  1. Can I just add, Deadspin has been absolutely crushing it with their stories on this. Part of it is they hate everything ESPN does, and part of it is they're just good at putting sports in perspective IMO. I love their exclusive interview with MLB and MLBPA.
  2. He's owed $122 million and it appears that MLB's evidence showed that he was doping for an extended period of time. There is a good chance that he was doping all the way back to his time in college in Miami. If that is the case, it seems unlikely that he will be able to produce anywhere near the $15-20 million/year level that he will be paid for the rest of the decade. What GM would be crazy enough to take a $120 million risk on a known steroid user that is currently nearly universally despised within MLB? A trade isn't happening. I've seen a few people say something similar to the bolded part a few times. Did I miss a report indicating this, or is this an assumption based on the fact it's a 65 game suspension? I'm just curious.
  3. Here's my feeling on this whole thing. I am upset with Braun, largely because he lied. I honestly don't care that much about the PEDs, maybe I should, but I don't. I am upset because he decided to ignore the golden rule of damage control, which is the coverup is always worse than the crime. Truth be told he shouldn't have been in a position to cover anything up, but he was and he tried. It was dumb. If I'm honest with myself, I'll cheer for him again. It won't be the same, and he has fallen off my list of favorite Brewers, but I'll definitely cheer for him. I do feel bad for the collector as well. Not because of what Braun said (although if you look at my first point I don't think Braun should have said it), but because, like Braun, the collector should not have been in the public consciousness at all. Like it or not the guy screwed up at his job, he made a mistake which got Braun off. Call it a technicality of you like, but the guy did screw up. It sucks. I'm glad when I screw up at work only a handful of people know, and honestly that's how it should have been for this guy. Unfortunately for him, he got stuck in the middle of a national story, and his mistake became the focal point. This is yet another reason that the confidentiality needs to be in place in this whole process, but I digress. I wish things had panned out differently, but if he was going to get suspended I guess this is the best scenario for it to happen.
  4. Here's my question. I was too young to notice, but were there similar complaints about unfairness when the AL had 14 teams and the NL had 12 teams during the late '70's through the '91 season? I know the leagues were set up differently back then, but I am just curious.
  5. You can't assume the same exact results would have happened given an out in that situation. A double play after an out could have kept the inning scoreless... Pujols could have hit it out on the first pitch. The fact is, Yo was pitching terribly and the Cardinals batted around. Kotsay shouldn't be in that situation to run down the ball... Yo should have kept it down to get a ground ball, not a hard hit to the gap... and you should trust in your 'ace' enough that a single run-down in centerfield isn't the difference in the game. I would rather have Gomez, but who knows, Gomez has had some bone-head base-running moves and defensive plays against the Cardinals this year too. I think the pitching match-ups were great in the end, and he put the team in good position to succeed. He put the matchups in to give the brewers 8 scoreless innings, despite everyone complaining about Narveson in the 8th. I think Yo was too concerned that a ball hit anywhere was going to result in it going to the wall, so he tried to get too fine. Had Gomez been in there to make the play in the first with Jay, I honestly think Yo settles down a bit, realizes he doesn't have to be perfect and is OK. I really think that one play is potentially the difference in this game. Who knows if I'm right, but at the very least it saves one run, and probably more.
  6. This is why I hate LaRussa. There is nothing in that quote to be upset about, but he needs to find something to take an affront to. I mean, all he said is "I think this is why some of my teammates have a problem with this guy." Greinke never really says he agrees, just what he thinks his teammates feel. Man I want to beat these guys.
  7. Also did anyone notice top of the ninth when Axford came out Lucroy was standing on the mound waiting for him. Lucroy was the only player on the field and was just waiting for him, I don't know why, but that to me was just awesome to see, it just another sign that he really is taking a leading role on this team.
  8. l don't know what was more amazing about that interview, Tony LaRussa complaining about two different strike zones (which from what I could see was completely wrong) or Bob Brenley basically saying "I don't disagree with you." I thought LaRussa was a huge whiner before that but that took it to a new level.
  9. As Vin Scully kept pointing out, all this because the pitcher didn't cover first on the infield hit with two outs. That was painful and yet amazing all at once. Edit: misspelled Scully.
  10. I don't think the "Marlins" is the font that will actually be used, I think that is generic placeholder, like you would see on a "Property of Milwaukee Brewers" type shirt. I would bet that the actual word mark will actually use a font somewhat similar to the M used in the logo. All that said, I like the two parts of the logo independently, but they seem forced when put together. If they use the two aspects of the logo independently, then it has the potential to be a cool uniform set.
  11. I'm glad someone else is thinking this. I've been terrified of this since the picture was taken. Here's hoping the mojo turns soon.
  12. Obviously it's hard to say how Corey would know this, but this quote is a glimmer of hope, I suppose, "We're more than teammates, so it's tough to see a friend (go down)," Hart said. "But it's not a season-ending thing, so hopefully it's a few weeks and he can come back and step right back and do what he's been doing." http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/126298738.html
  13. Here's my completely uneducated opinion on Rickie's ankle, it's either a sever season ending, or near season ending sprain, Achilles or other injury, or it's one of those things which looks absolutely awful on camera but does no damage and he's back in a day or two. There is really no middle ground on this one I think. Like one of those horrendous football plays, but the guy is back later in the game. There is actually a still image of my ankle doing something similar when I was playing basketball once. I went up for a rebound, came down on a teammate's foot, and rolled my ankle far enough to actually bruise the skin where the ankle comes out a bit (I don't know the term). Anyway, it hurt like crazy for about 2 hours, it swelled a little, then everything seemed to calm down. Within 2 days I was back out playing basketball. Now I am in no way saying this is an identical situation, that I was going as hard as Rickie, or that this is exactly what it is. I will say that sometimes the body will contort in ways that look absolutely awful, but not be as damaged as one would guess, or at least that is what I am telling myself right now.
  14. After watching Coshun on the game today, he struck me as someone who would be a better radio announcer. I don't know why, but with TV (despite there being pictures) it's nice to have a consistent back and forth between the announcers, on the radio I like to hear the ambient ballpark noises, and Coshun often seemed to allow those sounds to come through. Some of that may be a lack of chemistry with Rock, but it reminds me a little of what Ernie Harwell, Vin Scully and Uke do sometimes (not that he is anywhere near there level, just a similar style), just let the sounds of the game speak for themselves. I don't like that on TV, but love it on the radio. I have no idea if I'm making any sense, but that was my feeling on Coshun. Also Brian Anderson has definitely grown on me a lot. I know we'll get a solid replacement for him if he leaves, but I kinda hope that Anderson/Schoeder can become the Brewers equivalent of the Bucks Paschke/McGlocklin booth. A long term pair of announcers that just know each other, and play off each other.
  15. Growing up Ernie and Uke were the voices of summer in my house. My dad was always a Tigers fan and my sister was the Brewers die-hard (and the reason I am a Brewers fan), and living on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan we could get TMJ and were well within about the range of about 3 stations carrying the Tigers. I always remember working in the backyard with my dad Tigers game on the radio, and him pausing for important pitches and plays. Ernie just had a way about calling the game that made you feel like it was a friend talking to you about what was going on. It was just very warm. Summer in Michigan just wasn't the same when he retired, but Ernie was an integral part of my childhood, and one of the reasons I am the baseball fan I am.
  16. They're conceding games when down 4-0 with 4 innings to play? That seems a little early. Even conceding a run in that situation doesn't take the team out of it, but 5 runs sure does.
  17. How does Macha still have a job? Why would you use Suppan in this situation? I know the bullpen is gassed, but you put Villy or Coffey, or even Hawkins out there in that situation. I would only put Suppan out there with no inherited runners, he has a hard enough time getting the batters he faces out. The only thing that is keeping me from losing my mind right now is the knowledge that tomorrow night I will be at the Bradley Center hopefully watching the Bucks eliminate the Hawks. If it weren't for that I don't think I would be in good shape right now.
  18. Why wasn't Braun running on contact there? Is there something I'm missing?
  19. In my ideal world, there is more revenue sharing, and a floor, but not necessarily a ceiling. Basically if the payroll of a major league roster of a team doesn't equal the floor, they get no more money back than their team generated. So if the Marlins want to run a team with a $25 million payroll, that's fine, but they don't get anything other than their own local revenue back. Therefore if a smaller market team feels they can make money this way, they can go for it, but the Yankees and Red Sox of the world can't complain about a team lining their pockets with revenue sharing money. Although, honestly I think that in 10-15 years this debate will be moot, because by then a lot of people will be getting their baseball through the Internet, which Bud was smart enough to get as shared revenue. Heck, if it weren't for the blackouts I would shell out $200 a season for Brewers and $200 more for the Bucks and cancel my cable tomorrow. I think(hope) soon enough I will be able to do this.
  20. Can someone tell me what the largest run differential is for a three game series in Brewers history? We're getting close at this point aren't we?
  21. Am I the only one not getting sound on Fox Sports Wisconsin? I have Uverse, and everything else has sound, just not FSN?
  22. I got an email about this, and found a link for it on a Marquette message board: http://grfx.cstv.com/phot...pdf/WesMatthewsBucks.pdf[/url] It may be something to look into if you have any connection whatsoever to MU.
  23. I know I'm late to the game, but will just add my $.02, although you can decide if it's worth it. I lived in Boise for about a year, and loved it. I only left to be closer to home. Downtown is much better than I expected in terms of going out. There are a lot of fun bars, and more single women than I was expecting. Boise is surprisingly large (around 500,000 in the whole area) and has all the amenities one would normally need. Also if I hadn't moved there from Alaska I would have been shocked by the amount of outdoor activities. The foothills to the Rockies are literally in the city limits, with some amazing hikes in town. Bogus Basin is very nice skiing, and even has lights (a rarity out west), and the Boise River cuts through town and is good for flat water kayaking and rafting, the Snake River nearby offers some amazing whitewater rafting and kayaking if you want to give it a try. My buddy and I went down it on glorified surfboards at one point, but through a section with nothing more than Class III rapids. I don't know much about Austin, but have to imagine it's a great city, I just doubt it offers the range of outdoor activities as close to town as does Boise. Austin probably has a better nightlife, but again, Boise's is pretty good in it's own right. If you have any questions feel free to message me, I would be happy to help.
  24. I went to a game there last year. It's easy to get there on the Metro, I got tickets from a scalper and got a really good deal on them. The fans I sat by were super nice, but the atmosphere reminded me of the attitude at Miller Park circa 2003, fans know the team is bad, try to have a good time anyway, but there is just this air of despair over all the fans. I thought the park was very nice, but found the PA announcer beyond annoying. When I went they were playing Toronto in interleague play I think, but ran across no fewer than 15 other Brewers fans wearing Brewers gear, which I found amusing. Overall I liked it.
  25. It appears that Selig agrees with this stance as well. The Cubs are not going to win any fans with this concept. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/84623022.html
