  1. If you pitch the last 3 innings of the game with a lead, regardless of how big the lead is, you get the save. You may remember that Brian Shouse recorded a 3-inning save earlier in the year in a blowout win over the Twins.
  2. Oh wow, they're wearing the road grays tonight. Looks like they're avoiding the alternate blues altogether. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Edit: News from Brewers Live -- Corey Hart is a scratch tonight, suffering from a bruised elbow after getting hit with that pitch yesterday in the 9th. Joe Dillon moves into LF while Mench moves over to RF. I think I like seeing Dillon in the 2 hole.
  3. Hey, Yo! I like this pitching matchup...let's get a quality start from Yo and for crying out loud, be patient with DD pitching.
  4. If Jermaine Dye got that, I shudder to think what Geoff Jenkins would get on the open market. Deals like this make me think the Brewers might just pick up Jenkins' option, since it'll practically be league average salary for his position soon.
  5. It'd be awesome if Sheets could get back in time for the Cubs series...I really hope the rehab start today goes well today.
  6. If the Brewers decline Jenkins' option but get him back at a discounted price, I think he could have a shot at Yount's HR record, but even then it'd take 2-3 years.
  7. Hardy's been hitting really well out of the 8 spot, Shouse has been amazingly good in pressure situations (so good that I'm fearing that he'll have to come back down to earth on this road trip), Billy Hall has started to hit better, Jenkins is white hot, and Rickie was making solid contact for most of the Cincy series. I might be one of the few, but I like the pitching matchups in the Arizona series -- Yo vs. Dougie, Bush vs. Livan Hernandez, Suppan vs. Webb. The Webb game is the only matchup where I'd give the Diamondbacks a clear advantage as far as starters go. The starting pitching has been decent enough the past few games, though, that I'm not too worried about that -- the bullpen needs to do a better job of holding leads considering that Arizona has one of the better bullpens in the NL. Late runs will be hard to come by, so the Brewers will probably have to score their runs against the starters. As long as the Brewers don't limp into Chicago, I'm not going to get too worried.
  8. It's 5-2 Brewers in the bottom of the 4th.
  9. Whoops. Adam Dunn is pretty good. 2 runs isn't a big deal, though...Cappy's looked good so far.
  10. Stupid Brewers, winning tonight so we have less to complain about. How are we supposed to have a vent thread if the Brewers win? Bums.
  11. Whoops...my mistake, then. Still having a heckuva day against Clemens today, though.
  12. Making his debut this afternoon in Yankee Stadium, Maybin collects his first Major League hit off of Roger Clemens in his first at-bat and then hits a home run off The Rocket in his second AB. Wow. Talk about a way to start a career...both your first hit and your first home run come off the best pitcher of this generation. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  13. For the Mariners, I think King Felix, J.J. Putz, and Adam Jones would do the trick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Verlander, Andrew Miller, Zumaya, and Maybin. Kill 4 birds with one stone. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Verlander adds a power arm to the rotation, Miller is a lefty and has a power arm, Zumaya's the cheap future closer, and Maybin takes over in CF while Hall moves to third. This is definitely a fun thread. He could be yours, Cubs fans, for the low-low price of Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez, Murton, and Marmol. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif
  15. Burrell is destined to be a DH. The guy is an OBP machine with decent power still, but he is horrible in the field and is slow as molasses on the basepaths. If the Brewers were allowed to use a DH again, I'd take a look at him, otherwise I'd pass.
  16. Hey, at least the other teams are realizing how many bounces are going their way lately.
  17. Even after all of this, a Brewers win and a Cubs loss today puts the Brewers back in first place...hard to believe, huh? I still think if this team can keep its head above water (1-2 games within first place) until Sheets returns, they'll be fine in September. At least the past couple of nights we've seen better pitching performances from the starters...Bush had a good enough start to deserve a win in the Cardinals series finale and Suppan pitched pretty well last night considering the horrible defense he had behind him. Cut down on the errors and this team might actually start winning some games.
  18. I'm not blaming the fans for the team playing like crap...I just wish the fans would show a little more interest in the game, otherwise you're just drinking beer you paid way too much for in a seat you paid way too much for and acting like a Cub fan. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif I don't expect the fans at the game to treat every play like it's do-or-die...I just wish home games felt more like home games like they were earlier in the season, even when the team was struggling in June. It seems like even boos lately have been lacking much feeling, but maybe that's just me. The defense tonight definitely stunk...at least Yost's press conference should be fun. I'm wondering how long it takes Yost to punch a reporter.
  19. While the Brewers haven't exactly given the fans much to cheer about this homestand, I think the intensity of the crowd has been pretty pathetic this homestand -- even in the first inning when the Brewers start with a clean slate the crowd just seems out of it. Nothing like playing home games that feel like road games.
  20. If I remember correctly, the Cubs were briefly ahead of the Brewers a little while ago, when they were percentage points ahead of the Brewers in the standings...they were only a couple percentage points ahead, though. Getting blown out in the Cardinals series really threw the Brewers' run differential out of whack, and that's done a lot of damage to the Brewers' playoff chances in the BP Odds report. The PECOTA-adjusted report is a little nicer to the Brewers, but still heavily favors the Cubs.
  21. How's this for a silver lining? If this keeps up, Ned Yost might snap and kill Tom Haudricourt in a murderous rage one of these days. That way, Ned could be relieved from his managing duties for a little while and we wouldn't have to read Chicken Little Haudricourt's "The Sky is Falling!" drivel. Two birds with one stone. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Seriously, though, there's still a month and a half to play. If the Brewers can remain near first place through the rest of August, I still like their chances in September. IMO, the guys that the Brewers would call up in September are better than the guys the Cubs and Cardinals would call up. The depth of September is something this team really needs right now.
  22. Stinks that the offense wastes a good start from Dave Bush, but it's looking like Turnbow decided to put the game out of reach anyway. Yikes. Ugly series.
  23. It doesn't matter how you get into the playoffs, just that you get there. I keep telling myself this, even though it gets hard when Joel Piniero is throwing a 3-hitter into the 7th inning. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  24. Well, the fact that Prince had to be restrained, then walked around the people trying to restrain him while pointing at the ump and telling him to make love with himself probably didn't help Prince's case that he was baited. This news was pretty much expected, so I'm not too horribly upset. He'll end up doing something similar to what Derrek Lee did and appeal for a month before finally serving the suspension during a series that doesn't have a ton of playoff implications. If his appeal is miraculously heard before September 1st and he ends up having to serve the suspension, Joe Dillon can fill in for a few games. If it doesn't happen until September, you could probably play Hart at first and go with Gwynn or Gross in RF for a few games.
  25. I'm worried a bit about the SF/AZ series, mostly because of pitching match-ups. I'd really like to miss Brandon Webb if at all possible in the AZ series, and Matt Cain still scares me even though he's gotten no run support this year. Maybe I'm just jittery because it was the SF/AZ road trip that was pretty much the beginning of the end last year with one of Turnbow's really, really bad runs (the little dribbler walk off for SF, Estrada's walkoff HR for AZ, etc.). It'll definitely be a tight race down the stretch...I don't see either team pulling too far ahead. I'd be surprised if either the Cubs or Brewers got a 2-3 game lead at any point during the race.
