  1. I may be in the minority, but I'll go ahead and stand up for Nick to some extent here. I met Nick about two years ago and still maintain contact with him despite the fact that I recently moved back to Florida. I have not spoken to Nick about the Coghlen home run ball, so I haven't heard his side of the story. I've sat next to Nick at over 20 ballgames and have observed him on over a hundred occassions as a former MBBC employee. I have never once observed him "run over" or "push" any children, senior citizens, or otherwise out of the way to get a ball. I've also observed him on a few occassions while he was on-duty (yes, he's a real cop, not a mall cop as someone suggested) and he was nothing but professional in those instances. In this particular instance, I think you have to step outside the box a little bit and not think of the ball as you would think of it, as many of you stated it would have no value to you. As a collector of home run balls, this ball has "value" to Nick and likewise it obviously had "value" to Coghlen. If not, Coghlen wouldn't have asked for it back. I personally was watching the FSN Florida feed last night and they interviewed Nick around the 6th inning and asked him what it would take to get the ball back and Nick replied that he was "waiting for the authenticator to come down and authenticate the ball". Nick then stated that all he wanted was a Hanley Ramirez game used bat. I don't know what transpired afterwards, but I'll admit if the Miami Herald article is accurate, that's not a very heartwarming story, friend or not. But I don't think a Ramirez game used bat is all that much to ask for in return for a home run ball. It's simple supply and demand, if Coghlen doesn't want to bother to pester Ramirez for one of his two dozen game used bats at the moment, then apparently the value isn't worth it to him. I'm sure Nick would have been more than happy to just hang onto the ball and keep it next to his other 40+ balls on the shelf. But apparently, Coghlen and the Marlins officials could not let it go and kept pestering him. Similiar to the Jenkins situation in which Brewers officials kept pestering Nick despite repeated attempts of Nick telling them he would just keep the ball and go home. I don't fault Nick for asking of something in value in return for a home run ball. A picture of Coghlen? An autographed ball of Coghlen? I'm not a huge collector of things, but if I was, I don't think those things would be very enticing. All I want is a game used Ramirez bat doesn't seem like an out of this world request. But I must add Nick, should you be reading this, that I beg of you to stop wearing the paraphernalia of other teams. Stick with what you do best in catching home run balls. Getting 10 balls tossed to you by the bullpen catcher from Florida is lame.
  2. 1. E Bonifacio, 3B 2. C Coghlan, LF 3. H Ramirez, SS 4. J Cantu, 1B 5. J Baker, C 6. D Uggla, 2B 7. R Gload, RF 8. A Amezaga, CF 9. J Johnson, P 1. R Weeks, 2B 2. J Hardy, SS 3. R Braun, LF 4. P Fielder, 1B 5. M Cameron, CF 6. B Hall, 3B 7. C Duffy, RF 8. M Rivera, C 9. D Bush, P
  3. When did Braun hit a walk-off against the Cubs? I can't seem to remember nor find it. Maybe you are talking about the walkoff fielder's choice? In that case, I totally agree. Mow em down in the 9th Trevor is definitely more exciting.
  4. Since the economy sucks, I wont be able to take in the Brewers lone trip here to Florida on June 1st-4th. I've resigned myself to buying the series of Brevard County vs Sarasota that same week. Anybody have some pointers on who I'm keeping an eye on? What paraphernalia I should try and get signed? What names might be neat to have should they become Brewers in the mid 10's?
  5. If it's so horrible here, why did he apply for the job or accept an interview? What a pompous individual.
  6. I think it'd be awesome if the fans started untucking as well after a win. 30,000+ doing it would be pretty cool. I personnally hate the 'W" flags, but I dont feel the need to bash them. They won the game and they can do as they please. To me, "Celebration" is a post-event, "Cocky" is a pre-event.
  7. The injury bug continues for the NL Central. Rick Ankiel was carted off after slamming his neck/head akwardly into the center field wall. The Crew needs to take advantage and make a little run towards the top.
  8. Well maybe you should have gotten the comfirmation because that wasn't what happened. It certainly was!
  9. Late in the game, tying run at 2nd, go ahead run at first, one out. I told my wife, need to make a change here or it's a patented double play ground out. I walked away to the bathroom, didn't even need the confirmation.
  10. Not enough time to develop some tendencies, but I dont like how he seemingly likes to sit on his hands. I don't let my little leaguers walk 3 guys in a row, while I watch on. What you may do may not work, but just do something.
  11. I gave him the pass until his horrible outing in the playoffs. Now I've just had enough. Let some AAA arm get some experience. If this continues, I fully expect his ERA to be above 6.00 this season.
  12. I'd like to throw my name in the hat for the 2008 Year in Review DVD. Stuck in Florida and could not get my voucher turned in. Thanks Pedro
  13. Of course the owner in SF wants to delay the start of the game. More people to linger in the ballpark, buy more souveniers and concessions.
  14. http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=mux&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no Big Cell appears gone, some smaller cells look sporadic. Can we hope? Oh can we?
  15. Casey is absolutely correct. It's fine to schedule games in weather-troubled cities, but you have to do so between teams that are divisional foes so that they will meet again at some point in the season in that city. I think lost in this whole discussion is the fact that a rainout could happen at any time, the point is you dont schedule an exhibition during an off day. The rule should be when you leave Arizona or Florida, that is it for exhibition play. The Brewers did not need to play the Dodgers twice, etc. The only exception should be teams that are opening new stadiums. And even then, there is no reason to have them be the major league teams. Let your nearest minor league affiliates play there if necc.
  16. Looks like perfect timing as far as the lull goes. A 1:25pm start might get 5 innings in before the next wave at 4pm ish?
  17. Series, Wed/Thurs don't look good either. 30-40%??? If they wash out the whole series, then what? August 6th is a possible date as it is the only Brewers trip back to the West Coast (Unless you consider Colorado on Sept 28th). Aug 6th is an off day for both teams and the Giants will be home at that time. Sept 28th is an off day for both teams as well, with the Giants being home. Also perhaps they could just play the game at Miller Park during the Brewers home set with the Giants get last at-bats?
  18. The entire list can be found here. http://www.mccfl.edu/pages/658.asp Brewers include Robert Hinton , Justin Barnes, Callix Crabbe, & Danny Kolb
  19. Unfortunately, I am living back In Manatee County again. However, MCC is one hell of a junior college, making several JUCO championship tournaments in the past ten years, led by one hell of a coach in Tim Hill. I still take part-time classes at the college, economy willing, so I guess that makes me alum, kind of. "Brewers" farm system guys that have went to junior college off the top of my head include Callix Crabbe (yes that explains the man crush) and Chris Barnes. The list is more lengthy, but these are the two that I remember from my days.
  20. I think Myers got somebody again this year, but I missed the scene on MLB network. Here is the great prank they got Kyle Kendrick on last year, totally got him that they traded him to Japan. Great Stuff
  21. I was watching the Brewers-Dbacks game on MLB Network tonight and I see that Nick is in mid-season form. I think you guys oughta grant him exemption from practice, he's ready! Nice catch Nick, next time though, try not to kick the babe's purse all over the ground and don't forget to slash your hand across your chest and remind us what your shirt logos mean http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. You Know, I think you know, you may be onto something you know? Either that or you know, Weeks is just miscast as a you know, leadoff hitter, you know. Perhaps, you know, Weeks should be hitting 3rd where that free swing can relax a bit, you know? Still don't know how, you know, that helps him in the field, but hey, maybe you know, Willie Randolph can help him there, you know? This I do know, this oughta be the last go-round with him having his job guaranteed at 2nd base.
  23. Very Amateurish. Not to mention my own over-enthused voiceover. But it was thrilling to be on the field for something that was at a stretch, "26 years in the making". Being stuck back in Florida just makes me savor that one year as a employee of my favorite sports franchise that much more. My luck, the year was very memorable. My Brewers Clinch the Wild Card Video
  24. I personally have never had a problem with the prospect of doing it. I look at it this way. It's not to demean the other years of the franchise, it only serves as a reminder of the fun season that was the 2008 season. There was a significant accomplishment that was obtained in reaching the playoffs. It simply serves as a reminder of the playoff chase of 2008 and the season that was (obtaining CC, Braun's homer in Game 162, etc). I don't understand the notion that only a World Series Championship can be celebrated. It's just a way to remember 2008. I'd like to think that a majority of the fans of this franchise want to be reminded of how fun that 2008 season was. Not saying that doesn't make you a great fan, or a true fan...I just don't see the problem in being reminded. Perhaps it's similar to the situation of the Lions in Detroit. They have stated that are going to retire the number of the Corey D. Smith and certainly hang something on the Ford Field Facade. From my recollection and his mere 42 tackles and 3 sacks in 2008, Corey Smith wasn't a star by any means, yet if I have to be reminded, well.... It just goes to show that people do want to be reminded. It was certainly a tragedy (general description of the Brewers franchise from 82-07), but people want something to hang onto about that young kid irregardless of how much of a tragedy the situation was, irregardless of the fact that his death was caused by his own poor judgment or the judgment of his chosen peers, etc. I think organizations honor teams, individuals, seasons, eras, events, as a positive reminder, not a reminder of the failures of before. I don't need a reminder about the Lambeau Leap forum, but very similarly would you have a problem retiring Favre's number and hanging it on the facade? Is it a reminder of him losing the first ever playoff game(s) at Lambeau? His career record of throwing the most interceptions of any quarterback in NFL history? His early adult life struggles of addicition to drugs? Of course not, it's a celebration of winning a Super Bowl (albeit near 15 years go), a celebration of all his accomplishments. Let the Brewers banner stand for something positive in your heart, a reminder of the fun season of 2008 and not the failures of seasons past.
