  1. Someone tell me how you justify this. I don't consider myself a Yost backer and I'm kind of on the fence with him, but why is Gagne this fragile closer that can't pitch 4 days in a row? IIRC Coco went 6 straight days last year and I think he did quite well. For $10 million, Gagne should be able to get 1 out of 3 guys out and he didn't today. Could Yost have brought someone else in? Sure. It's early in the season and hopefully Yost knows that Gagne is fragile and can't be counted on more than 3 days in a row. Gagne even last year was somewhat durable. He pitched 3 times in 2 days last year and 4 times in 4 days. I don't think it's such an eye popping move that it's being made out to be here. It's early in the season and again Yost hasn't had Gagne on his team before and hopefully we'll learn from it. If you want to called it being Yosted, that's fine. A series win is still a series win -- even with the fragile pedless $10 million arm that when he's great it's because he's good and when he's bad (see the IGTs from his blown saves) it's Yosts fault. Typical treatment of Ned Yost.
  2. Yost just lost the sweep for us. Was it his fault that Weeks couldn't do squat with runners in scoring position?
  3. As for jumping all over Gagne. Between Fukodome's HR and the 2 HR's today, Gagne has given up a total of TWO BASERUNNERS (one was the solo HR to Patterson in Milwaukee) over 6 outings. Get off his back. He'll be fine. To me, the problem is the home run balls he's giving up. That's not good for a closer to be doing in tight situations, but I don't think he's been awful. It's just that any batter with any power will have a shot to hit one out on him it looks like. I'm not ripping on him it's just not a good thing so far with the long ball.
  4. But it was also 20 on Thursday I still don't think it's asking that much. Giving up back to back jacks is pretty bad, but maybe Gagne just can't pitch 4 days in a row. I swear Coco did 6 last year and pitched pretty well in most of them. I have no problem with Gagne in the 4th day based on those pitch counts, but after the first HR someone should've been warming up.
  5. 19 on Friday and 11 yesterday I guess I don't have too much of a problem with it. It was a risk and the only thing I would've liked to see was a guy warming up sooner. Is anyone warming up in the pen yet?
  6. I wasn't able to watch any of the games this weekend (local blackout). How many pitches did Gagne throw on Friday and Saturday?
  7. It's like Gagne broke into Mark A's private vault this offseason, stole 10 million dollars, and ran off with the money. He needs the Peds. 10 million doesn't go as far in that regard as it used to...
  8. I don't even remember Ned throwing CoCo or Turnbow out there 4 days in a row. I still don't know why he'd do it to Gagne. I thought last year Coco pitched 6 straight days or something like that. I'm not positive though.
  9. Why is he out there? And no this isnt second-guessing yost. 4 days in a row is crazy with guys like Riske and Mota available 4 days or not giving up back to backs (especially to Bako) is pretty bad. I do agree that he didn't need to be out there, but Gagne isn't going to be a sure thing by any means this year.
  10. I wouldn't think of sending Weeks down until after the homestand. Let these guys get a few games in the home park that they like so much before worrying about it. I see your point and I don't think we have to send him down now, but there comes a point and time where the team is going to have to make a decision with Rickie and Rickie's allowing them the opportunity to make a decision to send him down. Hopefully he gets it figured out soon. He doesn't have the injury excuse anymore so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
  11. Or Iribarren, though his defense isn't stellar. I wouldn't mind seeing that. It'll be interesting to see if he starts getting some playing time at 2nd base for Nashville in the next week or so.
  12. He has 1. I think it might be a good idea to send him down to Nashville in a few weeks if this keeps up. The problem is though we don't have Crabbe waiting in the wings anymore and we'd have to go with Counsell, Dillon, and/or Nunez.
  13. Weeks is coming dangerously close to coming under consideration for demotion. Does he have any options left?
  14. I think it's safe to say Rickie's hot last two months of last year have not carried over to this year.
  15. You don't have to agree with me or anyone else, it's all just conjecture at this point anyway. I was just trying to respond to other various points that others were making. If statistical and historical evidence told the facts, Steve Bray would be on the 40-man and would have gotten called up last year. There are 4A players and future major leaguers and Nashville had a bunch of 4Aers at least in the Brewers mind when it came to pitching last year. Great stats, but no call-up for some of those guys. That tells me it's not all about stats -- see Seth McClung.
  16. Has anyone had the chance to see Salome or will be seeing him soon?
  17. Except Sarfate couldn't do that because like McClung you never now when he walk everyone. I agree. Sarfate isn't perfect, but in my mind he's a better option for the most part than what we currently have in Nashville. He's be roughed up in Baltimore his past few appearances because of his control issues. He still had more value than simply letting him go in my mind, but that's just my opinion.
  18. I think you're missing my point. The thread started with some guys that we've lost/traded and my point is that over time a guy like say Sarfate could possibly get "bored" in the minors and that could lead to a production drop off. A call up to the bigs can maybe ignite a player. I think you can also throw Mike Rivera into that category if you look at his numbers from last year. Sarfate's production in the minors in 2007 may not be a true indication of his skill level. The fact that you're throwing names around in comparison to him that had better stats is why I believe my opinion is somewhat valid and possible. And my entire other point is that the Sarfate situation wasn't handled the best. This does happen in organizations from time to time, but the fact that Sarfate was claimed by Houston and then traded in the off-season in a multi player deal tells me he does have some trade value. Did they possibly try and trade him? Sure, but I haven't heard anything about that so that would be pure speculation on my part. I don't understand why they chose to let Sarfate off the 40-man at the time they wanted King when there were some guys on it who in my mind had no business being on the 40-man (Drew Anderson). That's just my opinion in a nutshell and I hope it makes some sense or is a little more clear. For the record, I think Sarfate could've helped the bullpen down the stretch even if it was in a mop up role. I think one major positive thing about the Brewers this year is that they have guys that can pitch multiple innings and Sarfate could do that.
  19. With Gwynn eligible on Saturday, and Gallardo likley on Sunday, not to mention the Weaver signing, this move does make it seem as if something could be up. I just don't think Gwynn will be back on the 25 man on Saturday since he's going to make some rehab starts in Nashville. My guess is this is going to help get Gwynn ready and buy time until Monday when the Brewers will send Stetter back down. Just my guess.
  20. I'm referring to comments like this: I got the feeling reading his father's (step father?) comments here on the site that the family wasn't too thrilled with the Brewers. I wouldn't put too much weight or thought on that. Like I've said before Sarfate enjoyed the Brewers organization. I think it is possible that whatever comments were made by his father or step-father get linked as to that's how Sarfate thought about things.
  21. I don't think I agree with "sloppy fat" and he has always been a big guy and that's one of the reasons I'd be cautious with signing him long-term. We really don't know how big Prince has got this year (or if he even got bigger) in a large part due to the Brewers inability to get him a uniform that comes close to fitting -- I'm sure that's the way Prince wants it. It'd be nice to see Fielder and Gagne at least come close to wearing uniforms that fit. Prince may weigh the same as last year, but it kind of looks like he's "hiding" something.
  22. I've never really wanted to sign Prince long-term as it became more clear that he's going to try and get every penny (his agent is Boras). I see more risk in signing Prince long-term than I do Braun. Fielder's defense also has regressed IMO since 2005 which makes me wonder what kind of 1b he'd be in five or seven years. 13 games hasn't changed my mind on Braun and the fact that I get the vibe that his contract would be more reasonable.
  23. You didn't really answer the question, if you wouldn't have brought up Sarfate either, what's to debate? If you would have then I would question your motives, you can't bring a pitcher with control issues into an already unsettled situtation, that's the very definition of setting someone up to fail. Again I'm not saying he would be an all-star. My point is that it wasn't handled the best. He was claimed by the Astros and he's now on the Orioles. That tells me the Brewers may have been able to trade him instead of getting nothing in return and adding King for a few weeks. I don't like seeing pitchers walk that way that in my mind still have some potential. That is my entire point. We got something for Thatcher and we got something for Eveland, but Sarfate we got nothing yet he's been on to major league teams since. I would have rather traded him or kept him through the year in case we needed another pitcher and it would also give the Brewers a chance to re-sign him. Obviously if he got major league offers he wouldn't have come back, but the Brewers must not have thought there would be interest in him or they could have simply traded him a few months earlier. I respect your opinion that you don't think Sarfate is very good, but please don't jump to conclusions on certain things. My point has been players can get bored if they're left in the minors too long and hopefully the Brewers make the right decisions and prevent guys like Sarfate from walking away with nothing in return. It just seems to me the majority of the board that posts about Sarfate hates the guy because his dad or step-dad posted here (I don't know if I ever read what he said). I don't think that's fair to Sarfate and he did enjoy the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
  24. Did we trade Wise or was he DFA'd? I thought he was DFA'd.
