  1. Final: Sarasota (Reds) 6, Brevard County 4 As Mass has noted numerous times this season (and every season), media coverage of the FSL is abysmal at best. Neither team here has regular site summaries, and the only newspaper coverage of the Sarasota Reds I could find was this article talking about the horrendous attendance and the franchise being relocated. Maybe Mass will find something on the AM side. Brevard County Box Unearned Runs were the story tonight in BC. Everyone's favorite soft tossing RHP Anundsen couldn't overcome an Errecart error to first batter of the game en route to giving up a 5 spot in the first. He settled in nicely after that, he didn't allow a hit for the rest of the game while racking up 6Ks in 7IP. Rapoza pitched 2 innings of relief, giving up an Unearned Run with 1BB and 2K. Schafer with 2 more hits, Errecart with 2 hits including a double. Schafer has 7 multiple hit games out his last 10. Brevard County Game Log The deciding 1st Inning... Sarasota Top 1st Dave Sappelt reaches on fielding error by first baseman Chris Errecart. Justin Reed singles on a ground ball to right fielder Steffan Wilson. Dave Sappelt to 3rd. Denis Phipps pops out to second baseman Eric Farris. Neftali Soto singles on a fly ball to right fielder Steffan Wilson. Dave Sappelt scores. Justin Reed to 2nd. Devin Mesoraco doubles (21) on a line drive to center fielder Logan Schafer. Justin Reed scores. Neftali Soto scores. Kyle Day singles on a ground ball to first baseman Chris Errecart. Devin Mesoraco to 3rd. Shane Carlson hit by pitch. Kyle Day to 2nd. Jose Gualdron strikes out swinging. Kevyn Feiner singles on a line drive to right fielder Steffan Wilson. Devin Mesoraco scores. Kyle Day scores. Shane Carlson to 3rd. Dave Sappelt strikes out swinging.
  2. Final: Montgomery (Rays) 2, Huntsville 1 Huntsville Offense Handcuffed Again By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars Brandon Chaves singled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Montgomery to a 2-1 walk-off win over Huntsville Thursday night in the fourth of a five-game set at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits have won three in a row to raise their record to 15-19 in the second half and 48-56 overall, while the Stars slipped to 14-20 in the second half and 52-51 overall. Robert Hinton retired the first two hitters in the home ninth before Matt Spring reached on an infield single and was replaced by pinch-runner Pedro Powell, who swiped second base on a very close play. Chaves then laced the next pitch into right field for a base hit to chase home Powell with the winning run to hand the Stars their seventh walk-off loss of the season. Hinton, who had thrown scoreless relief in the seventh and eighth innings, dropped to 0-5, while Matthew Gorgen worked a shutout ninth inning to earn his first double-A win. Drew Anderson walked with two outs in the first inning, stole second base and scored on a two-out single by Jonathan Lucroy, as the Stars scored first for the first time in the series. Huntsville has been held to two runs over the last three games in 23 innings. Montgomery tied the game in the home fifth when Chaves walked to begin the inning, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild offering from starter Mark Holliman one-out later with Fernando Cortez at the plate. Holliman had worked out of a second inning jam with runners at first and second base and one out and had fanned Spring with runners at the corners and two out to end the fourth inning to keep the Biscuits off the board. Biscuits' starter Rayner Oliveros lasted a season-best six innings, giving up four hits, walking two and fanning two. He left with a no-decision in his fourth start of the year and was followed by Neal Frontz, who retired all six batters he faced. The Biscuits' trio of hurlers retired the last 11 Huntsville hitters. Holliman also went six innings, allowing four hits, while walking three and fanning five in a no-decision. The series wraps up Friday night with left-hander David Welch taking the hill for the Stars against Biscuits' left-hander Brandon Mann. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 pm central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com Huntsville Box Score Hinton who started off the season on fire has struggled a bit lately, a 6.93 ERA over his last 10. Holliman with one of his better outings, he walks too many and strikes out too few but he's hanging in there. Stars hitters manage only 4 hits, nothing for XBH. Lucroy with his 6th error, Cain has his mini 4 game hit streak snapped. Green slumping hard, get back on track on young man. Huntsville Game Log
  3. Final: New Orleans (Marlins) 7, Nashville 4 Zephyrs Defeat Sounds In Rain-Shortened Game NASHVILLE - The New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Nashville Sounds, 7-4, in a rain-shortened contest on Thursday evening at historic Greer Stadium. Almost the entire contest was played in rainy conditions, culminating in a stoppage of play with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. New Orleans first baseman John Lindsey went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs on the evening. The visitors jumped out to a quick lead against Sounds starter Chase Wright, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Alejandro De Aza and Manny Mayorson opened the contest with consecutive singles before both scored on Cameron Maybin's triple to right-center. Maybin later came plateward on a Jai Miller sacrifice fly. The Sounds got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the first when Mat Gamel and Brendan Katin drove in Jason Bourgeois (3-for-5) and Hernan Iribarren with RBI groundouts, making it a 3-2 contest. Wright helped his own cause in the second by delivering a two-out RBI single to center to bring home Johnny Raburn and square the score at 3-3. The Zephyrs pulled back in front, 4-3, in the top of the third when De Aza scored on Lindsey's two-out RBI single to left. Lindsey added to the visitors' lead in the top of the fifth with a two-out, two-run homer to dead center off Wright, the first baseman's team-leading 17th longball of the year. New Orleans tacked on another run in the seventh against Wright as Lindsey recorded his third run-scoring hit of the night, an RBI single to plate De Aza. Sounds cleanup hitter Brendan Katin drew a bases-loaded walk from New Orleans reliever Willie Collazo in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the score to its final 7-4 standing. Zephyrs starter Ryan Tucker (1-2) earned his first victory of the year with a quality start, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings of work. Chris Mobley earned his third save of the year by working a scoreless bottom of the eighth for New Orleans. Wright (6-6) took his first loss since May 29 for Nashville after surrendering seven runs on 10 hits in seven frames of action. The teams will conclude the four-game set with a 7 p.m. finale on Friday evening. Right-hander Mike Burns (7-2, 2.55) will man the bump for the Sounds to face New Orleans southpaw John Koronka (4-7, 4.50). Nashville Box Score Wright just didn't have it going on tonight, his ERA no longer under 4.00, but his peripheral numbers did not support the low ERA to begin with. Axford with an excellent 1.2 IP, 1H 0R 0BB 3K. Bourgeois, Iribarren, Raburn, Wright, and Parejo all with 2 hits a piece, no XBH for the Sounds in this one. Gamel with a throwing error (11) on a Cameron Maybin single, probably a ball he should have eaten and he's only 4 for 31 since returning from MLB. Nashville Game Log
  4. Brett interview Montgomery Pitching Coach Neil Allen, they discuss closing in detail and the change in culture throughout the entire Rays organization. The quality isn't the greatest so some parts of the interview are difficult to understand, especially the part with the train whistle.
  5. It would appear that Huntsville is going to be delayed or postponed, the audio is not up running yet.
  6. Once again because he's no longer stretched out enough to pitch a full MLB season as he didn't have the opportunity to pitch last season. He had just gotten to the point where he could be expected to pitch 200 innings, only to have a setback that didn't allow him to hardly pitch at all. Furthermore since you're hung up on pitch count you're missing the greater issue. Fatigue isn't just based on a per game pitch count, the more high stress innings a pitcher has, the more quickly they tire during the game. Yo has had a ton of high stress innings this season which is why he has so many starts under 7 innings, and he's been pushed about as far as he can go every single time out. There are 3 levels of fatigue here, by inning, by game, and by season, this is why the Brewer minor league pitchers have a strict per inning pitch count... if they go past a certain number of pitches in an inning, they are done for the day. You obviously don't understand the concept if you think I've cherry picked abused pitchers to make my point.
  7. I still say Bah and Bah to those 2 moves. Relievers don't really help us solve our main organizational issue, a lack of top of the rotation pitching beyond Gallardo and Parra.
  8. Final: Great Falls (White Sox) 5, Helena 4 Errors Cause Brewers Loss By CURT SYNNESS - Independent Record - 07/30/09 The Helena Brewers were shaded 5-4 by the Great Falls Voyagers Wednesday at Kindrick Legion Field, as the Brewers were undone by too many errors. The two teams both put up eight hits on the board, but the critical difference was under the "E" category, with Helena leading in errors, 4-2. "How many of those five runs were unearned?" asked hometeam manager Rene Gonzales afterwards. The answer: three. "There you go. We gave the game away, and we've been doing that way too often lately. We've got to start making them earn it," the Brewers' skipper said. Adrian Rosario started on the hill for Helena and went six complete innings, allowing eight hits and all five runs, although only two were earned. Kristian Bueno and Ben Jeffers combined to pitch the last three hitless innings in relief. Jeffers fanned two of the three men he faced in the ninth. The Brewers took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, provided by Cameron Garfield, Edgar Trejo and Joseph Paciorek. The Electric City crew scored one in the top of the third, but the locals answered right back in their half of the stanza on a single by Josh Prince, Mike Brownstein's double and a sacrifice fly by Scott Krieger. Great Falls then scored two in the fourth, and one each in the fifth and sixth frames, for the deciding margin. The hosts rallied for a run in the eighth, on Brownstein's walk and a steal of second, Krieger reaching on a groundball error, and Chris Ellington's sacrifice fly to center field. Pacing the Voyagers attack on the evening were Kevin Dubler (2-for-3, two doubles), Jesus Avilla (2-4, double) and Johnny Celis (2-4). The visitor's Ryan Hamme, who came in as a pinch runner for Kyle Colligan in the sixth, scored on one of Dubler's two-baggers. Hamme is a college teammate of former Helena Senators legion standout Quinn LeSage. LeSage and Hamme both played for North Carolina's Campbell University Camels a few years back. Justin Collop started for the Voyagers and went five innings for the win. He was relieved by Brandon Kloess, who pitched the rest of the way to earn the save. The Capital City group was led offensively by Garfield and Cutter Dykstra, with two hits apiece. Great Falls improves to 19-15, sharing the Pioneer League's Northern Division lead with Missoula. Helena is two games back in third place, at 17-17. The two clubs meet again tonight at Kindrick, beginning at 7:05. Curt Synness: 449-2150 or curt52s@bresnan. Helena Box Score The H-Crew really let this one slip a away which hurts the team's 1st half playoff chase as costly errors sunk the Brewers in this game, Paciorek's error on what sounded like a routine play, Garfield's error on a Strike Out to the next batter both led to unearned runs. Later in the game Trejo isn't able to find the bag with his foot for an error, that runner eventually came around to score as well. As I noted above Rosario needs to throw something other than a get me over fastball as the first pitch, when he got hit, that's mostly what they hit. Have I mentioned Brownstein is the man? He plays solid D EVERYWHERE, is a heady player, is productive at the plate and on the basepaths. Mike was 1 for 3 with a 2B and a SB Garfield is back smacking the ball around after that homer got him back on track yesterday, he went 2 for 4 today with a SB, Dykstra also went 2 for 4 with a SB. Helena Game Log About what you would expect, they missed a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 8th. Helena Bottom 8th Mike Brownstein walks. With Scott Krieger batting, Mike Brownstein steals (13) 2nd base. Scott Krieger reaches on fielding error by shortstop Jeffrey Tezak. Mike Brownstein to 3rd. Chris Ellington out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jordan Cheatham. Mike Brownstein scores. Cameron Garfield singles on a line drive to center fielder Jordan Cheatham. Scott Krieger to 2nd. Cutter Dykstra strikes out swinging. Edgar Trejo grounds out, pitcher Brandon Kloess to first baseman Todd Gossage.
  9. Final: AZL Cublets 7, AZL Brewers 4 AZL Brewers Box ScoreI hate losing to the lame Cubs at any level. George goes 3 for 3 with a BB, Walla 2 for 5 but 3 Ks, Roberts 2 for 4, McKelvie 3 for 4 with a double. Romero gives up a HR but pitches well otherwise, Guerrero only has 2 scoreless appearances all year and struggled here. DeLaugher makes his first appearance in the organization, goes 2/3 an IP before giving way to Costello who does his usual thing. Costello doesn't belong in AZ, he's been dominant.with 0 BBs and 19 Ks. Some year in my life time the Brewers will actually field a winning AZL team.AZL Brewers Game Log The Brewer 7th could have been a bigger inning with Walla get gunned at 3rd with less than 2 outs. DeLaugher had an interesting 8th before Costello bailed him out. AZL Brewers Bottom 7th Pitcher Change: Melvin Vasquez replaces Gian Guzman. Carlos George singles on a ground ball to third baseman Jordan Petraitis. Maxwell Walla singles on a ground ball to center fielder Francisco Guzman. Carlos George to 3rd. 10. Final Game 2: Montgomery (Rays) 10, Huntsville 0 Huntsville Held to One Run in 14 Innings Matt Spring homered and knocked in a run with a base hit in a seven-run second inning that propelled Montgomery to a 10-0 win in the nightcap and a doubleheader sweep of Huntsville Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits stopped a franchise-record seven-game losing streak with a 5-1 win in the opener and improved to 14-19 in the second half and 47-56 overall, while the Stars were swept in a twin bill for the second time this season to fall to 14-19 in the second half and 52-50 overall. Brandon Kintzler made his double-A debut on the mound for Huntsville in game two and committed one of three errors in the first inning that allowed the Biscuits to plate three runs with only one hit and a walk. Spring led off the home second with a home run off his former college teammate to make it 4-0 before Desmond Jennings doubled in a run to push the lead to five. Kintzler was taken out after a one-out walk to Rashad Eldridge and charged with seven runs, five earned, on four hits and a pair of walks. Josh Wahpehpah took over and yielded run-scoring hits to Chris Nowak, Matt Fields, Cody Strait and Spring that finished off the Biscuits highest-scoring inning of the season. Anuery Rodriguez benefited from the early offense and went the distance, tossing seven scoreless frames to grab his sixth win of the season. He allowed four singles and did not allow a runner to advance past second base, while walking two and recording one strikeout, as the Biscuits' finished off their third doubleheader sweep of the season. He has now gone 19 2/3 innings in his last three starts without yielding an earned run. In the opener, Stars' starter Donovan Hand retired the first five batters he faced before Fields crushed a solo home run to left field that was followed by an opposite field home run to right field by Strait in his first at-bat since joining the Biscuits. Drew Anderson singled to lead off the fourth inning, ending a string of seven in a row retired by starter Heath Rollins but was cut down trying to score on a Lorenzo Cain double for the final out of the inning. Shane Justis and Anderson singled to open the sixth inning and chase Rollins from the game, after he had allowed seven hits and fanned three. Paul Phillips took over and set down the first two hitters he faced before Cain singled to drive in Justis to cut the Biscuits lead to 2-1. Kevin Melillo walked to load the bases before JR Hopf fanned to end the threat. Rollins was charged with one run and grabbed the win to even his record at 9-9, as he won for just the second time in 11 starts at home. Montgomery tacked on three runs in the sixth inning against Hand and Wes Littleton on run-scoring hits by Nowak and Fields and a Strait sacrifice fly. Hand was lifted after 5 1/3 innings and charged with three runs on five hits. He walked one, struck out a pair and suffered the loss to fall to 8-4. Phillips then worked a scoreless seventh inning, striking out the side in the process, to nail down his fifth save in as many tries. The series continues Thursday night with right-hander Mark Holliman taking the hill for the Stars against Biscuits' right-hander Rayner Oliveros. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 pm central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Hunstville Game 2 Box Score Not the debut Mass was hoping for from Kintzler, a pretty forgettable affair all the way around. Cain the only bright spot offensively going 2 for 3. Green is now hitting .179 over his last 10 and Lucroy was 1 for 2 with a HBP, hitting .233 over his last 10 (similar to his season). Hunstville Game 2 Game Log The Stars only advanced a runner to 2nd base twice in the game.
  11. Final: Fort Myers (Twins) 4, Brevard County 2 Miracle Site Summary: July 29, 2009 - FORT MYERS -- Santos Arias dominated Brevard County in seven innings as Deibinson Romero added a two-run blast, lifting the Fort Myers Miracle to a 4-2 victory at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday. The Miracle built a 2-0 lead in the fifth and sixth with RBI singles from Rene Leveret and Chris Parmelee. In the bottom of the seventh, Romero added what would turn out to be very valuable insurance with his fourth homer of the year to left field with a runner aboard. Santos Arias (5-1) kept the Manatees scoreless with seven innings of five-hit ball. He walked one and struck out three, while Brevard's Michael Bowman (3-4) took the loss. Bowman gave up two earned runs on five hits in five innings with five walks and three strikeouts. Miracle batters drew a staggering eleven walks in the game, with just four strikeouts. After eight innings, the score was 4-0, Miracle. As excellent as Arias was, things got dicey in the ninth. Blair Erickson, who had been battling recent control problems, retired the first batter in the ninth but walked the next two. He induced a flyout to right for the second out, but an infield single loaded the bases and prompted manager Jeff Smith to call upon Loek van Mil. Van Mil worked to a full count against catcher Anderson de la Rosa. At one point he lit up the radar gun with a 99 mph fastball, but another fastball on the outside corner of the plate was lined to right to bring in a pair of runs and make the score 4-2. The 7'1 Dutch-born pitcher settled down and induced a popout from Logan Schafer in foul ground near third to record his third save. Fort Myers and Brevard County, the two first half division champions, split both series at the two parks, two games each. The season series will stay knotted at 4-4 with Wednesday's result. Fort Myers will now travel to Clearwater for a four-game series against the Threshers starting on Thursday night at Bright House Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Brevard County Box Score The BC pitchers just didn't have it tonight, a combined 11 BBs against only 4 Ks on the evening. De La Rosa was the only batter with a multiple hit game, no batter had an XBH. Schafer with a hit in his first AB, he's hitting .415 over his last 10. BC didn't threaten till the 5th and didn't push any runs across until the 9th. Brevard County Game Log Mini rallies in the 5th and 7th fall short, as does the comeback bid in the 9th. Brevard County Top 5th Lee Haydel lines out to second baseman Chris Cates. Zelous Wheeler grounds out, second baseman Chris Cates to first baseman Chris Parmelee. Brent Brewer walks. Anderson De La Rosa singles on a line drive to left fielder Mark Dolenc. Brent Brewer to 3rd. Anderson De La Rosa to 2nd on the throw. Logan Schafer flies out to right fielder Evan Bigley. Logan Schafer pops out to third baseman Deibinson Romero in foul territory.
  12. Final: DSL Rays 10, DSL O's/Brewers 8 DSL O's/Brewers Box Score Javier goes 0-4, Arias goes 2-5 with a 2B and HR. I'm actually regretting not following this squad more closely, I fell into the habit of just reading Mass' summaries every day. It takes me way too long to figure out the names I'm not familiar with. Surprisingly with so many runs the combined squad only used 2 pitchers. DSL O's/Brewers Game Log A big top of the 7th for the combined squad. DSL O's/Brewers Top 7th Pitcher Change: Ney Dominguez replaces Jose Torres. Jhonatan Javier walks. Hitaniel Arias homers (1) on a fly ball to right field. Jhonatan Javier scores. Edwin Wilson walks. Andres Martinez walks. Edwin Wilson to 2nd. Wilder Aguirre singles on a line drive to right fielder Ludson Isenia. Edwin Wilson to 3rd. Andres Martinez to 2nd. Gregory Lorenzo walks. With Octavio Wilson batting, Wilder Aguirre steals (2) home. Cristian Araujo steals (2) 2nd base. Octavio Wilson called out on strikes. Wilmer Portes grounds out, second baseman Federico Eder to first baseman Hector Rodriguez.
  13. Catching up on the DVR with the game but how cool was that HR for McGehee and his family? I'm sure others have posted about it, but what a nice moment.
  14. Final Game 1: Montgomery (Rays) 5, Huntsville 1 Huntsville Box Score: Hand gives up 3 runs including the Back to Back jacks in the 2nd, which proved to be all Montgomery needed. Wes Littleton... no offense intended to his family but he just hasn't had it this season. His 2/3 of an inning was very tough, and not all that dissimilar from his body of work at AAA. Anderson goes 3 for 5, that's hits in 14 of his last 16 games, he on quite the tear (I crossed up my notes, that's actually Logan Schafer of BC) he's hitting .459 over his last 10 going into the night cap. Cain also with 2 hits including a double. Hunstville Game Log Anderson thrown out at Home to end the 4th. Huntsville had a chance to bust open a close game in the 6th... Huntsville Top 6th Shane Justis singles on a ground ball to center fielder Rashad Eldridge. Drew T. Anderson singles on a line drive to left fielder Fernando Cortez. Shane Justis to 2nd. Coaching visit to mound. Pitcher Change: Paul Phillips replaces Heath Rollins. Jonathan Lucroy strikes out swinging. Taylor Green flies out to right fielder Cody Strait. Shane Justis to 3rd. Lorenzo Cain singles on a line drive to left fielder Fernando Cortez. Shane Justis scores. Drew T. Anderson to 2nd. Kevin Melillo walks. Drew T. Anderson to 3rd. Lorenzo Cain to 2nd. J. R. Hopf strikes out swinging.
  15. It's encouraging to see Parra hitting 96 on the FSN gun today, he's letting his fastball go again which is a major improvement.
  16. Rosario just pitched an inning... 5 pitches, 5 first pitch swings, 5 hard hit balls... think he's a little bit too accustomed to the "get me over fastball"? He gave up a run on a double and single.
  17. Ha, sweet play in the Helena 2nd... First Garfield rips an absolute rocket single, then steals 2nd. My boy Trejo comes up clutch lining a single to center with 2 outs, the throw gets away and Trejo pushes all the way up to 3B by making a great slide to avoid the tag. Paciorek then singles in Trejo. Helena up 2-0 after 2 complete.
  18. I'm not sure I'm onboard with sell mode, this team isn't anywhere near as bad as they've played lately. However the collapses with this core are getting old in a hurry... 4 straight years now with a horrific collapse. I wouldn't mind some meaningful changes in the off-season, and of course I'm always on board with trading for pitching. edit. I used to wonder if Yost was the cause, riding em too hard, now I just believe that's who these guys are.
  19. Steve was talking about Rosario's velocity just now during the Helena broadcast and mentioned low mid 90s... reading between the lines I'd guess that means 94 MPH. This is quite the pitching staff we've assembled in Helena.
  20. Did you say that after his first two outings after he came back?If you look I said it the day he was recalled actually.
  21. Bowman is having a very tough time finding the strike zone tonight. I believe he's given up 6 5 BBs already as I'm flipping back and forth between both walk fests. Hand gave up back to back to HRs in the 2nd before I switched over to the BC game.. not exactly a stellar pitching evening thus far for the organization.
  22. He's nothing special back there, in fact I'm not big on him or McCraw. Both players let too many balls get through them... His arm strength seemed pretty average, he didn't wow me at all, and I've seen plenty of attempted steals at the T-Rats games I've attended.. Footwork wise he's inconsistent, but he's not exactly agile to being with, he's got a dumpy frame. I don't see him sticking at C for the Brewers and I'm not sure I like him at 1B either. I've said before I like his bat and approach at the plate, I'm not sure where he fits. He does have a good head for the game, he makes quite a few "heads up" type plays when I'm at the game, he's just not all that physically gifted.
  23. I know what a game score is and I regard as "just for fun." I dont care what his game score was, 5.1 IP, 9K, 1 R = good outing, effective pitching, outing was only short due to high pitches required to get 9Ks. 8IP, 0R = good outing. 5IP, 2ER = 3.60ERA and 1.4 WHIP = pretty good/good outing. How is 5.1 IP an effective outing? What starting pitcher, manager, or pitching coach would agree with you? Well then I say 4.2 IP pitched and anything less than 4 runs is a good outing, so he's been good in every game but 3 all season! He didn't come back the next start at the same level, that's the whole point, when he's pushed over 110 pitches in back to back games he tends to pitch poorly in his subsequent starts. You're simply seeing what you want to see despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
  24. Remind me when Lincecum blew out his knee and only pitched 24 innings in a season? I'm not sure what the best case scenario actually proves and why you keep going to CY winners and Hall of Famers to make your point? Those cases are the overwhelming minority... for every Lincecum there are many more Santana, Marcum, Wood, Prior, Neugebauer, and McGowans. Young promising pitchers who got serverly injured early in their MLB careers... and those are just examples of the pitchers I think you'd know. The minors are littered with the corpses of promising arms that were blown out along the way...
