    The best you are going to get with DeFelice is average. The best you can get from Gagne is Cy Young Caliber. You have to give him another shot. I'll give him until at least the trade deadline to show us what he's got.

    I'm just copying and pasting from my previous post. This argument is used too much. Sure, Melvin didn't hire all the scouts and Jack Z, but why replace someone if they do a good job? He has built, both through hiring and keeping those already hired, a great scouting team that has done wonders on our farm system. Saying Melvin gets no credit for that is like saying Bill gates gets no credit for running Microsoft. Melvin is the head of a giant team of personel evaluaters. If you give credit to his subordinates, DM should get just as much credit for assigning them that job.

    If i would have known that Linebrink was going to put up a 1.45 ERA, then yes. But neither DM nor myself have the ability to see into the future.

    I don't think its fair to cherry pick 3 months of stats and totally disregard his numbers last year. Really at this point, he hasn't had enough at bats to make any sort of generalization of what he will be in the future.

    Why should we wait, Inman is pitching in the futures game and Linebrink caughed up the game the other night against the Cubs? The two draft picks were reaches and the one is older than Garrison and Inman. Inman hasn't even sniffed the majors yet. There are plenty of "can't miss" prospect that did in fact miss. Inman is not a "can't miss." Ben Hendrickson dominated the minors and couldn't get a guy out in the majors. Linebrink is having a great year, 1.45 ERA. Making judgements on a player for one game is just silly. If we are giving Melvin the credit for this statement, we might as well credit the parents, his teachers, and high school coaches. Again, Jack Z put these guys together. Melvin pissed away 20 million this year on washed up talent. This argument is used too much. I count 1, Gagne, and that was 10 million. It was risk that had to be taken though. Not many people could have predicted Torres to perform this well.

    Melvin has created a great young core of players and still has a lot of talent coming up in the minors. He had a great offseason, 4 great signings, 2 OK, 1 bad (to this point). He has made some very good trades in the past and I expect him to make another one this season. This should not turn into a Melvin thread, I believe there is one of those somewhere, but I've never understood how anyone can say Melvin is not one of the better GMs in the league.

    I guess to me, it seems like Prince will be gone either this offseason or soon there after. Maybe this trade doesn't fit for both teams, but to me, it seems like a very good starting point.

    I think its definitely a fit for the Brewers, maybe not so much for the Indians, but they seem to need some power in that lineup with the decline of Hafner and Martinez's lack of HRs this season. The are currently 18th in the league in HRs with 71, but Sizemore is leading the team with 17, so maybe they wouldn't want to deal their biggest power threat... oh well, wishful thinking I guess.

    I was thinking about this today and if we were to trade Fielder I think the best move would be with Cleveland for Grady Sizemore. We fill a need in CF and at Leadoff. LaPorta can come in and play 1B. Maybe this move wouldn't work straight up since the Crew will be looking for a Starting Pitcher it would seem, but I think this would be a great starting point. What do you guys think? Sizemore's contract: 06:$0.5M, 07:$0.75M, 08:$3M, 09:$4.6M, 10:$5.6M, 11:$7.5M, 12:$8.5M club option ($0.5M buyout) 2012 option may escalate to $10.5M if Sizemore wins Gold Glove or Silver Slugger, makes All Star team or ranks high in MVP vote award bonus: $0.1M for Gold Glove in 2008 if Sizemore is traded: [li]he receives $0.5M assignment bonussalaries for remaining seasons increase by 10% 2012 option becomes a player option & buyout is forfeited if Sizemore declines the option [/li]

    Last 4 games this month... @ Twins McClung ERA 3.79 (Road 2.10) vs Blackburn ERA 3.68 (Home 2.20) Parra ERA 4.29 (Road 7.24) vs Hernandez ERA 5.23 (Home 3.86) Sheets ERA 2.59 (Road 2.41) vs Slowey ERA 3.96 (Home 4.71) @ Diamondbacks Bush ERA 4.94 (Road 6.92) vs Davis ERA 3.68 (Home 3.38) These could be some tough matchups... lets hope we get 2 of these to finish at 17-9.
