but the Brewers have to deal with it. 2 guys on and zero outs and nobody moving up a base can't be blamed on an ump. I do give Fielder a ton of credit for talking to the ump in a civil way about it.
  12. How many pitches has Bush thrown? Hamels?
  13. The calls don't even really matter to a certain degree. 2 on with zero outs and zero runners advanced is the main point. It was a bad pitch to Prince, but you can't really win too many close games when you don't take advantage of 2 guys one with zero outs. They were pretty solid in that regard early on so hopefully it's just a fluke.
  14. Fermaint isn't going to get demoted at this point. Too few at bats. We'll see where he's at in a month or so. I think Luis Pena gets promoted to Milwaukee at some point this year and hopefully because of how he's pitching and not how the Milwaukee bullpen is pitching.
  15. McClungs AAA stats were phenomenal last year. I don't know if you were agreeing with me, but yes McClung's stats in AAA were very good. The Brewers also had some guys with really good pitching AAA stats that never made it to the show in '07 or are no longer in the organization.
  16. I know there have been some comments about how bad Gross was as a pinch-hitter and he might not fit the role needed by the Brewers. How does his pinch hitting average compare to the major league pinch hitting average? I thought the pinch hitter average was quite a bit lower than an everyday player average. Is that right or am I wrong on this?
  17. A week from today, Gabe Gross or Tony Gwynn were going to see thier chances to get in a game fall off very dramatically, so in my eyes the question becomes which guy brings more to that last guy off the bench, bunt a guy over, late inning relacement role, and I don't think there's any question, its Gwynn. I do think this isn't a bad trade, but I think it's pretty clear you weren't a Gross fan which is fine. My question for you though is can the Brewers rely the rest of the season on a 35 year old outfielder staying healthy all year? If he doesn't stay healthy, I think Gwynn is going to get a ton of playing time. Again it's not a bad trade, but Gross isn't a horrible player and it's not a sure fire bet that Cameron is going to take all the starts away from the 4th or 5th OFer --- there is the possibility a 35 year old OF gets hurt or needs more days off than a younger guy.
  18. But let's be honest - when Cameron gets back, where was Gross going to get that "consistent playing time?" Odd are, he was not going to. He's not as good as Hart and definitely not as good as Braun. So where would he be for Milwaukee? Getting occasional playing time off the bench. Not a good situation for Gross, especially for those supporters who want him to get "consistent playing time." I think you may be missing my point and I'm assuming others points. I put in my post that Milwaukee may not be the situation to get consistent playing time. I thought I made it clear and if I didn't I apologize that Milwaukee doesn't fit the consistent playing time that I personally think Gross needs. Obviously he's not going to start over Braun, Cameron, or Hart. Again, I tried to specifically put in my post that Milwaukee and playing everyday isn't a good fit. I also wouldn't bash the "supporters" who want him to get consistent playing time because my guess is they're meaning the same thing I am. He'll be more productive playing everyday and that wasn't going to happen in Milwaukee. I'm wondering looking back at it if the Brewers handled Gross' time in Milwaukee the best. Part of me thinks he should've been in AAA to play everyday from day one, but I guess there's no real way to know if that would've mattered. I personally think it's a pretty good trade for the Brewers and Gross. Hopefully it works out for both sides.
  19. I don't understand how "he just needs consistent playing time" is a valid argument for Gross's production. The fact is, he was never going to get consistent playing time with the Brewers, so what mattered was how he performed in the role we had available - backup OF and PH. From what I've seen of his stats, he doesn't do well in that role. It will be better for him to go somewhere where he has a chance to start everyday. I think you pretty much summed up your not understanding "he just needs consistent playing time" with your ending statement that it's better for him to start everyday. Saying that he needs to play everyday doesn't mean it should be in Milwaukee. He tore up AAA when he started everyday last year and like I've said before Gabe has said that the more consistent playing time he gets the more likely he is to produce. He's a taller guy and a la Corey Hart struggles a bit when his swing isn't consistent and getting at bats everyday is a great way to do that.
  20. Was Butler schedule to pitch against the Manatees tonight?
  21. Never understood the dislike that people have had for Gross. The guy's a good player, especially when he gets consistent PT. It's no coincidence that once he got to settle in for a while he started to hit. I agree. It's one of the things he mentioned a few times in Nashville and I've brought this up before. Being a pinch hitter doesn't really fit his skills at this point since I think he's still developing a bit and consistent playing time goes a long ways in terms of his production.
  22. I've gotten a chance to meet Gross a few times. Best of luck to him and I hope he gets a shot to play every day at some point. Good luck Gabe!
  23. I understand the reasoning in a way, but I think it was quite obvious that Manny was gassed A start has to find a way to go five innings. If we constantly have to take the start out before that, it's going to be a long year. We also don't have a day off for nearly a week. Keeping Manny in was the right thing.
