Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing

Interesting new info from Biogenesis and Anthony Bosch: Asked about players under his care, Bosch cut in and said, "Allegedly under my care. If you are going to ask me about baseball players, I have no comment on any baseball players or anybody else associated with baseball players." . . . . The only player Bosch would discuss at all was Braun, whose name appears on at least two Biogenesis documents. One list has been described by sources as a list of players who received PEDs from the clinic or Bosch, and indicates that Braun owed $1,500. Another, as reported by Yahoo! Sports, said Braun owed $20,000-$30,000. Braun denied receiving drugs and issued a statement in February saying his legal team consulted with Bosch a year earlier when he successfully appealed a positive test for steroids. "I just answered a few questions from his legal team, not from Braun or any other ballplayer," Bosch said. He would not say what the questions were. I wonder if ESPN will emphasize this at all. Nah. In a perverse way, the pen getting knocked around here softens the blow of the assumed outcome.

Last April he was coming back off a pretty messed up ankle. He has no such excuse this season. Without looking at the numbers I don't think Weeks has exhbited any sort of pattern of 'slow starts' while healthy. Which only makes his current poor form more concerning.

Sometimes guys who are fast just fall in love with their speed. Whenever they need to run fast, that's all they do and then they end up not being able to make a play because they're running too fast to be under control at the crucial moment.

Questionable throw, no doubt. But it is possible to execute that throw without chucking it into the dirt with no prayer of being caught. That was like a Prince Fielder throw to the plate. Terrible. Apart from the mechanics of the throw, which I agree should be better, he needs to just use his head when he sees Segura racing to the bag. So he didn't have to just make a good throw, he had to make a really good throw to a moving target who then also had to make a good play himself to record the out. Rickie had to know the downside risk and the relative unimportance of the runner being at 3rd there. It's just poor awareness, and that bugs me just as much (more, actually) as the mechanics. And now he makes another poor mental play as I'm typing.

We complain about the umps often, but those last two ball/strike calls appear to have been right on the money on two pretty similar pitches.

I see him out there wearing the shirt, but for whatever reason my brain has trouble processing Gorzelanny as a Brewer.

Was distracted and didn't really realize what was going on, but I don't know why they even ran Yo out there this inning. He gutted through 6. Give him a "well done" and let the pen hold a 3-run lead. SD hasn't really felt like they're in this at all and now it's one swing from big trouble.

No excuse for not having somebody ready to roll at the top of the inning.

3 more outs without a run and Yo gets a "quality start" out of this performance. I'll take it.
