  1. This is a clear indication that Melvin is not that high on Capellan. If the guy would throw the gas he was advertised with there would be no way we would trade him. Give us Chris Nelson.
  2. What about Capellan in a deal for Cantu? I know his OBP is terrible, but it would be nice to put him in the 8 hole and let him mash away at mistakes...ala Gorman Thomas. I'm just not that high on Capellan as he has never shown the velocity that he was touted for and his FB is so straight and therefore hittable. When Braun comes up you can use Cantu as spot starter for Fielder or Weeks, or dangle him for something around trade deadline if he is hitting at all.
  3. Ned isn't terrible, but why did Melvin bring back CC? He doesn't even look interested.
  4. I have a hard time believing that we wouldn't be better off with Cirillo and no Counsell. I know Cirillo chose the Twins but Melvin would not give him much comfort with his playing time. Cirillo is head and shoulders above Counsell. I've seen a couple instances where it would've been nice to have kept Rottino over Gwynn as well.
  5. Is Brewer ready for this? I was thinking Helena. Seems he is so raw that this might be a reach.
  6. The second double-switch by Ned was unecessary and therefore he felt obligated to allow Barnwell to bat. He is overmatched at this level, plain and simple.
  7. Athens, You took the words right out of my mouth with regard to Rogers. I think this is going to be a big swing and a miss. I know, I know, he is young. But the problem is that he is both wild and hittable. Colt Griffin redux. Thanks goodness for Yovani.
  8. I was actually hoping for Gross today instead of Brady. Also not sure that Hall is a good choice against a strikeout pitcher like Harang. Good luck DD.
  9. I am shocked that we are putting a microscope to these efforts by Prince. He didn't even play the last two months of the season. Give the guy a break. Now he needs to go back to AAA or we need to keep Overbay because of 13 AB in the AZFL? Prince Fielder will be our 1B next year and he will have days and nights that we will remember that he is only 22 years old. I enjoy coming on here and reading about each game, so a big thank you to those that cover the games.
  10. Why is it when our relievers falter we hold them accountable..see Phelps and Bottalico...but when our bench players falter we make excuses(not us, the coaches/announcers) about how it is tough to play once a week blah blah blah. There is a reason that Magruder plays hard and is hyperactive in the box...it gives the appearance that he is a gritty Lenny Dystra type...unfortunately minus the talent. He runs hard to first, he hustles in the outfield, he battles at the plate...but what about production? He is the anti-Grieve.
  11. Ralph, Rydogg beat me to it but Suppan is nothing more than average. You have been psyched out just like the Brew Crew. Others don't like my psyched out angle but I think it plays a part. Yes, they outplayed us but not with better players. Many of us are frustrated because our lineup looked better. I guess there is more to it than that.
  12. brett I disagree, they were, in mind, weak lineups. Pujols and Edmonds only played in ONE game together in this series. I notice you only mentioned two players. So you can add any players to Pujols and it automatically isn't weak. Larussa basically told Yost and Co. we can beat you with any lineup...and they did. Reyes is good and yes suppan owns us, but my god these excuses just go on and on....I'm just frustrated and looking for answers.
  13. Well put guys. Yost can not spin this and claim Cardinals, Cardinals, Cardinals....this was a depleted bunch that played with more urgency than we did...maybe we pressed too much...whatever happened it is clear we are just a .500 team or slightly below. I said this before, I don't blame Yost, but on the other side I believe Larussa did a great job...I think he psyched us out a bit with weak lineups and a rookie pitcher. He was managing hard as hell while acting like ho-hum this is no big series.
  14. According to Yahoo! Clark left with a ribcage contusion and is day to day...sorry if this was already posted.
  15. I think Yost made the wrong move but it doesn't really matter if your players don't execute. And we could argue the point forever to no avail. I think Larussa managed a great series but I don't blame this on Yost. The players had a big series and they flat out layed an egg. We seemed intimidated from the beginning and we shouldn't have. I think our remote playoff dreams are all but dashed, and we now have a hot Reds team coming to town. And now we may have lost Brady as well. Yuk.
  16. I respectfully disagree with you naivin. If we haven't scored up to that point we damn well better try and get one. Just a difference of opinoin. We shall see.
  17. Ok I can't watch or listen to the game but let me see if I have this right....We have runners on 1st and 3rd with one out down 1-0 in the 7th inning and we let Sheets hit? He is the worst hitter in the majors followed by Magruder? All because Sheets is dealing? Who cares if he is dealing, if we lose 1-0. Larussa has completely psyched out Yost in this series and Yost can sit and say how they are the Cardinals...blah, blah, blah....look at the lineups for these 3 games and no way we should lose all 3. We have one inning to score cuz we won't hit izzy for sure.
  18. I think it is a little early to annoint some of these players. I'm excited as well that they got out to such a good start but it is only one game. I'm sorry...I apologize...it's just I've been a Brewer fan for a long time...it's only natural for me to be negative. I hope they can all keep it up. Good to see Salome's defense didn't keep him down.
  19. Rob, Why do you keep on with this? Honestly you can't make the statements you made without expecting some backlash. Saying a guy has to do what it takes, what the heck is that? He is a pitcher trying to get out every hitter, not just certain hitters. He gave up 3 runs on two swings of the bat. Sheets wouldn't call it a great game but certainly not material for bashing on this board. It is actually quite common for the best pitchers in the league to struggle early if at all, Sheets seems to be in that class right now. Now if you don't throw any more jabs and then follow that with a truce this should be done. Can we all agree that our hitting with RISP did us in tonight?
  20. I'm bettin the full day off for Jenkins just ended. That was a poor approach with two strikes for Mag. He has such a strange swing..looks like a two hand forehand in tennis.
  21. I agree Sheets is always putting us behind early and therefore he is not a #1 stud. I mean he should know he is pitching against Mulder who is not going to give up many runs, therefore he needs to bear down and try harder, be a winner, and realize that if he is going to choose to give up runs he should do it later in the game after we get ahead. He simply doesn't inspire his teammates to score enough runs for him. I say we drop him to our number 2 starter. wink.
  22. I'm not upset that Obie got sent down but if you listen to the statements of Sutton and Schroeder, it is clear he was set up to fail...not purposely of course....but if you have command issues and don't pitch for 9 days, how do you work out those problems. Then, we bring him in, finally, and he blows up. Obie had a good thing going in the bullpen and then he suddenly disappeared. I think this is something that Yost needs to work on in his managerial career. He tends to bury relievers and then displays frustrations when they aren't consistent.
  23. Doesn't make sense though to sit Jenkins and not Overbay. But I'm glad to see a lineup complaint on here, usually means good things. Mulder has been on a role..4 straight wins and excellent numbers. LH's are hitting .172 off Mulder this year while RH's are hitting .302. I think Overbay is playing because he recently complained that the reason he is not hitting well is he is not consistent at bats. If we can keep it close maybe Jenks can help us late, as someone suggested earlier.
  24. We could see Jorge tonight, if Yost thinks it is safe. We still have Wes O.? I think our defense on the right side of the infield might be the worst in the majors.
  25. Does anyone know what is going on at Nashville? After the first game of a DH on Friday(?) neither Fielder or Krynzel has started. I also believe Hart did not start in two of those games. Injuries, fatigue, discipline? I see both Prince and Hart PH, so they can't be hurt, can they?
