  1. Are people surprised by this revelation? It's been in print continually since the Sabathia trade, it was known then that Escobar and Gamel were untouchable. I realize things can change over time but until Hardy signs an extension, Escobar isn't going anywhere, and every day that passes makes it less likely Hardy will sign... if the Brewers would even offer a deal to him knowing they have a cost controlled replacement waiting in the wings.
  2. I wasn't real happy that Lawrie needed to be disciplined twice already this season being pulled from games but I haven't said anything up to this point because I understand that he was a very big fish in a very little pond prior to this season. With nothing coming from Mr. Mehring on this it's looking like this may be something discipline related again as it's unusual to have not heard anything in 3 games. I haven't had an opportunity to listen to the T-Rats all week, nor will I tonight, but If in fact this is discipline related we have growing trend that will make me uncomfortable at best. Usually I'm not one to root for a family emergency or injury, but I'd rather it be something like that than Isom having to put his foot down again. edit. MiLB.com still has him listed as active.
  3. It appeared to me that early on Mat was trying too hard to make something happen, he's never K'd this much in the past, I think he just needs to get comfortable and it may take some time for that to happen. Last night he took some awfully defensive swings reminiscent Hardy when he first came up. Sometimes players take a while to adjust, I don't see a reason to send him down when there's not a better alternative readily available. I'd give him another couple of weeks to turn it around and if he's still struggling around the All-Star break, then maybe think about making a move. I'm alright breaking in Gamel this season, especially if our other bats continue to heat up. Heether might be an alternative but he's not a your typical platoon partner nor is he on the 40 man as previously mentioned. They could bring up Iribarren and slide McGehee over to 3B as well.
  4. I don't see how an international draft that excludes Cuba and Japan would be a bid deal.. everyone has to file paperwork to declare for the draft...or you don't get drafted and don't play, it seems pretty equal all the way around. I'm not opposed to a case by exception process for a kid, but to make the system fair for all of the teams, money shouldn't make a difference, and players who haven't proven anything shouldn't be able to command large dollar amounts. To protect the players maybe HS kids taken in the top 30 rounds are guaranteed to have their college education paid for regardless what happens (so they have something to fall back on). If you're a college player and you declare, that should be it though, there should be no "I don't like my slot I'm going to back to school", they can go rot in the Indy league for a year or they can use the the perceived slight as motivation. I have a similar complaint with the NFL draft right now, the guys at the top of the draft are getting paid way too much money without ever having to produce. Ryan Leaf started me on this path, I forget his exact quote but it was something along the lines of, "I got my 10 million, I'm set for life regardless what happens". The signability issue in baseball takes it to a whole different level though.
  5. BC loses, despite his 2 hits Brewer has a throwing error pushing his total to 15 already.
  6. ... and then they give it all back plus 1. Burlington Bottom 7th * Fernando Garcia called out on strikes. * Jarrod Dyson strikes out swinging. * Nick Van Stratten reaches on fielding error by first baseman Corey Kemp. * Eric Hosmer walks. Nick Van Stratten to 2nd. * Nicholas Francis singles on a line drive to right fielder Chris Dennis. Nick Van Stratten scores. Eric Hosmer to 3rd. * David Wood singles on a line drive to right fielder Chris Dennis. Eric Hosmer scores. Nicholas Francis to 3rd. * Sean McCauley singles on a line drive to right fielder Chris Dennis. Nicholas Francis scores. David Wood to 3rd. * Pitcher Change: Brandon Ritchie replaces Cody Scarpetta. * Chase Fontaine doubles (3) on a fly ball to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. David Wood scores. Sean McCauley scores. * Juan Rivera called out on strikes.
  7. A huge 4 run 7th pushes WI in front, every hitter 1-6 in the lineup has a single RBI, hard to be more balanced than that. Dennis with 2B trying to get back over 1.000 OPS. Wisconsin Top 7th * Steven Braun reaches on fielding error by shortstop Juan Rivera. * Sean McCraw out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Manauris Baez to first baseman David Wood. Steven Braun to 2nd. * Juan Sanchez walks. * Michael Marseco singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jarrod Dyson. Steven Braun scores. Juan Sanchez to 3rd on the throw. Michael Marseco to 2nd. * Manauris Baez intentionally walks Corey Kemp. * Pitcher Change: Barry Bowden replaces Manauris Baez. * John Delaney hit by pitch. Juan Sanchez scores. Michael Marseco to 3rd. Corey Kemp to 2nd. * Chris Dennis singles on a ground ball to left fielder Nick Van Stratten. Michael Marseco scores. Corey Kemp to 3rd. John Delaney to 2nd. * Brock Kjeldgaard out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jarrod Dyson. Corey Kemp scores. John Delaney to 3rd. * Jose Duran grounds out, third baseman Chase Fontaine to first baseman David Wood.
  8. That was actually really cool
  9. The BC game just got real ugly, 7-0 going to the top of the 5th. Nieves has a nice outing going so far, WI still tied 1-1 in the 5th.
  10. The compensation round should go by the order of the significance of the FA lost... for example this year the Angels and Brewers should have had the first 2 picks in the comp round. There needs to be an international draft, no more of this silly FA bogus nonsense. All players foreign and domestic must declare for the draft or they are ineligible to be drafted, the same goes for college eligible players, if you declare for the draft you lose your NCAA eligibility. Signability is no longer an issue, I don't see signability going away with slotting, I see slotting causing more players to go unsigned and picks rolling over to the following year. The only way to make signability a non issue is to remove the option of playing college ball anymore. If they don't like their slot they can go to school and play indy ball hoping to improve their status next round. If they go to college let them declare whenever they want, just like with college BB.
  11. Rogers with a tough outing, Brewer continues to hit this month, he started very slow last year as well, he's going to need to get past that at some point. Kemp with 2B scoring Sanchez for WI, Kemp just keeps hitting.
  12. Re:Parra I don't want to go back and debate this anymore on the MLB forum, but I hope he's going to make good and just get back to throwing the ball. I hadn't seen a mid 90s fastball out of him all season, but I did see some 87-88 MPH. Just let it all hang out and get after people, he strikes me as the type of player that puts way too much thought into everything he does as opposed to players who don't really think at all. There's a happy middle ground there... (I suddenly have the Happy Place scene from Happy Gilmore in my head). It's good that he knows the pitcher he was and the pitcher that he should be, it's time to start blowing people away again. LHP that throw in the mid 90s are way too rare a commodity to just arbitrarily give up on, I sincerely hope he finds himself.
  13. I don't recall a pitcher with Aguilar's talent ever repeating a level and getting significantly worse, you gotta wonder if he's healthy or not.
  14. That was an intelligent addition to the conversation...
  15. Katin's problem is he's exactly what Milwaukee already has too much of hitter wise, and he's RH. There has to be an organization out there that would be a better fit for him than Milwaukee. I hope he gets a shot at some point for someone, he's earned his chance.
  16. Actually that's exactly how bf.net looks for me behind the firewall at work, it's not a scripting issue. I bring my laptop home and it works great, when the problem initially started to happen to me about 2 months ago I thought it was because we're still using IE 6.0 on our work machines but I'm almost positive this it's a firewall issue of some sort. I can read certain Yuku boards but not many, I'm unable to get into my profile or read personal message while I'm at work, and adding replies to messages is a pain in the rear as I have to use HTML coding from work. However, when I get home IE (even the old version of 6.0) works great. I haven't tried FF or Safari on the work laptop as both browsers are on our restricted software list... I'd imagine that's so the corporation is only coding for a single browser, I wish they'd let us upgrade to to 7 or 8 though.
  17. Well it's easy to go to the worst case... Who cares about Bedard if he gets hurt again? Just because no deals have been I don't think it's exactly fair to say that no deals could have been made, and you really didn't answer my question, we aren't talking about a single year here. We're talking about last year, this year, next year, and maybe the year beyond. Are they to go after a rental every single season? Until the hole is closed, it continues to remain an issue.
  18. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if all of the draft picks in the first 5 rounds signed this week and were ready for the start of rookie ball.
  19. Nashville hitless through 5 (of course I had to)
  20. I don't like Yo coming out for the 5th, I know the bullpen is gassed, but can we really continue push our best young pitcher (who didn't hardly pitch in 2008) over 100 pitches every outing?
  21. X.. I'm not sure how you can claim we've improved the system. I'm not ignoring Brantley's struggles at AAA, I'm just not sure how relevant that is to the hypothetical discussion we're having or I would have pointed it and then bagged on Dykstra as well. Inman. Thatcher, Brantley, and LaPorta all made it as far as AAA and Garrison would have opened the year in AAA if not for the injury... Frederickson could blow out his arm tomorrow and be done, Dykstra, Walla, and Davis could Josh Murray us... like I said, I assumed the best case scenario fpr discussion purposes... that both sets of prospects continue to develop, it removes all of the "what if" scenarios that are impossible to debate. I will agree that we have higher upside in the system between the picks, but upside doesn't equal production, not yet. I'm not even attempting to debate the prospect issue, it was a side issue, I'm debating the best way to fill a hole on the Major League Roster for a team like Milwaukee. We're a year away in an absolute perfect world from a SP with top of the rotation talent being MLB ready and capable of 180 innings, and I'd rather not push Arnett, Jeffress, or Braddock that hard to get there, even if the organization thinks their arm could handle the workload. So realistically we're more like 2 or 3 years away, but then we'll have a windfall of arms... what's the best way to bridge that gap? 3 rental players? 3 Loopers? Or 1 acquisition for a SP with some longevity to his service in Milwaukee? What's the best way to improve the talent level in the rotation while we wait on the pile of arms at A+ and A ball? Best case scenario we get 60 percent of a season out of rental so we'd need to figure 1.2 seasons of a league average or worse pitcher in the rotation if we go the rental player route, which would mean starting each season with Yo and 4 starters of 3/4/5 quality at best.
  22. I think you're missing the point about the "hole".... the hole remains on the big league club until a prospect gets there to fill it. Whom do we have that's going to do that in the immediate future? Cody? Bulter? Neither is a top of the rotation kind of guy at this point. We acquired Sabathia to fill a hole, once the season was the hole still existed, the hole still exists in the rotation today as Parra's struggles continue. Yo has hit the wall here a little bit lately as well... trying to plug holes 1 year at a time just doesn't work very because the team never gets over the top at that position. If we're talking about C... well who cares as long as the player is tolerable... if we're talking 2 of the top 3 spots in the rotation that's a different matter entirely. As far as the prospects go, I assumed the best case scenario for both sets of prospects, it gets way too murky to discuss any other way. Quality wise I think we're doing okay, I like Frederickson's upside more than Inman... Dykstra is kind of a meh pick in my opinion but he's toolsy, Garrison will miss the season due to injury and Thatcher continues to be up and down for SD. Davis/Walla hopefully turn out to comparable to LaPorta/Brantley, I wish Davis would sign and start out with Helena right away.
  23. Adams continues to hurt himself, and between him and McCraw things are not going well on bases, 2SBs, an E on Adams, and a WP. Burlington Bottom 1st * Patrick Norris walks. * With Nick Van Stratten batting, throwing error by Cody Adams on the pickoff attempt, Patrick Norris to 3rd. * Nick Van Stratten called out on strikes. * Eric Hosmer grounds out, shortstop Michael Marseco to first baseman Brock Kjeldgaard. Patrick Norris scores. * Nicholas Francis singles on a ground ball to center fielder Juan Sanchez. * With David Wood batting, Nicholas Francis steals (10) 2nd base. * David Wood grounds out, second baseman Steven Braun to first baseman Brock Kjeldgaard. Burlington Bottom 2nd * Jose Bonilla doubles (8) on a ground ball to right fielder Michael Vass. * With Antonio Jimenez batting, wild pitch by Cody Adams, Jose Bonilla to 3rd. * Antonio Jimenez grounds out, shortstop Michael Marseco to first baseman Brock Kjeldgaard. Jose Bonilla scores. * Juan Rivera grounds out, third baseman Jose Duran to first baseman Brock Kjeldgaard. * Fernando Garcia singles on a ground ball to left fielder Chris Dennis. * With Patrick Norris batting, Fernando Garcia steals (15) 2nd base. * Patrick Norris strikes out swinging.
  24. Braun is an offensive and defensive upgrade! It is odd though that he's not in the lineup. edit. Of course I mention Rivas and he promptly walks 2 hitters and gives up 2 runs, bah.
