  1. The real story is that Suppan allowed 8 guys to get on in 2 innings, IMO. I see your point, but the two kind of go hand in hand. Suppan by no means would have a shut out, but the Mets are doing things the Brewers don't. Putting the ball in play (i.e. also not just fly outs) and making the defense work which is advancing runners. Look at the "productive out" that Easley had to drive in a run. That's one place the Brewers need to improve.
  2. Fastball a little above the knees, Rickie. Don't know what else ya needed there. Perhaps a tee?
  3. Take every pitch or drop a good bunt. No double play here.
  4. And here I thought it was all those "productive hits" that were scoring these runs. Those hits aren't as productive if the Mets aren't seemingly moving guys to the next base on every out.
  5. It's just bad technique on Prince's part. He's playing to high and isn't bending his knees. That should have been cleared up by this point.
  6. Fielder has regressed since '05 on his defense. I'm not a big fan of that. The Mets guys were saying they were looking to hit it between 1st and 2nd because of Prince and Weeks lack of defense.
  7. The Mets announcers have said "productive outs" at least 5 times the past 2 innings...and boy is it true.
  8. We need our pitching and defense to keep us in the game until some of those hits start dropping. I don't feel overly confident right now about that.
  9. I'm getting sick of the Brewers "offense". In Home Run we trust.
  10. It's about time for Braun to get a walk.
  11. Why didn't we walk Schneider to get to Perez? If Weeks makes that play, it would've been the right move. Weeks would've had the out at home.
  12. Weeks defense has to add .5 ERA to the starters ERA.
  13. Thanks for the info! I hate to say this, but it looks like it's going to be a long season (at least first half of the season) for the Sounds. They ended up dropping both games last night to fall to 1 - 9. The Sounds appear to have some starting pitchers that are alright, but they are going to have some hard time generating some offense. They scored a combined 2 runs in the two 7 inning games. They have some power with Branyan and Nelson, but I think they will struggle to score runs until (hopefully) Escobar and LaPorta are called up. I got to see Pignatiello, Cotts, Gallagher pitch for the Cubs and from the little I saw (they combined 7 innings, 0 ER) I was pretty impressed. I was quite impressed with Gallagher. I did get to see Luis Pena toss the ball around to stay warm a bit -- I was really hoping to get a chance to see him at least warm up to see how fast he can throw, but the games didn't work out that way for the Sounds.
  14. I think I posted this in off-season somewhere, but I'll throw my thought out there again. If Rickie is healthy and consistent, it'd be like trading or signing a big free agent. I know a lot was made of the Brewers moves and to really go for it this year, but Weeks could be that prized off-season player if he plays like we all know he can.
  15. He has actually improved in every single area since 2005, but since people obsess on AVG for some reason(it is one of the least useful offensive stats) they assume he has not improved. Marginal improvements in terms of home runs per at bat and Ks per at bat. I wouldn't really put too much weight into some of those "improvements". He has increased his walk ratio quite a bit. I think this season should be a true indicator of how much or how little Weeks has improved.
  16. Right, he's 25 now meaning he was 24 last year when he provided above average production at 2B. Yes he's not Utley but then no one else is either. I agree that "bust" is probably too strong of a word, but how about disappointing? Being the number 2 pick in the draft comes with a ton of money and some expectations. Rickie's inability to stay healthy is one of the major reasons I think he is disappointing. He may have had "above average" production at 2B with the bat if he actually could stay healthy for a full year and play anything close to average defense. He doesn't have the bat up to this point to justify his poor defense and again hopefully he pans out, but my expecations of Rickie weren't that he'd be great at getting on base. It's good and all that this has been his success for far, but it's disappointing that August and September of last year is Rickie Weeks' calling card. It'd be nice to add some more months to that.
  17. I think part of the reason I think a trip to AAA could succeed for Bush (if he's not currently hurt) is that I have quite a bit of respect for Stan Kyles (the Sounds pitching coach). I know there is a lot of love for Mike Maddux, but I think at this point if Bush is healthy a long-term decision needs to be made. I think Kyle could really help Bush out and get him playing at a high level against lower competition which should boost Bush's confidence. Kyle has had some pretty good current Brewers go through his system including Yovani Gallardo, Carlos Villanueva, and Manny Parra. This is just a thought if the Brewers want to keep him or try to keep him past this year.
  18. Weeks is still young give him time. It really sucks when people place such high expectations on young players that are almost impossible to reach right away. I don't think a lot of people here are putting expectations on him that are impossible to reach. Improving defense, limiting strikeouts, and playing consistent are part of developing. Rickie hasn't done any of these over time. Let's remember that this isn't Rickie's rookie year. I think some people treat it that way because of injuries, but this is his fifth season in the bigs. Nobody here is saying Rickie is a bust because he hasn't hit 40+ home runs. I'd be completely fine with 20 - 25 home runs, improved defense, and consistent at bats. I don't think that's asking much from a player that has shown he can do all of those things at times.
  19. Busting him inside because he couldn't turn on the ball was a very good reason he was struggling with OBP when he was injured. With a wrist injury your BA is gonna go down. I'll give you his approach was pretty screwed up in June and July last year. A healthy wrist wouldn't have made a huge difference. I guess I can see that to a certain degree, but I don't think the injury should really change his approach. I still think some of Rickie's issues with the bat and on the field are mental which makes it more frustrating. I do believe he has all the natural skills, but it really is time for him to put it together sooner rather than later.
  20. Weeks has shown that he can get on base when he's healthy. I guess I don't quite understand this logic. How is getting walks that more difficult with a banged up wrist? The reason he succeeded in August and September is because is approach changed. His wrist may have healed during that time also, but I find it hard to believe it was holding him back that bad last year. If that was the case, maybe he should've been on the DL.
  21. I want to start this off by saying I'm not saying this will happen or should happen and I know Bush has an option left, but he would still have to clear waivers. This is assuming that he does clear waivers and as we know a roster move will need to be made when Yo is back. I know a lot of people want to move Bush into the long relief role and DFA McClung. I'm not against this by any means, but looking beyond this year it appears that Bush might be the odd pitcher out. I know Sheets might be gone next year and we'd need another starting pitcher, but I think going from Sheets to Bush is a drastic drop off in the rotation and I don't think that would be a good idea. My main point in trying to get Bush down is that hopefully he will "figure it out". I know there are still some who are high on Bush or hope he can be a #3 or #4, but I really don't see that happening for him anymore and a change of scenery might help that out. I think in AAA he could hopefully come down and make some very solid starts and get some confidence back. If he were claimed by a team, I'd wish him the best and hopefully that new scenery would help him out. I know this would leave the Brewers short-handed in the case of an injury and that's a very valid point. I just don't know if Bush would spend most of the year in the bullpen that he would have much value as a starter next year.
  22. The home opener for the Sounds was canceled due to rain -- it stopped raining after 1:30, but down here any amount of rain leads to traffic jams and sports being called off. Anyways, I'm going to the double header today (they just pushed back the opener a day) and was wondering if there are any big-time prospects on the Iowa Cubs I should be watching for. I just want to clarify I'm by no means a Cubs fan, but I find it interesting to know who are the up and coming players for the opposing team. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
  23. Seriosuly, in no sense is Weeks a bust. Krynzel, ok, Weeks no. Not aure how an average start at age 24 is a bust, but hey he doesn't play like an All Star , he must suck. Weeks is 25 and turns 26 later this season. I personally don't think he's a bust. I just don't believe he's one of the core Brewers who need to be kept unless he proves otherwise. It is still early and I hope offensively he turns it around. I think if he can do that the possible long-term solution is as follows (just a guess on my part): --Brewers trade Fielder/let him walk --OF consists of Weeks, Braun, and Hart --LaPorta moves to 1B --JJ or Escobar at 2B Again, I'm sure we won't be able to keep all of these guys, but if Weeks doesn't improve and play consistent throughout the next few seasons he'll become a lot easier to afford.
  24. Monty is 'on-base' with this one. If Rickie keeps a +.400 OBP we can live with that. Hard part is that Milwaukee used such a high pick on him. Any other team would 'settle' with that production, but the 'crew has a vested interest for more. Not a lot of options really available for this year. The problem is Weeks was a first round pick. I also don't understand that + .400 OBP. Because he was "healthy" and did this for two months last year he'll always be close to that? I personally don't think a wrist injury changes a players ability to swing or not swing at pitches and get on base with walks. I think Rickie does get a pretty big pass around here and hopefully it's because he finally breaks out in 2008. I think the Brewers need to have a solid plan for a replacement for Weeks in the coming years. Weeks isn't 22 and like it's been pointed out he turns 26 this year. Watching the Mets' broadcast last night they even were pointing out how frustrated the Brewers must be with Weeks and his lack of production. Don't get me wrong I really want to see this guy succeed, but when I think of the core Milwaukee players and the guys I want in town Weeks is no longer on that list. I hope he proves me wrong with the bat -- I've given up hopes on his defense improving. x
  25. I'm talking about at the Sounds stadium. It replaced Sluggers this season. That makes sense. I didn't think they had bbq last year. I've only ate at Sluggers once and got some chicken tenders that weren't anything special, but they weren't awful either.
