  1. Here's Jim Caple's view, obviously not a positive one. Nor are the comments to this article. I'm not saying he was the best commissioner ever, but I just don't understand the absolute hatred of him and all he's done.
  2. The way I read it, it's $300/bar correct? I am a little confused because it specifically mentions how many shuttles one bar runs, and if it's $300/bus I think that's a different situation right there. I think $300/bar is reasonable at the very least, and am surprised they don't already have a system like that in place, $300/bus would be a different issue.
  3. ESPN's hatchet job on Mike Leach. I've never been a big fan of the guy, but holy cow comparing their reporting of the story to those from other sources it's shocking how one sided their reporting is.
  4. I'm amazed at how upset I am about this game. Not because the Bucks lost, but because I was beginning to get excited about them after swearing off the NBA for years. Tonight brought me back to why I swore off the NBA. I hate the fact that when my brother-in-law (an LA born and bred Lakers fan) says "you don't get that call against Kobe" he's right and it's not because it's the right call, it's because he's Kobe. There are two seperate sets of rules and the have-nots play by a stricter set of rules than the haves. I really want to like the Bucks and fight to keep them in town, but until the NBA figures out how to put a fair product on the floor I will try not to feel too invested.
  5. As my name indicates I lived in Alaska, Fairbanks actually. So feel free to ask whatever questions you have. I lived about 3-4 miles from campus in a cabin without running water. This sounds weird, I know, but you will become very familiar with the Cabin Dwellers once you are there. If you happen to have a car, don't be afraid to get a cabin, actually. They are a lot cheaper, and you have access to showers on campus. The Blue Loon is a popular bar near campus, they have decent bands on weekends, although I preferred the Pumphouse, oh and Silver Gulch Brewery has free taste tests on Friday night, it's a bit of a drive, but the beer is amazing. During the summer I recommend going to the Midnight Sun Baseball Game (get your tickets early), and the Anderson Bluegrass Festival (trust me on this one, it's amazing listening to live music in view of Denali). Honestly, shoot me a message with any questions, I may not know, but still have some friends up there who could help you out.
  6. One thing I would recommend is talking it through with her first. Find out what price-point she's comfortable with. My fiancée didn't want anything expensive for a couple of reasons. First off she doesn't like diamonds. Secondly anything over $200 we wanted to go into our "we want to buy a house" fund. If she wants a ring with a diamond that's great but find out if that's what is important to you guys and work through those issues. The ring I purchased is white gold with a tanzanite stone (because purple is her favorite color). She loves it, it set me back very little and we're thrilled. This isn't for everyone, but before you go purchase a ring talk these things through (if you haven't already).
  7. Wasn't it 2003? I thought when Marquette went on their Final Four run there was a chance that the Elite 8 was going to be MU UW until Kentucky beat UW in the sweet 16. I could be wrong, I was watching the game at a bar, and am currently quite drunk...
  8. I honestly don't think I can follow the Brewers anymore if Ned is going to be at the helm... I just don't think I canput myself through this anymore. So maybe he didn't like Jenkins' numbers against Dempster, he still has Counsell on the bench, and for as much as I don't like Counsell (especially in a starting role) he would know how to take a pitch from someone who had just walked in a run. Not only that but now my girlfriend (who lives out of state) pieced together that I was not "fully involved" in our phone conversation when I started screaming at the TV (apparently my language was very "colorful"). So not only does Yost screw up, he gets me in trouble with the girl. Edit: Grammar
  9. "I engaged in intercourse with your spouse or significant other... Now that's psychiatry!" For some reason this Homer quote always makes me laugh... a lot.
  10. I just moved back to Milwaukee, and that was an awesome show. Fireworks with lightning cracking behind them. Just cool to see. I am soaked, but it was worth it.
  11. I respectfully disagree with this. The bar is a business that sells intoxicating beverages, they know it is dangerous to drink and drive, and offered Hancock a cab, he declined. At that moment it became entirely personal responsibility. He chose to drive, drunk, on the phone, while speeding, without a seatbelt on. All of these things are known. We also know that the tow truck, at the very least had it's flashing yellow lights on, as well as it's hazards. I just don't see this as anything other than a bad choice by someone who, unfortunately, paid for it with is life.
  12. First off let me say I am biased about this, since I spent last Thanksgiving sitting in a hospital room with my girlfriend after she got plowed into by someone who blew a .24. So I have zero sympathy for anyone who chooses to drive drunk. So this is where I have the biggest problem. Now there is a chance that the bar is at some fault depending on Missouri law. However, what ever happened to personal responsibility? I have personally turned down more than a few free drinks because I knew I was driving later that night and I have many friends who have done the same. Heck even when I am drunk I know when to cut myself off, lest I puke, even if the drinks are free. So unless they stuck a funnel down his throat, and forced him to drink, the responsibility falls to him. Also about this quote: By doing a brief Google search I find this from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch : And this should be verifiable based on police reports (I am not saying it has been, but should be pretty easy to find out). Now as for exorbitant time, well if they called the police, maybe they were waiting for them to arrive before loading the car? I don't know, maybe (although with the statute posted I would be suprised) he has a case against the bar, but the tow truck, and owner of the car, that just seems like such a stretch it's sad.
  13. I leave for lunch with a 6-2 lead, come back just in time to hear the blown save. I feel sick to my stomach right now. How many blown saves in a row is this now?
