  1. I wouldn't call it a brag thread. More like......In other action around the world...or something to that effect. My team had our first game last night. We lost 15-13. At the dish, 1 for 2 with a triple, walk, and sac fly, 2 rbi in 4 plate appearances. Most proud of the defense last night at 2b. Turned two double plays and made a nice relay through from the RF to the C to nab a guy sliding in at the plate.
  2. There is no easy answer, but consider if you committed the same disciplinary offense at work and got two weeks suspension because you are part-time and work 30 hours per week, yet the other guy who works a 40 hour shift and overtime on a regular basis only gets 3 days worth. Though it rarely happens, the argument could be that they wanted that pitcher available out of the pen or to pinch hit. How about this, if a pitcher gets hurt, you take away 3 days worth of pay, yet you can punish his playing time by only allowing starting pitchers to go 40/50/60 pitches in their next two starts?
  3. Obviously he wants to win, but I'll bet he isn't kicking himself walking into the bank or standing at the ATM.
  4. Gamel has been ok. I think at the plate, he tries to go the other way too much and cheats himself. Too many F7's in my opinion. I hope he stays up despite the short time at AAA. He was raking there for 6 weeks, not sure what else could be accomplished other than regular playing time.
  5. So a pitcher loses 2 weeks of pay for the same conduct a position player loses 3 days of pay?
  6. Sounds like grounds for disqualification. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  7. In the bordering county to my northeast, Polk County, FL.... Sheriff's officials have busted up a huge steroid ring yesterday. The suspect has already implicated the Washington Nationals as having players who are "clients" of his. Just when I thought baseball was clean, this really raises my eyebrows. What can baseball do at this point? Everybody pee in a cup every week and if you are caught, your team forfeits games? I think I would be all for that. I want clean baseball. http://www.baynews9.com/content/36/2009/5/27/477398.html?title=Report:+Steroid+operation+sold+to+pro+athletes
  8. How about Cabrera from Cleveland for the leadoff spot? Don't think he would cost too much.
  9. Just my two cents, but it doesn't seem like a "pose" in my opinion. I think it is just an extension of Billy's swing. It seems like he is just trying to extend a bit and "finish" high. I've seen him do it on ground balls as well and strikes that are missing. It just seems like a long swing to me and not standing in the box. I'm probably wrong, just how I perceived it. And trust me, I have no emotional allegiance to Bill Hall.
  10. My Extra Innings feed always cuts to black immediately right after the game, did not get to see that. Did it seem kind of "in your face"?
  11. What's this run-off you speak of?
  12. I would love a photo if there are any still available. Thank you.
  13. Nice article down here in Florida about Craig Counsell, his nickname as "The Chicken" and a heartwarming story of divine intervention, irregardless if you believe in such a thing. Perhaps there is nothing to comment on to neccesitate bringing a new thread, other to add to the mystique of Craig Counsell. It was briefly touched on during the Marlins/Brewers broadcast, but I think it was the FSN Florida feed, so not sure how many of you got a chance to listen. Rich Donnelly and Anibal Sanchez find strength in their shared grief over losing a child
  14. A recent article and study by Forbes financial magazine has reported that Brewers fans are the 2nd most valuable behind only the SF Giants. The article is very interesting, but I believe deceiving. The 2nd paragraph of the report is as follows: "We divided local revenue of each team (including such sources as local television and radio revenue, gate receipts and sponsorships) for the 2008 season by the population of its metropolitan area, according to the 2008 U.S. Census Bureau estimate. The resulting revenue-per-fan figure is a rough yardstick of a team's ability to capitalize on its fan base, regardless of market size." In the Brewers portion, they take a stab at Attanasio for whinning about losing Sabathia to a bigger market, yet point out he had a second best, $73.00 per fan to work with. It would seem to me that the study has a lot of holes. First and foremost being where they cut the population? 9 games per year against Chicago, etc. It also doesnt seem to take into account expenses, only "plausible revenue". Does this change anybody's perception as to us being a small market? Or our ability to have more money in the coffers? I've looked for merit in the article, I just can't find any. 15. I just need some quick help. I want to purchase (rent is probably the more appropriate word) a url for my softball team here in Florida. Similiar to what Jimbo did for brewerfansoftball.net. Is it just as simple as registering a domain name from GoDaddy.com? There is so much small print that I dont understand it all. Does registering mean they are hosting as well? Supposedly I can get the url I want for .99 cents for 1 year but that seems too good to be true. What are the steps I need to do, or is registering really all I need. I know HTML and stuff, but I've always just hosted on yahoo, geocities, etc. I need some advice. Any is welcome . Thanks in advance.
  16. No offense to the poster, just need some information for myself. Why does every post that mentions the name Catalanotto suggest that he will be on the 25 man roster, soon, very soon, in days, a couple of weeks, quickly, etc. The news of his signing a minor league deal did not raise a lot of eyebrows for me personally. Seemed like a AAAA signing. Is he going to be on the bench most of the time. Up just to DH? Didn't seem like a major move, yet I hear enough talk as if he may contribute significantly?
  17. I didn't want to start a new thread to point this out, albeit the title is 2008, however even with Rickie Weeks injury, all the talk about never becoming anything with Sheets and Sabathia, this Brewers team just put up the best W-L mark ever over a 25 game stretch. This according the MLBNetwork this morning. I think this 2009 season has a chance to be more special than the 2008 season. Not sure how many games pace this team is over last years team. Surely a September repeat won't happen, this team has a chance to be the best in Brewers history. I'll now go sip some more blue koolaid from the fridge and continuing smiling all the way over the inlaws later for dinner tonight (Father in law is a Cards fan..poor sucker doesnt know what's coming tonight).
  18. Tedaldtada29 had it spot on in my opinion. The only thing I'll add is that it appears to me that he initially rolled over to his back was to show the umpire that he indeed had the ball and was not hiding it or trapping a ball that might have rolled out of his glove. "Here it is, I've got it" (Arms outstretched, etc). Then when he looks back to the infield, he sees the out call, he relaxes a moment and smiles, taking in a nice play that we all dreamed of making playing baseball.
  19. In a mostly fun sort of way, that first sentence did read like, "Yeah, you want to go? Meet me at the oak tree in the courtyard after school." Got a couple of chuckles out of me this morning.
  20. Apparently Pittsburgh takes batting practice all the way up till gametime? FSN game intros (likely the blown up picture) are normally recorded 40-45 minutes prior to the time of airing (5 mins prior to first pitch).
  21. The Rays are so legit, they didn't even need their designated hitter today. All that 9=8 stuff must have gotten to Maddon's head. LOL! http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=4607731&c_id=mlb
  22. Valid thought. But unfortunately, it's true and she almost succumbed to the allergy upon her first encounter/discovery of peanuts. A valid thought you have though. Again, the merits of the whole situation are valid. I've already expressed my opinions. It's obvious that nobody is going to be swayed one way or the other despite how many examples of similiar behavior are out there. I just felt the need to set the record straight over the pompous fabrication of the "Hammer over the elderly comment".
  23. I agree. I've taken a few classes in law enforcement on running the intoxilyzer machines certification, etc. A few guys have to get verying levels of drunk on the last day of the class so that we can test out the equipment etc. I'm not a big drinker, but I did a moderate level of drinking and blew a .044 or so and there was no way I'd even attempt to ride a bicycle anywhere let alone drive a 2,000 pound machine. .044 was enough to render me useless, I can't imagine double that. **Editors Disclaimer...In no way did mentioning my occuppation attempt to win me any sympathy or otherwise. I simply wanted to show that I was a functioning member of society who had some background knowledge about the subject I was speaking about. End of Disclaimer**
  24. Please be knowledgeable before spreading rumour. He did not hammer past people sitting in one row of the handicapped section. He WAS sitting in the middle of that said row of the handicapped section. He has a half season ticket package there due to the highly toxic peanut allergy of his daughter. The Brewers gave him that area as it is easiest to maintain the situation with just 5-6 people in that area who may/may not eat peanuts and spread the shells around as opposed to hundreds in a section. He did not just come out of a standing room only area, "HAMMER past people sitting in a handicapped section" and then run back to some other area. His assigned seat was two seats over from where the ball landed. As stated before, I don't agree with everything Nick does, especially wearing other teams paraphernalia to grab a dozen worthless bp balls from some bullpen catcher who isn't even on the roster, but let's try and stick to facts when slamming a guy, yeah and not make up what you think happened.
