  1. I'd suspect because it's just a visit and I don't think everybody wants to get riled up over a simple visit. From the sentiments on this page and others, I think Mark A and others know that the fans overall may not be hugely popular over researching moving to Florida. And why tell them about the visit. Likewise, I dont believe Mr. Calhoon. Ed Smith Stadium has other suitors (local HS baseball) and it is smart business for both sides to be hush hush about meetings and the general direction they wish to go. Until a deal is struck or atleast imminent, I wouldn't expect either side to go to the media. And I'm not saying it's a done deal. It's just a prelim meeting at this point to visit the facilities. The fact that madtown has also heard the same story from what I assume are two different people within the govt. there (his being in the Senate, mine being in the Sarasota Parks & Rec mgmt), then I would have to lend some credibility that the Brewers are interested and such a meeting is taking place. I'm not saying this is a done deal, but based upon the all the pro's listed, I dont see how they listen to the other and refuse. That is why I think it will get done, not because anybody has told me so. How soon will this get done? The improvements should be done in time for the 2010 spring season? Making next season the final in Arizona, just in time for the option year.
  2. I dont mean to stir trouble, but I had no problems finding reports from the local newspapers, including Tampa, the Bradenton Herald and the Sarasota Herald tribune (newscoast.com). In addition to my friends in the Sarasota government, I dont understand why everybody wants to dismiss this so badly. Most of the talks are behind the scenes as to no ruffle feathers. I feel this is going to get done in Sarasota.
  3. In most of the futurecasts I've seen, the rain stays well West (Madison) until in the wee morning hours Saturday.
  4. Oak Creek HS, another one would be great. 6pm
  5. I agree with that sentiment Jason. i've told my share of lies, especially when 19 years old. Throw in a chance to make millions and I can't turn my nose up at what Tejada did.
  6. Kudos to him for coming out and telling the truth.
  7. I'm up for that. Anybody else?
  8. Anybody up for a light BP tonight? I live in the Franklin/HC area, but would travel a bit if anybody wants to get some swings in?
  9. I know for a fact from Sarasota Officials that a tour of the facilities is occurring the first week of May. There's definitely more than a curiousity interest.
  10. I could eat! Keep me away from the grill however, I burn half of the items, undercook the other half.
  11. No, I was just giving out my own points based upon how I felt about his comment, in Around the horn style.
  12. The winning percentage is .615. That's 99 wins. Considering we've played more on the road than at home. I'm not concerned. Frustrated at the approach when behind in ball games, yes. Other than the game I attended at Shea last Sunday, we dont play well from behind. Enter Dave Bush into the equation and the likelihood of falling behind early grows. The kids have said they are confident that they are going to win most ballgames, so I dont think they are pressing to win. I think they press when they fall behind early and have a tendency to have poor approaches at the plate.
  13. I'm cool with the move to SS. I've spent the past 4 years playing mostly 2b and pitcher when they made me. I'll enjoy the move. I was impressed with Nick at 3B and think we'll make a solid left side of the infield. Valpo, we can do some DP work up the middle if you get the time, and that goes for anybody else who ever wants to get in some quick practice. I've got a bag of about 50 balls and am used to just going out and hitting, some times just two of us in Florida. Hit me up on the cell anytime when the sun shines. PM me for the number! Luke
  14. It's also not good if the player can't understand why they are sitting in the first place. He deserved to sit a game. Braun, stop swinging at every single pitch, and you won't be sitting. Per Around the Horn...... +3
  15. I hope the past few games goes to show that it's the players inability to hit regardless of position in the batting order and that the argument is quite silly. 3rd or 4th. 4th or 3rd. 6 in one, half dozen in the other. Fielder and Braun just aren't hitting the ball regardless of where they bat. Until that improves, a simple switch in the batting order isnt seemingly igniting anything. Like a "magical light switch" some thought that would turn on.
  16. There are certainly exceptions to the rule, but they make every effort to avoid it.
  17. How this team is 3 games over .500 is beyond me at this point. Starting pitching has carried this team seemingly with a strong bullpen minus Turnbow and McClung. Our team batting average must be somewhere near .240 or .230.
  18. I just picked the wrong thread to read over breakfast.
  19. Even when Yost knows what the best play is, he still hopes things will turn out the way he wants. The only problem with that is you have to manage for 162 games, not just tonight. Without another off day till next week, you have to manage your bullpen for the week and sometimes that involves "hoping" a guy can get you through so that the rest of the week can be spent puting guys in the right positions instead of having a domino effect all over not trusting a guy for one or two more innings.
  20. I wouldnt call Rickie a bust, just slightly underachieving at this point in terms of defense. To Hall's credit, he doesn't boot balls like Rickie does. But GIDP is certainly frustrating enough to rant tonight.
  21. Considering tonight's matchup, I had to chalked up as a L. However, I thought we'd score more than 1 run.
  22. What makes a game one of those 42? Are we talking non blowouts? Games that are decided in the final 2 or 3 innings. If so, then no, today is not one of them
  23. I smell a rant. But yeah, I hear ya. Very disappointing that he has all that ability to atleast hit to right side and he grounds weakly at the shorstop and gets doubled up by 4 steps.
  24. From a buddy who went to the Jim Evans MLB academy, it's for the gambling and integrity of the game. Plus the flexibility to make changes due to fatigue, injury, or otherwise as you are generally 99.9999% of the time prohibited from working your the game of your favorite team or hometown team. Few exceptions when the Milwaukee umpire (name fails me) was retiring and got to work Milwaukee for his farewell game.
  25. I couldn't agree more. I've always thought it to be extremely cocky. In fact, during the first series this year, I secretly wished in my head this exact scenario. It's the same as Sosa's hop and Soriano's hop after hitting a home run.
