  2. No particular order, but these are the guys that I could never see myself rooting for: - Carlos Zambrano - Aramis Ramirez - Barry Bonds - Derek Jeter - Roger Clemens And other guys that just annoy me because of their tendencies to kill the Brewers: - Jack Wilson - David Eckstein - Javier Valentin - Juan Pierre - Byung-Hyung Kim - Jason Marquis (even before he became a Cub)
  3. The O's have a pretty loyal following, but many have stopped actually going to the games as a protest until Peter Angelos finally sells the team.
  4. I'd settle for 2-2 since they never seem to play well in St. Louis, but I'll definitely take 3-1 if the Cards are willing to give that to the Brewers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Here's to hoping the Reds stay hot, while we're at it.
  5. It seems to me like fans and players/managers view rough stretches very differently. Players will say that getting visibly upset and throwing stuff around is probably the worst thing you could do during a bad series/week/month, while fans practically demand it. It's not that the players and managers don't care, it's just that they probably have more confidence in things working themselves out than the rest of us do. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. Before this series, the Reds also spanked around a fairly good Braves team. They're playing some good baseball right now, even against other teams than the Brewers. Losing the series stinks, but a new one starts tomorrow.
  7. To be fair, though, Corey Hart was pretty bad in CF, too.
  8. Jul 30, 2003: Oakland Athletics traded Aaron Harang, Jeff Bruksch and Joe Valentine to the Cincinnati Reds for Jose Guillen. Crap...Hart K's again.
  9. Wow...I love it when Turnbow proves my worries wrong. Let's win this thing already and pick up a free .5 of a game on the Cubs.
  10. I like Costas, but he can get a bit preachy at times. I was surprised that he was as blunt as he was with his statements (not that I disagree, I'd just expect someone like Costas to veil his comments a little more). I was fine with it at first, but he kept going on and on about it and it grew a little tiring. Reminded me of this year's All-Star Game when Joe Buck spent a full inning telling fans how they should feel about the Steroid Era.
  11. It's been almost a full year since Rickie's wrist injury, and the Brewers have been saying all along it'd be almost a full year before he would be fully recovered. He was a lot of fun to watch in this series, and hopefully he keeps it up on the road. While I didn't like the idea of Rickie getting "benched," it looks like it lit a bit of a fire under him since he's been playing with incredible intensity lately. Only a matter of time before we see him start launching HR's into Big Mac Land again. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  13. Byrnes wants Gary Matthews Jr. money, and the Diamondbacks would be stupid to give it to him with the wealth of outfield talent they have in their system. The D'Backs have about as much outfield talent in the minors as the Brewers had infield talent in the minors a year or two ago (before the current crew came up). Also, while the Diamondbacks' record isn't bad and they could be considered a "playoff contender," they look like they've been incredibly lucky this year...their Pythagorean Record is actually below .500, IIRC. BP has them at only a 4% chance at making the playoffs...I could see them trading Byrnes away to an AL team just to get something in return. I doubt he'd be a Type A FA, so he wouldn't net them two first rounders as incentive to keep him all year.
  14. I'm pretty sure that was Benoit. Benoit was also the guy who, earlier in the year, struck out back-to-back Angels on pitches that caused the bats to go flying into the dugout. He's got some nasty stuff, it's just an issue of control.
  15. I don't see him outpitching Claudio Vargas...at this point in Livan's career, that's probably as good as he could possibly be. Like mlbtraderumors said, he's not going to go 7-8 innings consistently anymore. Claudio's cheaper and already on our team, so it'd make more sense to hang onto Vargas and avoid Hernandez, IMO.

  17. Coaches get way too much credit when things go well and way too much blame when things go wrong. I think Maddux is an above average pitching coach, but he's not a miracle worker. He can tell the pitchers anything he can to try to get them to improve, but in the end, it's up to the pitcher to do well. It's not Maddux's fault that Capuano nibbled way too much coming off the DL (excluding his most recent start), or that Claudio Vargas has to get baserunners on before he gets anyone out, or that Suppan's not fooling many people this year. Mechanics haven't really been an issue this year -- execution has, and I don't think Maddux has much control over that.
  18. Arizona strands the bases loaded. What a horrible team with RISP...and I thought the Brewers were bad.
  19. The Giants had 21 baserunners. Only 8 of them scored...success!
  20. HOLY CRAP WEEKS RAN OVER THE CATCHER! Can't say he's not playing hard, can you?
  21. Looks like Mench is on the Braun Defensive Plan...botch a play on D and drive in a run in your next AB.
  22. Ugly half inning right there. Answer with a run and it'll all be forgotten.
  23. There was a time when the Diamondbacks intentionally walked Bonds with the bases already loaded in the bottom of the 9th to prevent him from hitting an extra base hit. They lucked out when the next guy lined out to end the game. I'm not sure if that happened on Brenley's watch or if that was Buck Showalter.
  24. Rickie's sure playing a lot for someone who's supposed to be "benched." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif This reminds me of Hardy getting benched a couple years ago and Jenkins getting benched last year. I'm all for getting as many right-handed bats in the lineup against a lefty, though, so no complaints here.
  25. IIRC, Loretta signed with Houston because they were the only team that could promise him a starting spot sometime during the year (once Biggio hit 3,000 hits, they were going to start Loretta at 2B). Like Cirillo, I think Lo would have been put off by the speculated lack of at-bats this year. Who knew that Weeks wasn't as far along in his recovery and Graffy/Counsell would be getting so many ABs? With that said, if the Brewers are convinced that Weeks won't be of any use at all for the rest of the year, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Loretta. I'd probably take a healthy Weeks over Loretta, but that doesn't look like Weeks is going to be healthy for another month or two IMO.
