  1. The schedules are not released to the public and are not typically made much farther than three weeks in advance.
  2. Ok, maybe I didn't read this correctly, but I assumed we were all talking about the distance from Sarasota to the Braves facility at the Wide World of Sports/Disney. Which in actuality is far from Orlando, but for sake of simplicity, we were calling it Orlando. If I was wrong, please correct me. The facility is actually just West of Lake Buena Vista. Which from my home at SR 70 and I-75 is 103 miles. At 80mph, that's 76 mintues. The speed limit is 70mph, so even if you do the speed limit that's 88 minutes or just under an hour and a half. To some, that is a lengthy trip, but there are several fields even closer, all within an hour. And that's only considering the road games. 9 miles, Mechechnie (Pirates) 33 miles, Progress Energy Park (Rays) 50 miles, Brighthouse Networks Fields (Phillies) 53 miles, Knology Park (Blue Jays) 53 miles, Steinbrenner Park (Yankees)- 68 miles, Joker Merchant Stadium (Tigers) Heck, even the Red Sox Facility in Ft. Myers is only a touch away. at 78 miles. Bottom line, I've never been to Arizona and I'm sure it's great to have all those ballparks within 45 minutes rather than an hour. I just cant see what saving 15 minutes to a half an hour is going to ruin the experience. Especially since I find it enjoyable to see new ballparks. Sarasota is on the west coast, so there is not an influx of college idiots running around for spring break. The weather is a bit more humid or swampy as some have suggested, but certainly not unbearable in the middle of March. There seldom is a rainout, because rain showers typically go like clockwork in that they occur around 4:45- 5:45 well after games are over by 3-4 pm. I think there are more family and even "solo" type of things to do in Florida, but again, never been to Arizona, all I can go by is tourist websites.
  3. Even if he throws a perfect game tonight, Bush goes to the Pen and McClung to AAA.
  4. Should be there at 5
  5. Google Maps is notoriously lousy at being 25-40% off with their driving times. I do tend to drive a little fast given my law enforcement career in Sarasota. However, in no such circumstances does it take 2.5 hours to get from Sarasota to Orlando. In the middle of the night, it can take me 70 mintues to get from Sarasota to Disney. With traffic, the longest it has ever taken was 1 hour and 40 minutes, and that was with a little stop and go through Malfunction Junction (I-4 / I-75 Interchange). I would be thrilled if the Brewers came to Florida and double over backwards if the team came to Sarasota. Sarasota had the deal on the table to pump 12 million into an already "quasi-good" facility. I went to several A-ball games (Sarasota Reds) at that park and would be thrilled if a minor league team of the Brewers system called Sarasota home. It would be the same division as the Tampa Yankees, etc. The driving distance to some of these parks is way overrated. Figure that half of the games are home games, and traveling to the Al Lang Field, Mechecnie Field, Clearwater, etc are all under an hour, there is no reason to not get in 7-10 Brewers game during a two week trip to Florida. Figure in that there is so much to do in Florida that SHOULD take you to other parts of the state and it's a better ulternative than Arizona, in my opinion. Again, I'm biased because I spent the past ten years there and may end up going back if the missus drags me, but I can't really see any cons. Plan to take that two-day trip to Disney when the crew faces the Braves, etc. I'm sure the family would appreciate a dose of something other than baseball.
  6. I wont turn this into a thread detailing my trip, but yeah, having never been to NYC, I took the John Rocker 7 train and was absolutely blown away at the garbage and grafitti and bums and homeless and minorities playing music for money. Sure, there were a good share of good people and I'll post a bigger thread in the off-topic perhaps detailing the experience, but I was generally unimpressed.
  7. Is this an optional thing? I can't imagine not playing without a jersey? Barritt - 12
  8. I dont misses practices or games. And most often make throwarounds and impromptu hitting, etc. Give me a call anytime. See you's Tuesday
  9. I will be there. Sorry, was at Shea all day and NYC all weekend and hadn't a chance to respond. Bball, sorry for the crazy winter, I will bring you a check to the practice on Tuesday.
  10. I used that one season because that is the only level that each spent a significant amount of time at. 220 at bats got accomplished in 55 or so games, so I'm not going to unfairly try and make a comparison on that, so I choose the AA numbers. I didnt cherry-pick to see what was Weeks worst minor league season. I also am not going to try and look at Rickie's major league career numbers and compare them to a season of Crabbe's. Bottom line is stolen base percentages were not better, Fielding was not better, plate discipline was not better and Rickie has severly underachieve whereas Crabbe has overachieved. Rickie certainly had more potential, but I would rather have had an overachieving Crabbe up at this point and a different 1st round pick from that draft year. (pared back long nested quote --1992)
  11. I agree with Brewer Fever to some extent, but that just really attempts to solve half the problem and not address his defensive liability. Who bats leadoff with Rickie Weeks somewhere else? Cameron maybe, but even he has more of a power stroke than Weeks does. Corey Hart seemed to do well in the leadoff role last year, maybe that is an option. But again, until a change is made on defense, some losses are going to be a direct result of the defense on the right side of the infield.
  12. Weeks is not a more efficient base stealer. Overall in the minors Rickie was only 63% effective while Crabbe was 71% effective. Those numbers you cited were AAA number only, for which Rickie only spent 225 atbats. A better comparison would be AA numbers that I posted below. Overall numbers for all of the minor leagues is available for each player at baseball-reference.com. Crabbe does have the defensive edge, better plate discipline, better baserunning ability and stolen base percentages and therefore I consider him a better all-around player than Rickie Weeks. Plus if you consider where Weeks was drafted at and the fact that Crabbe came out of Manatee Comm College as a relative unknown, I'd say that Crabbe has overachieved his value while Weeks has not. Aside from an occasional ability to display power, Weeks has not outperformed Crabbe. Consider this team does not have a need for power from the leadoff spot, I'd rather have Crabbe manning second base for the Milwaukee Brewers than Weeks. Crabbe AA 472AB 59 R 126H 18 doubles, 2 triples, 5 HR, 46 RBI, 71 BB, 62K .267/.368/.345 32SB 13CS FP .974 13E Weeks AA 479AB 67 R 124H 35 doubles, 6 triples, 8 HR, 42 RBI, 55 BB, 107 K .259/.355/.407 11SB 12CS FP .969 17E
  13. I've always like Callix Crabbe better than Rickie Weeks, for just about every facet of the game except the ability to get HBP. Crabbe's minor league numbers were all better than Weeks, especially the ability to draw walks and not strikeout. Talk about OBP, Crabbe is better than the numbers we rave about with Rickie. Sure, he doesnt hit for power, but I dont need that out of a leadoff second baseman. Just get on base, dont strikeout and dont boot the ball.
  14. Greetings from NYC!! No way this game gets completed tonight. I'm not even sure it gets started. It's getting black in a hurry. Thank god I choose the sunday afternoon game. Maybe I'll get lucky and the double-dip will be sunday, but not likely I guess.
  15. It seems there were a lot of commitments not going well for this team. They were supposed to practice at the Ulhein Soccer Park, which is also where the Milwaukee Wave practice (6800 Good Hope Rd)., which is a very nice facility. I attended a flag football practice the other night at the Franklin Sports Complex. It was my first time there and I was not impressed with the facility. I was surprised to see Gilbert and the bonecrushers there. Something must have been up already because Coach Brown was sitting on his arse in the snack bar area, if you want to call it that and the team was conducting drills on the field. He looked like he didnt want to be there. I am also waiting for some explanation from Drick23, and wondering what it will mean for the colossal rivalry the Bonecrushers have with the Chicago Slaughter. I was also hoping to hear from Coach Brown on 1250 WSSP this morning, but alas, not a word. They want to call this product "professional" football, yet I've seen nothing "professional" out of this organization yet.
  16. Alright, here's the deal. I'm not a big video game guy, however I do like to break out my Playstation 2 from time to time when I get bored. I purchased MLB The Show 07' last year and played the game for about 6 months. I now wanted to start playing again, but wanted the current rosters. For some reason, I thought that was a feature with the new games that you could somehow download the current rosters from year to year without having to buy the 08' version? Do I have a new enough gaming system for this or am I forced to buy an Xbox or something? Also, do I have to purchase these updates? Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  17. I'll also be there, I just haven't yet decided Saturday or Sunday...or both. It'll be my first trip to New York, so I may have to take Saturday to do all the other tourist junk and Sunday for the ballgame. However that likely means watching Suppan rather than Sheets.
  18. I believe Bill Hall as two plate appearances vs Barry Zito. One was a grand slam and the other was a sac fly resulting in 5 rbi's but only a .500 OBP.
  19. And maybe it's just me being from Florida the past ten years, but a tractor pull? That was not the first event that came to mind. The only non-event I remember last year was the bowling tournament, but a tractor pull?
  20. How important is natural grass to you as a fan? I know that the current field is always in quasi-decent shape, but the players have openly stated that they love the field and playing on natural grass. I can't recall any slippages, poor play, or injuries as a result of the grass or the conditions of the field given the roof. That said, Attanasio and Schlesinger have stated that the revenue from added events would certainly be worth puting in the Field Turf, so that concerts and events can be held without fear of damaging the playing conditions. As a fan, would you rather have this added revenue to add to a growing payroll and keep competitive or would you rather have the look and feel of natural grass? Miller Park's turf By Don Walker Saturday, Apr 5 2008, 11:14 AM jsonline.com It won't happen anytime soon, but the Milwaukee Brewers are giving some thought about Miller Park's turf. Most fans understand that the turf is not going to be in tip-top shape this early in the season. Because of the design of the stadium, there are sections of grass that don't see sunlight, and that causes problems. As a result, the Brewers are looking at the possibility of putting Field Turf in some day. Field Turf is a combination of real grass and synthetic fibers and has proven to be hugely popular at other sports venues. The Brewers recognize and appreciate the fact that the players like to play on real grass. But advances in Field Turf and other products may force their hand. There is also an economic component. The franchise would like to attract more non-baseball events at Miller Park, but worry any activity will ruin the field. "We can't have things like tractor pulls that can bring in revenue," said principal owner Mark Attanasio. "The players like playing on real grass. We still care a lot about that." Rick Schlesinger, the team's executive vice president for business operations, has been to other parks to see various versions of Field Turf. Don't expect things to change too soon. But it seems that Miller Park will one day have a kind of artificial surface.
  21. at the .800 they are at now. They are on pace for 129 wins. I thought nothing could top the 24-10 start from last season, but who knows. They are on pace for a 27-7 start at this rate.
  22. It looks like the final numbers show 2 errors. I thought there were 3? Counsell 1st inning. Prince's throw on the steal attempt and Bill Hall's under his glove?
  23. Does Prince do the chewing tobacco thing or is that a whole crap load of seeds? Doubt he'd do the veggie thing by taking care of his body and then introduce the mouth cancer, but hey, never know.
  24. How are we supposed to keep his inning and pitch count down when his WHIP is near .050 and ERA at Nil?
