  1. So now we are going to blame Prince, for not being taller? This is ridiculous. I can't believe all the hate for Betancourt on this site. He is clearly not on par with the great JJ Hardy or Alcides Escobar, but so many on this site jump on every single one of his mistakes. He is what he is, a slow fielder with Hardyesque range, and an extremely undisciplined hitter. We have NO replacement anywhere in sight, so can we move along. I blame Macha.
  2. Why would Baltimore trade a young stud in Jones for a one year guy that won't help them win anything? I'm all for it but need to be convinced Baltimore would
  3. So Melvin turned down Beachy for Cain? Unbelievable and a sign that Melvin does not get it. Melvin would prefer you fail at the major league level before trading for you. Cain is just a guy, and Beachy will be a solid starter for years to come. This man has no vision.
  4. The Rosenthal(ugh) tweet states that we are not inclined to deal Hoffman. How could we not be inclined to trade a guy that only pitches if we have a .0003 chance of winning the game or if we have managed to score 15 runs. I completely understand keeping Hart, Fielder, and even Bush, but not burning up the phones looking to get rid of Counsell, Hoffman, and Edmonds is completely asinine.
  5. What most likely will be done is a trade for Wiggington or Cantu, both of whom have played 2B.
  6. Texas is the best match for us for hard throwing prospects outside of Atlanta, so Doug needs to get creative and get these arms. Holland Perez Scheppers Font Davis for Fielder $$$ Coffey/Stetter mid-level non prospect- Haydel type
  7. The Braves have an embarrassment of riches in pitching at the minor league level. We simply have an embarrassment. Melvin mentioned Peralta, Rivas, Odorizzi, Heckathorn, and Rogers. We need to get two of the Braves pitchers even if we need to throw in some extra pieces. Two of Minor, Beachy, Delgado, Teheran would probably be too much for Hart alone. My preference would be Delgado and Teheran, both of whom were just promoted to AA. If you can flip Prince for Hudson and use a piece of that deal to get Pineda from Seattle, in two years you could have... Gallardo Pineda Hudson Delgado Teheran I know it's not going to happen but I can dream.
  8. Braves trade Glaus to the Angels. We trade Prince, Bushy, Hart, and Coffey to the Braves for Jurrgens, Freeman, Minor, and Teheran. That would be my dream trade. Never happen.
  9. Very Machaesque....Cain gets sent down and THEN we give Hart a day off. I do agree Hart needed a day, but why not when Cain was around. I wonder if Cain actually went to Nashville. I have a feeling he is hanging around in a Pittsburgh hotel room.
  10. Were you a Cub fan in a former life? I love Prince as much as the next guy, but there's no way the Brewers get all of that in return. If he did a 10-year contract extension would probably be in order. Now that was not necessary. Cubs fan, that is just cruel. I don't hold these Sox players in too high regard, to be honest. Don't forget that they get Prince for 2 pennant races. Also, we are giving them other players. You must be a sox fan to believe than anyone other than Beckham has any real value here, and he is obviously not a can't miss either.
  11. No deal without Beckham, because he is a piece that can be moved again and is only thing that makes a Sox deal tolerable. I don't think the Angels are a good match either as they have almost nothing to offer for pitching. Assuming they will not move a current starter due to no depth in minors, you are looking at Reckling and Chatwood as their best pitching prospects, and Reckling was a disaster at AAA and Chatwood has not done well after a recent promotion. That leaves you with a bunch of OF prospects like Trout, Bourjos, and Moore, along with a stopgap of Trumbo possible at 1B. Not a good match, but as others have pointed out Melvin could get creative and get Seattle involved to get Pineda. Jack would love a Trout, Beckham, or maybe even Bourjos.
  12. I'd pass on Torres and try and get Santos instead. Just took a look at the Sox minor league system and it is not very pretty. I think Santos, Hudson, Viciedo and Beckham for Prince and some parts(Counsell, Coffey...) could get this done. Give Jack Z. a call and see if he would take Beckham for Pineda and another arm. None of what the Sox have to offer is really that appealing, but I think getting Beckham is a must whether we want him long term or not.
  13. I'm surprised 'Z' didn't want Evan Frederickson for Lee. He did throw 98 at a workout at Miller Park. They can have Cody Adams and Lintz too! I think he hit on 1 of 4 that year...should have been better.
  14. I respectfully disagree that Bumgarner is enough for Fielder. You are going to trade one of the top power hitters in the game(proven) for a guy that has not won a major league game. He is far, far from proven commodity and you have to get at least two players, if not 3 for Fielder. I would say Sanchez, Bumgarner, Neal and Belt and they can have Bush too.
  15. So disappointed that Inglett appears to have the lead on Heether. I think Heether can play every position that Inglett can, and has more upside that Inglett. I imagine they are thinking Heether won't get to play much and won't do well part-time, whereas Inglett is used to this type of activity. Still hoped Heether would make it.
  16. I never used to like Lopez much as a player but now that I am looking through blue colored glasses I appreciate the ease at which he plays the game and his ability to hit the ball to all fields. He just acts very professionally. He has been an excellent albeit a wasted acquisition.
  17. I've seen Dykstra play, he doesn't belong in any discussions about prospects.
  18. I'm not on board for firing Melvin, but it is interesting with all this flurry of activity the one thing he has not done is the thing that needed to be done most, get us some starting pitching.
  19. I think X had some excellent points, but I think the OPS overall is overrated for the shortstop position and I am curious as to whether or not X thinks Escobar's defense and speed could offset the OPS. Even Jose Reyes only has a career OPS of .772, but he is a pain in the rear and is a real fireplug kind of player. I am not attacking X at all, but I think his argument about waiting is not valid as he will be the starter next year so this is good experience for him. Ozzie was a lousy hitter his first 4 years(and pretty much his whole career), but he was stealing bases like a madman and I think he could pick it pretty good.
  20. X, Can you tell me the OPS of Ozzie Smith for his career without looking it up? Do you think he should be in the Hall of Fame? In using your numbers as you like to do would Ozzie have any value in the majors for his leadership, steals, defensive prowess? I'm just curious about your opinion on this because you are very adament that Escobar will fail to help us. I don't know if he will or won't, but it seems you have the games played already. By the way, Ozzie's career OPS has three 6's in it. You can put them in any order you want.
  21. Being an amateur hack umpire I have for years pondered why the major league umps stand where they do. It seems to me they should be setting up behind the right handed batters box, but for some reason they set up to the right of the left handed batters box. On the replay last night you can clearly see that the umpire was completely blocked, and had no choice but to call him out.
  22. I don't think Dillard or Cody will give us 6 to 7 innings, whereas Correia would. Like I pointed out before, he has been quite good in his last 10 starts(not all at home) and could give our pen some relief which could help in other games. We are still not out of the race and Correia will not cost us a real prospect. I think the comment comparing him to Suppan is not supported by the statistics. Suppan's WHIP is 1.64 and Correia is 1.32. Correia walks 3.2 per 9 and Soup walks 4.2. Correia gives up 9 hits per 9 innings and Soup gives up 11. Soup makes 10 million, Correia will cost us 250K. Correia has had one terrible season, partly due to arm issues. He is worth takind a chance on and could move to the pen if Bush and Soup come back.
  23. Tell us how you really feel Joe! I think you are overreacting a bit. We need someone, anyone, that can give us some innings. In his last 10 starts, Correia has pitched at least 6 innings 7 times. He has 7 quality starts(not my term) in those 10 starts. 6 of those 10 starts were on the road, and he had impressive outings in Texas and Houston. The fact he might eat some innings could help our pen, which in term may help us win some other games. The price I'm sure will be very, very low.
  24. I don't think we should assume that Snell will remain in Seattle. I don't think JZ is done.
  25. It will never happen. It makes sense, but it will never happen. We play enough games against everyone in front of us to make up the ground. We won't do it, but that will be the argument with 3 million fans in the stands.
