  1. How can a team with 4 top prospects be last in the Southern League in Batting Average. I'm not even counting Belcher. I know they are doing well record-wise but some of you have to be a little bit disappointed in the long hitting droughts that this group is putting together. I keep waiting for them to erupt but they continue to get low hit totals on a regular basis.
  2. *Bill Schroeder said that Milton Bradley is a journeyman..Hmm *Most likely tomorrow Corey Hart will be sent down and Brady Clark will be in RF..I don't like that *Wise...I don't think so. I mean these are major league hitters and he throws two average pitches... *I'm not sure having two LH hitters in a row is a good idea against a LH pitcher... *Bill Hall should be the SS of this team and it should be absolutely obvious to everyone..Counsell is not an everyday player..nice player...just not every freakin' day.. *Brainerd's wife was better looking than I would have thought...maybe she should handle the game *Santos has had a nice little run, but we won't be seeing him in the rotation in July...command is too poor in and out of the strike zone *Is it me, or is Podsednik suddenly trying to pull almost everything instead of dumping the ball into LF like last year? *I like the 'O' chant when Overbay bats *Tomorrow is another LH pitcher...hello Brady!!
  3. mikerollins Talk about selectivity in picking out your statistics. Why didn't you point out that Counsell's OBP is only .330, which isn't exactly sizzling. Counsell is currently slugging at .294 while Hall is at .468. Hall has had absolutely no consistent playing time which does tend to make one anxious at the plate and you would also not recognize pitches well with limited time. You also pointed out the career splits on errors but did not include the number of games those errors were in. C'mon, Counsell is a nice little player but Hall deserves more of a chance as he could contribute more to our future. Oh by the way, Hall has almost double the RBI in almost half as many at bats.
  4. Why is a Rule 5 guy in a tie game when you have Burba who has been pitching fantastic ball and can give you 4 innings or more? I would agree we keep Bennett but he needs either pick up a couple mph on the fastball or he needs to learn to cut it. No way an 88 mph heater that is straight is going to make it in the majors. I don't know where all the reports of him throwing 90-92 came from, as he clearly is not throwing that hard right now.
  5. Technically, I believe the official scorer could have awarded the victory to a much more effective David Nolasco, but hey, it's a win... Could the scored actually have given Nolasco the win? It was my understanding that the official scorer only has discretion when a starter does not go 5 innings and the winning team has not surrendered the lead. In this game the lead was surrendered and High Desert took the lead again before Nolasco was in the game. Just looking for clarification on this.
  6. I agree Kinney needs to be removed from rotation but no way you give up on his arm. He throws a 92 mph sinker and has a good slider and curve when they are located well. Kinney's problem continues to be location, both in and out of the strike zone. His mechanics look good so it is a bit of a mystery why he has such a problem with his location. I hope the guy who claims we should trade Kinney is only kidding. What do you hope to get for him? I still like his arm, so I am willing to be cooked on here by defending him. I also like Billy Hall, but I think he presses too much when he doesn't get consistent playing time. He has a quick bat and if he played regularly he would be able to time the breaking stuff better. Fielding is an issue, but again would improve with time. I was particularily miffed by his soft underhand toss to Ginter on an attempted DP ball...he was clearly too far away for that. Helms....he should be benched in favor of Ginter. NO WAY Ginter doesn't play every day on this team. I love his approach. Helms looks like he is swatting at flies at the plate, and he is a stiff at third. Is it me or does Ben Grieve seem to be almost invisible on this team? Corey Hart anyone by June?
  7. gfwisc and clancy... URGENT MEMO AROUND THE LEAGUE.. FROM THE CARDINALS ..."Sure they kicked our ass on the scoreboard but they are weak, we got to hit 3 of their batters and they didn't even respond! So what if they won 3 of 4 from us... hey we are tougher. So, just go ahead and plunk them, even if you end up giving up 11 runs"...I hope that memo makes it to Houston too.
  8. Why is it weak NOT to hit a guy. Seems to me that would be the stronger thing to do...easy to do what everyone expects...some unwritten law? Win the game guys...I guarantee you that is in YOST's mind...and I'm very glad he is managing this team and not you two.
  9. Clancy... What does playing Clemens and the Astros this weekend have anything to do with this game and the Cardinals plunking our hitters? You pitch inside, sometimes you hit a guy. That is reality. What I am saying is that the Cardinals have a big offense and you want to win the game, not give them a baserunner and get them fired up. We play the Cardinals in Milwaukee soon enough and we will eventually lose big to them...give them a plunking then...and I vote for Edmonds as well...cocky SOB
  10. I disagree that Yost should order a plunking...let's play with some class and not stoop to Larussa like play...we are kickin their ass and we need to win the game...not worry about a HBP..it is a long season and there will be a game to do that....when we are LOSING...not winning
  11. That double switch made no sense. If he wanted to do that Clark could have hit, then bring in Grieve and Burba...Burba for Clark and Grieve for Capuano...we wasted Hall and gave up an at bat with Clark...who was having a decent day.
  12. Double switch? While batting? I don't think so.
  13. Did Brady get hurt? Why would you PH for one of our best fielders who has 2 HR in the game?
  14. Most would consider Podsednik very disciplined because he is patient at the plate and is not afraid to go deep in the count and take many pitches. I don't like when people talk about "knowing" the strike zone. I don't even know what that means but the reality is that you either "recognize" the pitch and location early or you don't. Guys who have slow bat speed and poor pitch recognition are currently at AAA or below. I don't think Podsednik really sees the pitch that well, but he has learned over the years that the more pitches he takes the more strikes he will get. There is a difference. Gwynn, Bonds, Brett...a few examples had great pitch recognition and quick bats. Pod has made up for a lack of both with just good old patience. So disciplined? I would say yes, absolutely. Ability to recognize pitch early? No. Ability to adjust and learn? Yes. BTW, he took a called 3rd tonight on a tough curveball.
  15. For goodness sake shut him down. Martinez has never thrown more than 122 innings in a season prior to this year. He has now started 28 games and thrown nearly 170 innings. He obviously was nervous tonight and didn't have his curve or location(bad combo), but even with his best stuff do we really want him facing Houston, SF, and St. Louis in a pennant race?
  16. I'm not one of the typical Sutton bashers, but as a former pitcher he should know better than making the following types of statements.."Wayne Franklin will tell you that his #1 goal is to keep the team in the game". Now, if Mr. Sutton has actually talked to Wayne about this then I can forgive and forget. But, if he has not talked to him then he shouldn't say it. If, like so many announcers, he is just throwing out a typical statement with regard to all pitchers, he is a complete idiot. How exactly does a pitcher keep his team in the game. Does he play the count depending on the score? If we are behind does he bear down a little harder? If we are ahead does he let up a little to pace himself. Hogwash. A pitcher's goal is to get outs and limit the other team to as few runs as possible. It does NO GOOD to go into a game with a goal of "keeping my team in the game". C'mon Sutton show a little depth and understanding as a former player and stop with the cliches.
  17. oh my god! Is there any chance we can get a discount for airfare on double occupancy....goodbye Luis V.
  18. U. Payne on mlb.com brewers site noted that he wants Weeks playing soon...and he mentioned Beloit...which means it looks like Weeks will be skipping Helena once he signs.
  19. Melvin also said last night on pre-game that he was heading to Helena, despite previous info that he was heading to Beloit. Can't wait for short season to begin.
