  1. It'd be great if Manny could get his WHIP to start heading towards 1 instead of 2. Bonifacio is quickly getting close to being added to my Least Favorite Players list.
  2. Castro's advice for Parra, apparently: "Throw strikes!" That's why pitching coaches make the big bucks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hopefully he'll be helped a bit by Florida's tendency to strike out.
  3. Hard finding a picture of Koronka in a Marlins uniform -- he's making his first start since 2007 as a replacement for Anibal Sanchez. He used to be with the Rangers, so this is also his first start in the National League if I'm not mistaken. Kendall is the only Brewer with any previous ABs against him. Hopefully the Brewers can figure him out and hit him hard early...I guess with this lineup it's better to face an unknown lefty than an unknown righty.
  4. A lot of power in that Marlins lineup, even if they've been struggling lately. Hopefully Manny can keep it in the park tonight. I can edit the graphics into your original post, Gorman.
  5. Brenly's just doing his job as an announcer to pander to his audience. Brian and Bill do the same thing just as often, but we probably don't pick up on it as much. Brenly probably thinks that Cubs fans will get a kick out of a bunch of cheese-eating and fat jokes. We get a kick out of 1908 and Pink Hat Fan jokes. We both get a kick out of Cards fans calling themselves the best fans in baseball. It happens with every announcing team, and like it was mentioned earlier in the thread, at the start of the year Brenly mentioned how gracious he was for the chance to interview for the job, but things didn't work out the way he wanted. I seriously doubt there are sour grapes there...just an attempt at playful ribbing with a rival.
  6. Can anyone say Braun's clean? Given the start of his career, it wouldn't be out of the question. Not that I'm accusing him of anything...it just really stinks that thoughts like that can creep in when news like this comes out.
  7. Wow...absolutely devastating news. He was one of those guys that MLB was likely counting on to be one of their "clean" guys. Sure, he's been eccentric in the past and his behavior might've caused headaches, but I don't ever recall his name being brought up before. If A-Rod is dirty and Manny is busted, who do we go to as the best pure hitter of this generation? Pujols? Is anyone sure he's clean, too? As dumb as Manny acts, you had to figure he's at least smart enough to avoid taking something that would get him suspended. I wonder what his excuse is, and it's likely the only reason we're hearing about the suspension now is because he appealed it and the appeal was denied.
  8. Not sure if you meant for the Crew or for the NL, but for the Brewers, here are the splits so far: #8 -- .213/.298/.258/.557 #9 -- .176/.239/.259/.498 I chuckled a bit when I noticed the pitchers have a higher SLG than the 8th spot (usually Kendall), even if it is only one point.
  9. Still don't like seeing Counsell hit so high in the order, but I guess it beats having Counsell-Kendall-Suppan to round out the bottom third. Not like it matters, anyway. Macha could start the Nashville Sounds and still win against Pittsburgh. In all seriousness, I think the streak ends tonight. Hopefully I'm wrong, but this is just getting ridiculous!
  10. I haven't been able to find Woogie's pitcher graphics the past few games, so I substituted in a couple pictures from the respective players' Yahoo! Sports profiles. For those that want the stats: Jeff Suppan (1-2, 5.88 ERA) vs. Ian Snell (1-3, 3.72 ERA) The Brewers are 14-12, 3 games behind division leading St. Louis. The Pirates are 12-13 and 4.5 games back.

  12. A week or so away from finishing my junior year of college. Where the heck did the past three years of my life go?
  13. I've got a couple friends at Madison, and they say it's not an accurate portrayal at all. They say it only represents the small part of the student body they call "coasties" -- the out-of-staters that only really applied because of the school's party reputation. I've never seen the show myself, but I imagine it's produced in much the same way all of their other fake reality shows are.
  14. The Pittsburgh announcers can't seem to figure out how BABIP is different than batting average. Neither one can legitimately figure it out. My appreciation for Brian and Bill will continue to grow in every game this series. Edit: Wow, glad to see I wasn't the only one that was speechless when it came to that.
  15. I really hate this ballpark, freakishly long win streak or not. Still a house of horrors as far as I'm concerned.
  16. There can't be more than 1200 people in that ballpark right now. You can almost hear conversations going on in the stands. I'm liking Rickie in the 3-hole so far...hopefully he can keep this up.
  17. Pittsburgh's announcers are actually arguing that a quick first inning was bad for Gallardo, and that was the cause of his rough second inning. Couldn't believe they were actually saying that. At least he got out of it with only one run scored. Back to square one.
  18. It's nice to get a run in the first inning, especially with Gallardo pitching, but you can't help but feel a little bummed that they only got one run out of a 2-on, 0-out situation to lead off the game.

  20. I'll agree with Invader that Cameron was likely available mainly because of the possible PED concerns. He was still demanding something like 4/40 in the early days of free agency which scared a lot of people off. IIRC, it came down to the Padres and Brewers, and the Pads had already burned most of their bridges with Cameron, so he decided to sign at a reduced rate. Something similar happened with Hoffman, with San Diego making it a messy divorce. Part of me wonders if the Brewers could've gotten Hoffman if they weren't so good to Cameron last year. Milwaukee used to be a place where no free agent would ever consider signing, unless they were desperate to stay in the big leagues and it was a last resort. Now, as word gets out about how well the front office treats its players and how the clubhouse is a great atmosphere, Milwaukee is starting to become a possibility for some. Not a likely destination, but at least a possibility. Edit: To stay on topic, as far as LaPorta goes, part of me hopes he'll become a stud so it enhances the reputation of the Brewers' farm system. Part of me hopes he flops so we don't have to spend the next 20 years arguing if the trade was worth it if the Brewers don't make the playoffs again in that span (please, God, don't let it be that long). Let's just hope the Brewers make it back this year, and LaPorta becomes an above-average player, and call it even. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. Mark Reynolds has some freaky power. Definitely another Adam Dunn/Jack Cust type. Edit: And now Upton hits one out to dead center off the end of the bat. Yikes. Might be time to start warming someone up soon.
  22. Pretty scary play for Gordon...looked like a pretty nasty hamstring injury at the very least, but maybe it's a knee. Bummer that Rickie was tagged out, but it looked like that ball bounced off the backstop pretty hard and just took a good bounce for the catcher, right into his glove. Not much Rickie could've done to anticipate that, and you have to give credit to Gordon for sticking in there for the tag even after he hurt his leg.

  24. While the media and government may be blowing it out of proportion, it's probably better to be over-vigilant when it comes to this stuff, rather than just ignoring it and then wondering where things went wrong if tons of people start dying from it. To the average healthy American, this is probably no big deal. To people with immune deficiencies or the elderly (or the extremely young, like we saw with the first US death -- a 23 month old baby), I can see the concern. I can also see the concern economically with other countries telling their citizens not to visit the United States right when tourism season is about to kick off in places like New York.
  25. Sorry, but when I read that, I couldn't resist... Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause[/i]] These go to eleven. -- This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
