  1. I agree. Umps should being starting a game with the intention of playing it to completion. Not restarting with the intention of getting 4 outs. That jeopardizes player safety, IMO. If you honestly don't believe a game could go the distance, you don't restart
  2. Yeah, nothing can replace a life, but I'd stop short of saying that he "got off light". In addition to criminal penalties, atleast he'll be able to make good on the civil agreement, unlike most joe schmos who'd never be able to pay a dime even if the family got a judgement. Again, not that it replaces a life.
  3. I understand your point, But this isn't football, there are 162 of these things. I'm not against a doubleheader. Nothing wrong with playing two tomorrow or Sunday.
  4. If the Umps call them back out simply for the purpose of getting 1 more inning in and it's still raining, I'd be pissed. Would rather the Umps not risk player safety playing in the rain when there both teams have an off day on Monday. If I were Macha and they tried to call me out in anything more than a drizzle, I tell my guys not to take to the field in protest.
  5. To be completely accurate, he got more than 24 days in jail. He'll spend another 2 years on house arrest and will be on probation for an additional 8 years after, I believe. Some community service involving speaking out on DUI's will be involved as well. So it's not just 24 days and free and clear.
  6. However, this would conflict with the statement that the clubhouses were spared the worst of the damage. Not sure which tunnels you are speaking of, perhaps the dugout tunnels or umpire tunnels? But when we have had hard rains before with the roof open, it flooded through the "openings" in right and left field and then downward on the "ramps" into the service level. Which is presumably how the clubhouses were spared. I can't imagine management decided to leave the roof open with the big storm coming as predicted, but who apparently so.
  7. Ticket office is closed. The computer systems are all screwed up. Employees working from home for the most part.
  8. Reschedule date would presumably be Monday. Both teams with an off day. Therefore, every pushes back for an extra day of rest Sat Looper Sun Bush Mon Gallardo Tues Suppan Wed 5th starter needed Or if you skip Looper Sat Bush Sun Gallardo Mon Suppan Tues Looper Wed Bush on 3 days rest? Otherwise, yes a 5th starter will be needed
  9. I agree with TLB. Since when does being a professional not include a little playful interaction with the fans? It's not like he flipped them the bird, cussed out their momma, or something to that effect. I don't think he did something so obvious that young children would have been offended. Sports in all forms is getting to the point of providing more and more side entertainment than just the game. Baseball purists won't like it, but it's just the way it's become.
  10. Without being there, tough to imagine "how" the flooding occurred. Having worked in the "service" level for two years, I don't understand how it flooded. Did the Menomonee River flood?
  11. I did see that last night. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. I asked my wife, "Did Prince just give somebody the crotch chop". I was in the middle of cooking and didn't want to rewind the DVR. If I remember correctly, once he got into the dugout, he got a quick word and a look of unapproval from either Macha or Randolph, I don't recall which.
  12. Yeah, but come on FTC, look at how many Minor League Championships we are missing out on!
  13. I guess that is what I am not understanding in the interest of fairness. Why have a draft if it is first come first serve for international players. If I was a 16yo and lived in Wisconsin (could happen anywhere) and was a baseball phenom. Say, I wanted to play for my hometown team and my hometown team wanted me in their system. What procludes the Brewers from making side agreements, my Dad taking me out of school and sending me the Dominican Republic for one year and then I just opt to be a "Free Agent" from the Dominican Republic and sign with the Brewers for the said side agreement we had already planned out a year prior, therefore skipping the draft and 29 other teams from having a chance to draft me? Seems like a hinky and unfair system.
  14. That makes sense as to Candian players due to the Toronot franchise. Is Puerto Rico the same as well because it is a U.S. Territory then, or no? I was largely unaware that Escobar was acquired in this manner, but that it is good to hear that we are being a bit more active with foreign born players. That said, is it fair to allow deep pockets to control the acquisition of international players? Why doesn't the collective bargaining agreement control this? I can't imagine US prospects or USA born veterans are happy about the money tossed at some international players that don't have to be subject to a drafting process?
  15. Maybe this belongs in the minors forum, so move if neccessary. Could somebody please explain to me the process for which foreign born players, presumably foreign living players are acquired by MLB teams. It has come to my attention lately that they are not in the June draft as most of the other 2000+ players that are selected and then enter their respective farm systems. It would seem that they are simply signed to the highest dollar by the highest bidder without any arbitrary process other than one of deep pockets? It appears studs such as Carlos Zambrano (1997), Ichiro Suzuki (2000), and others have been acquired via this "amatuer free agent" route. However, why are Canadian players seemingly exempt from this process? Justin Morneau (1999) & Brett Lawrie (2008). Why is it that foreign born/residing players are not subjected to the draft and therefore in fairness to all teams involved? Seemingly a collective bargaining agreement would address this issue? No? It would seem unfair to small and mid markets such as the Milwaukee Brewers. It does appear however that Dave Nilsson (1987) was acquired this way? Once an All-Star, but hardly a franchise player or star prospect though. The reason I bring this up is because of the latest Dominician prospect Miguel Angel Sano. Supposedly the Yankees, Orioles, Pirates, and Twins are interested in Sano. But honestly, it would seem just the Yankees and Orioles are the best suitors given the payroll. Not that Brewers have shown interest, but had we, would we be likely to nab a top international prospect given the payroll? I never recall the Brewers making a huge splash in the international market, atleast not any big names. Is it strictly a money issue as it seems or am I missing something else? Is our international scouting not up to par that we aren't finding these prospects? Is dabbling in the international market fair for all teams in the league without subjecting these players to a fair draft. It would seem that it isnt to me, but I welcome any dialouge on the subject as I welcome any knowledge I can get on the minors systems and processes.
  16. Just curious why you put Buchholz in the mix with the other 3. I dont think Buchholz would cost heavy in prospects. He's just a AAA prospect himself. Not an established "Ace", or even #2 like the other 3 guys in that grouping. Escobar (blocked AAA stud) for Buchholz (blocked AAA stud) straight up seems about right to me.
  17. Any chance you can get a picture of said graffitti. I teach criminal justice classes and sometimes the class needs some comedic relief.
  18. I dont think TH should have handled the rumor at all, IMO. TH may very well get no respect, but this argument is going in circles. To get respect, you have to give respect. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I reckon the people "disrespecting" TH are 1 to 99 that just want to read what he says. Take my grandmother for example, just got into the internet for her news and a frequenter of jsonline. She couldn't tell the difference between a blog and a newsstory on there, just reads every story there is regarding the Brewers. She hasn't once, to my knowledge, posted something nasty to Haudricort in his blog replies. Shame on her if she did http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . But does she, as a reader of his blog (just a news story in her opinion as I doubt she knows the difference) deserved of his attitude because of "what he has to put up with"? This will be my last comment regarding this in this thread. There is a Haudricort thread somewhere and I'll go there if need be.
  19. To add to that, the freakin' title is "Trade Chatter Heating Up". To me that means, "Hey it's late June, the buyers and sellers are getting aligned, teams are starting to talk" Nothing more.
  20. I don't know where the confusion is sarge. 99% of the people posting here don't give two beans where TH covered the rumour or not. The problem is with his attitude towards his readership. I can't excuse his whiny attitude based upon the attitudes that he has to deal with others, that just doesn't hold water for me. That's his profession and he chose it. That's like excusing the behavior of a police officer who uses excessive force unneccessairly. "Well, he deals with bad attitudes of citizens all day and his supervisors get on him and he has lots of stress from other co-workers to make a lot of arrests and write a lot of tickets, yada yada" No! Be a professional is all we are asking. I don't find TH to be the epitome of a professional and certainly can't excuse it because of "what he has to deal with".
  21. Per his manager taken at face value, "We felt missing a start would rejuvenate him a little," manager Don Wakamatsu said. "He's fine."
  22. Latest Trade Chatter per Ken Rosenthal, as posted on mlbtraderumors.com: Scouts are reporting that Brewers scouts have been following the outings of Erik Bedard. The scout believes the Brewers will make a "strong play at him" JJ Hardy, despite the slump, remains appealing to several teams, however Escobar gets "constantly" asked about. Red Sox sniffed around for a Hardy-Penny swap, but the deal would not work for Milwaukee.....(thank you Doug), though a Hardy or Escobar for 4+ years of Bucholz I could do.
