  1. Tough watching the Cubs like this...I'd much rather beat them in a division race when they're fully healthy, but they set themselves up for a season like this with a bunch of offseason moves that killed their depth and roster flexibility. Their lineup tonight was just horrific: LF Soriano SS Theriot RF Bradley CF Johnson C Soto 1B Hoffpauir 3B Freel 2B Miles P Dempster
  2. BILL HALL WINS BALLGAMES! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Way to redeem yourself, Billy. Feels great to steal one with the one Carp was pitching.
  3. Let's go guys, it'd be great to steal this one. Let's untuck 'em on a walkoff. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Bummer. Hopefully the Cards have one more 0 in them for the top of the 9th and we can win this one walkoff style. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Cameron's the only one that's been able to get consistent contact on Carpenter all afternoon. Let's get him in, guys.
  6. Well, Tony, with the perfect game gone, why don't you rest that ace of yours? Can't risk him getting hurt by running him out there for another inning... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. I think he mentioned it a couple times in the 5th inning. I guess the good news in Carpenter's situation is that if it goes on for much longer La Russa will have to make a tough decision on sticking to the pitch count or letting him finish the job.
  8. This game could get really interesting in an inning or two if things keep going the way they've been going for both teams.
  9. Every time there's a rocket up the middle at Yo I hold my breath. I love that he's nabbing those, though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Good old-fashioned pitching duel today. This one might be done by 3. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. I have to say that I like last year's Patriot model better than this year's, but maybe because it's always weird seeing them wearing red hats with a blue color scheme. I think baseball would be better off letting teams keep the color of their caps, but modifying the logos with the stars and stripes like they've been doing. I've wanted the blue stars and stripes model since seeing it last year, but didn't feel like shelling out the $35 for it. Just keep doing what you've been doing against the Cards, guys.
  12. And Morneau never should've gotten to hit. Beautiful. Let's just get the heck out of Minneapolis.
  13. I'd be willing to bet that Hall is only playing because Hardy's hurting, otherwise one of Counsell or McGehee would be playing third. Macha said he doesn't think Hardy's going to play tomorrow, either, but at least Gamel won't be tied into the DH role. As far as not being able to do much against Baker, he's still a good pitcher. ESPN showed graphics multiple times tonight explaining how his rough start has been do to running into one really bad inning in each of his starts, but he's been fine other than those innings. He's the same guy who went something like 11-4 with a mid-3 ERA last year in the AL -- I wouldn't put it at the same level of frustration as the Swarzak start, but maybe that's just me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Like Russ said, still plenty of time to steal this one if they can keep the Twins from tacking on anymore runs.
  14. I'm fine with what Cam Boogie did with that high one. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Too bad Prince hit into that double play right before that...would've been sweet to have the lead right now. Congrats to Cam on #250.
  15. Interesting stuff is actually being discussed on an ESPN broadcast. Amazing what a broadcast without Joe Morgan can be like. Unfortunately, Joe Mauer looks like he's going to hit .500 this season. Any doubt he'll be the AL player of the month?
  16. I only have two requests tonight -- please start hitting before the 8th inning, and please don't get embarrassed on national television. Let's get a win before going home and kicking more Cardinal butt. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. I'll agree with those who say it might end up helping the Cubs in the long run...Harden probably wouldn't have been able to be as effective down the stretch if he pitched a full season, so at the very least this keeps his arm fresh for a little while longer. Wells is still pitching pretty well for them in his absence, and once Harden gets back they'll have a hard time keeping Wells out of the rotation...he may end up bumping Sean Marshall to the pen. As for the bats, they haven't been able to develop hitting prospects for awhile now, and it'll continue until Vitters gets up to the higher levels. The good news from their perspective is that they'll be able to go out and buy veterans whenever their current players need to be replaced. That's in limbo right now as the ownership situation is up in the air, but once the sale is completed (anytime between July and Christmas, from what I've heard), they'll be able to go back to their big-spending ways. I think everyone realizes that Derrek Lee's on his way out already, it's just matter of Hendry and Piniella realizing this and giving more time to Hoffpauier and maybe bringing up Jake Fox until they can get someone else to fill that void.
  18. Jeez...you can't help but wonder if the Twins can get any luckier at this point. Crede got eaten up on that play and they still find a way to get that out. At least the shutout's gone thanks to Prince.
  19. I love the leg kick on that Trevor Hoffman bobblehead. Too bad I won't be able to get down to MP on the 31st to get one.
  20. Well, if Mauer hits that pitch out, you know things aren't going your way and the Twins are swinging the bats ridiculously well. Not much you can do about that, and at least it seems like the rest of the NL always stinks against the AL, no matter how crappy the AL teams are. The Twins are better than their record, too...Mauer just got back at the start of the month and they've been playing better since he got back. Their record looks bad because of that string of three or four straight walk-off losses to the Yankees, who were in the middle of like a 9 game win streak. I fully expect the Twins to end up winning their division.
  21. It'd sure be nice to win today, since the Cards already beat the Royals and would move into a first place tie with a Brewers loss. Looks like Looper's been the beneficiary of a couple double play balls already...hopefully he can keep them on the ground and the Brewers can string together a few hits to push some runs across soon.
  22. My view on the annual crappy interleague performances: at least most of the other teams in the NL also struggle. Hell, the Cubs lost to the Padres last night and just had another important player land on the DL. It's a long season and this team has set itself up extremely well to weather a few bumps in the road. It was a crappy loss, sure, but Cuddyer just had one of those nights where he was crushing everything in sight. Take his performance out of the mix and it's only a 6-3 loss. The Twins are just swinging hot bats right now...even Gallardo would've gotten roughed up if he had to face this lineup right now, and after lucking into a couple wins in Houston, they were probably due to get kicked around a little. Dust yourselves off and start over in the second game.
  23. Don't think they needed the A/C blowing out to push that one over the fence...what a bomb. Hopefully they can jump on Slowey and get back into this. Things looked bleak early last night, too.
  24. I see Fox Sports is cutting costs by mashing the two pre-game shows together. Not really a fan of it since they can't really get as in-depth as they usually do, but I guess I can't blame them for shaking it up a bit. Here's to seeing another inside-the-park HR from Prince tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. I think the beginning started a little while ago...he's probably speeding towards the end by now, especially if the rumors that part of the reason why Peavy shot down the trade is because he wouldn't be comfortable playing for Ozzie Guillen. Judging by the way Guillen's belittled his pitchers during mound visits in the past, I can't say that would surprise me. Part of my (most likely the cynical part) thinks that Kenny Williams hasn't fired him yet because he knows that as soon as Ozzie's gone, the blame goes to him if the team still can't win. And he probably knows as well as anyone that his team is a long way from repeating any of the success they had in 2005.
