  3. DOUBLE PLAY! Alright! Now let's avoid the 2-out voodoo that seems to be against Cappy.
  4. Yost bashing starting in the Vent Thread in 3...2...1.... Come up big here, Cappy. The guys need you. Then again, throwing him out there when the strike zone is about the size of a peanut probably won't end well.
  5. Damn...sucks that they couldn't do anything with Damian's leadoff single. Braun's had a pretty bad road trip...getting back home should be good for him.
  6. Wow, Cub fans just might hate Jason Kendall more than Brewers fans hate Johnny Estrada. They're really ripping into him for that double steal last inning.
  7. Tie game again! Nice sac fly Mench. Maybe we need to keep Mench around as a Cub Killer.
  8. Wow...must've lost that one in the lights. Looks like Hart could've used sunglasses at night. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. The best thing is that Alfonso Soriano's going to be a Cub for what, 6 more years? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Edit: Very nice first inning for Manny.
  10. Bases loaded for Damian...nice eye, Billy. I was totally expecting a 3-2 K there. 34 pitches for Lilly.
  11. Kill another lefty, Mench...it's the sole reason you were put on this Earth.
  12. RICKIE LEADOFF HOMER! How's that for a start!? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Kevin Mench. Goofy looking, unpredictable defense, slow on the bases, won't take a walk, mashes lefties, and a little bit of unmet expectations.
  14. Too many key players are still under (cheap) contracts for next season. Estrada's not going anywhere, as much as we'd like him to...as much as we hate his approach, isn't he pretty cheap considering he's over league average production for catchers? Turnbow's locked into a contract for next year, so he'll be back. I think there's a fair chance the at least attempt to re-sign Linebrink. Left field will probably be covered by Gabe Gross and a cheap lefty killer next year to replace Menchkins (while Mench does his job well, he gets paid way too much to do it). Rotation spots vacated by Vargas and maybe Capuano if you can find a taker in a trade this season will be taken care of in-house. I do worry, though, that firing Yost and replacing him with another guy will lead to a "transition year" where the Brewers just tread water while "getting used to" their new manager. Considering how quickly Hardy-Braun-Fielder are going to get expensive, I'd rather not waste a year transitioning from one manager to another. If you're going to fire Yost, you better be damn sure he's going to have more impact on this team than Yost already does, otherwise 2008 is going to end up being a wasted year.
  15. I believe Vargas was scheduled for Wednesday and Gallardo for Thursday if Ben wasn't ready, but with the news coming out about Vargas' injury, I think it's pretty doubtful that he makes his start. Considering how horrible the Cubs are against lefties, I wouldn't be surprised if Manny Parra or Chris Capuano started in Vargas' place.
  16. Wow, short tenure for Pupura -- he was hired in November of 2004, and didn't really do much. His biggest moves were probably bringing in Clemens and later Lee, but the biggest trade he put together was Ben Zobrist and Mitch Talbot for Aubrey Huff. I remember Astros fans were always complaining more about Pupura's inactivity rather than the moves he actually made. I know Astros fans who were extremely tired of Phil Garner starting in the year after they reached the World Series, and this probably comes as welcome news to them. One of the biggest complaints about Garner the past couple years was that he basically refused to take Craig Biggio out of the leadoff spot when he probably shouldn't even be playing every day. Scrap Iron didn't seem to be too fond of the younger players in Houston, which rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. While I'm not a Fire Yost guy, if they were to fire him, I would sure hope that they did it because they knew they could get an improvement fairly easily. Phil Garner wouldn't be an improvement, IMO.
  17. Just keep hitting it at Barry Bonds and you'll keep scoring runs.
  18. Good news -- Menchy drove in Braun. Bad news -- he threw the bat at ball 4 and got lucky. With Fielder out of the lineup, though, I can't get picky about how runs score.
  19. Hey, Braun lives...there's some good news. Billy in the cleanup spot makes me sad, though.
  20. I was watching the Cubs on WGN this afternoon, and they were talking about how apparently the Cubs like that Monroe can play all 3 OF positions. I guess that could explain the move, but at the same time, couldn't Jacque Jones, Felix Pie, or even Alfonso Soriano when he gets back play all 3 OF positions? I'm not complaining too much, though...I'm in favor of any panic move the Cubs make without thinking twice. Didn't they almost trade for Scott Podsednik a week or two ago?
  21. This morning ESPN did some conversion work and figured out that to match a similar offensive output, an NFL team would have to score something like 113 points and an NBA team would have to score over 600 points. That's just incredible.
  22. Cabrera 5 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 4 K Burres 0.2 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 1 BB, 1 K Bell 1.1 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 1 K Shuey 1.2 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, 3 BB, 5 K Yikes. Looks like the Orioles just let the pitchers take their lumps considering there's another game tonight. 30 runs is the most runs scored in a Major League game since 1900.
  23. The first two games of this series are reminding me of the ending of Happy Gilmore when Happy says to Shooter McGavin "Happy learned how to putt....uh oh!" This is like the Brewers are telling the Cubs "The Brewers learned how to win on the road...uh oh!" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Maybe not, but it definitely feels good to see this team win a road series against one the NL's hottest teams.
  24. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5073074.html It sounds like Griffin had a problem with alcoholism, but they won't know for sure if he was drunk until they get the tests back. While he was a troubled guy, it's sad to see anyone die that young.
  25. I'd say it's between Prince and Mark Teixeira, who's been ridiculously hot since going to Atlanta.
