  1. Looks like Kerry Wood is going to blow this game. He looks wild even on his IBB pitches.
  2. I've heard rumors that "Thunder" is the leading nickname. Is it just me, or does anybody hate non-plural/collective team nicknames (Magic, Heat, etc.) To me, it sounds unprofessional.
  3. Maybe it's just the fact that it's 330 am or the heated conversation, but I really want this to happen, now more than ever. It may be crazy, but I'd do close to whatever it takes. I'm probably shortsighted/naive for putting all of my eggs in one basket, but I think Sheets/Sabathia wins us the Wild Card. This is a very necessary risk (come on, I just want to see playoff baseball!!)
  4. Let's move Hart to leadoff permanently. DFA Mota...maybe try our luck at acquiring Fuentes? The bullpen is a weakness, but solidifying the rotation is a concern (Bush is extremely shaky; is McClung a long term option?; Suppan is Suppan; concerns over Parra's innings?) Next year, Sheets is gone. I have concerns about the strength of next year's rotation. And, trust me, this is NOT a championship caliber club. But honestly, there were maybe three championship caliber clubs last year (BOS, CLE, LAA). There are maybe four this year-- and they're shaky (BOS?, TB?, CHC?, LAA). Take the gamble, because once you're into the playoffs, it's a crapshoot. If Melvin acquires CC, you know he and Mark A mean business. I have faith they'd address the bullpen situation. Edit: Not to mention, the schedule is much more favorable in the second half. I'd be very satisfied with Sheets/Sabathia in the 16 games with St. Louis and Chicago.
  5. Gamel/LaPorta/Escobar are prospects. And they have "upside", sure. But using your logic, what if one of them turns out just like Rickie Weeks? I'm not crazy about trading any of them, but I believe that CC Sabathia makes the Brewers a serious title threat. Winning the WS is the ultimate goal, isn't it? It's not just about crossing our fingers that these prospects pan out (although they do look quite promising). My point is ONE starting pitcher is not going to drasically improve our club or chances of making the playoffs A strengthened rotation will improve this rotation. Sabathia and Sheets are two lights out starters. It gives us a significant advantage over St. Louis, the Mets, Florida, etc. I'm not questioning your fandom by any stretch (believe me, I've done my suffering over this team), but doesn't being so close excite you? Acquiring Sabathia is huge. This is tangible -- with CC, I believe the playoffs become a much greater reality, and in turn, so does a World Series appearance.
  6. If you could pull off the deal by dealing only ONE of Gamel/LaPorta/Escobar to acquire a second ace for three months, the future is certainly not doomed. These guys are not proven commodities at the ML level-- they are not guaranteed All-Stars by any means. CC Sabathia won the AL Cy Young last year. His acquisition would improve the chances of winning the Wild Card. Now if you're talking about trading Rickie Weeks for Brian Roberts or something like that...I'm down. We need a lead off hitter...that will drastically improve our team. 1 starting pitcher is not going to "catapult" us to the playoffs. Swapping CC Sabathia for Dave Bush/Seth McClung in the rotation would likely be more beneficial than adding Brian Roberts. Besides, a lead-off hitter matters only one time in a game. It would not "drastically" improve our team. As somebody else indicated (I think, regarding Mota, the Brewers brass isn't screwing around. CC improves this rotation in the attempt of winning the WS THIS year).
  7. Don't give me this...."It's a risk we have to take"......NO IT ISN"T. This is not our year....plain and simple. We shouldn't be reaching this year....way to many holes. Is there a National League team without holes? Remember, Sheets will likely be gone next season and Gallardo will be coming off of major surgery. It's time to roll the dice and take a shot -- Sheets and Sabathia would make for a formidable rotation, and would vastly improve the chances of making the playoffs.
  8. crewcrazy: The game against Texas was ridiculous. Recall that Cordero recorded two quick outs, then proceeded to work a 0-2 count on several hitters. I think he surrendered 5 or 6 consecutive singles. The Brewers win probability was seriously in the 99.9...% range. It was a terrible, terrible loss. hawing: I'll agree that the August 5 loss versus Philadelphia was awful. It definitely eclipses tonight. That game included questionable management (why bring in Matt Wise?), and Philadelphia got a cheap RBI (Howard was HBP). Cordero surrendered 3 runs with 2 outs. And then we had to sit through 45 minutes of extra innings, only to watch the Crew lose. However, the Aramis Ramirez walk-off was the most upsetting, disgusting Brewers loss in a LONG time. I still believe if Cordero could have saved that game, the Brewers would have won the division.
  9. This reminds me of the Thursday night before we traded Carlos Lee in 2006 -- updating the page every minute, waiting for something to happen. The next morning -- BAM Coco was a Brewer (so was Kevin Mench, but let's try to forget about that).
  10. I remember back in mid-May when many bf.netters were checking the boards every morning, in anticipation of Yost's firing. In early July, bf.netters are checking the boards every morning, in anticipation of landing CC Sabathia. Let's get this deal done, I'm getting excited!
  11. I began work right when Gagne began the 8th inning. A half hour later, I check the score on my cell phone and see: "MIL 5, ARI 6" . I thought for sure Gagne blew it. Sorry, Eric. This has to be the worst loss of the Ned Yost era. This eclipses last year's meltdown(s) against Philadelphia, Texas, and the A-Ram walk-off job. 6 in the bottom of the 9th!? Can we please have Mota suffer some phantom injury? Despite his belief that he "made his pitches" and "got the job done", he didn't.
  12. Hate to say it, but I don't have a good feeling here. Torres is due to blow one sometime. Doesn't look good thus far.
  13. Better get one on the board soon...Mota's warming up.
  14. Ugh...Riske's first blown save as a Brewer.
  15. I was JUST about to criticize Rickie Weeks for looking at too many strikes. Very nice
  16. Wow, I for sure thought that'd be the inning of doom. I love Brian Shouse.
  17. I feel bad for the Sonics fans in Seattle. There are probably a bunch of broken hearted people tonight.
  18. From noon on Sunday, to noon on Tuesday, Braun has received 41% more online votes than Fukudome. I would venture to say that things are looking bright for Ryan. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080701&content_id=3044980&vkey=allstar2008&fext=.jsp
  19. I was in Boston in May for the series, and was fortunate enough to stay at the Brewers' hotel. Autograph seekers lurked around the hotel, but were asked to leave by hotel management. After the postponement of the Friday game, I watched the players enter the hotel. I'm not a big autograph guy --- especially at the team hotel. It's their time to relax, and I'd much rather receive acknowledgement of my Brewers hat/shirt or engage in a brief conversation with the player. JJ, Billy, and Soup all stopped to say hi. About half the team (including the FSN crew) was in the hotel lounge. TGJ sat with a few fans and bought them a round of drinks. I had a conversation with Ryan Braun-- I definitely won't forget that! When I travel with the Brewers in the future, I'll hopefully stay in the team hotel, but I'd never go out of my way to disturb a player at a hotel.

  21. I'm seeking a trade for a pair of tickets for the game vs. Pittsburgh on Sat., Aug 23 at 6:05 pm. They're Terrace Box 414, Row 2, Seats 2 and 3 I'm seeking any tickets from pretty much any game during September (except weekday afternoon games) and the Nationals series in August (Fri/Sat/Sun). Thanks
