  1. Official sound of the Brewers website: Flushing toilet or slamming door?
  2. Really, how is this game differnt from a lot of games this year, other than the outcome? When the starter does well, he doesn't get a decision. THe game goes to extras and it's pretty much a coin flip. The Brewers have won their share, and now they're losing them.
  3. Hunter Pence with those hose reminds me of Ichabod Crane from the animated version of The Headless Horseman.
  4. Doe anyone have a reliable count of how many of those hits the opposition has piled up from teh Florida series on? And that could have been another knee.
  5. tristar, what's taking you so long?
  6. It's not quite the same situation, but when I was a wrestler in HS we had a pretty competitive team my sophomore year. One of my classmates wrestled heavywieght, usually against much bigger, stronger junior and senior kids. He'd get pinned in the final match and we'd lose the dual. Yeah, he should have tried not to get pinned, but if a few of the guys in the lighter weights would have come through with a pin or a few extra points, the last match doesn't matter. Yeah, Gagne should be better. But you can't just put the losses solely on him just because he's the last guy with his fingerprints on the evidence.
  7. I hear that for over 100 years teams played and won close baseball games without a "closer". This even occured within my living memory.
  8. Gagne getting squeezed and Gagne lacking control are not mutually exclusive. Most of the time they are self-reinforcing. Cuzzi stunk, but Gagne never once put two pitches in the same general location and challenged Cuzzi to keep making a call. He was scattershot and he paid the price, even if it was unfair.
  9. If there is a single borderline called strike this inning against the Crew Ned needs to get himself tossed. Edit: I fully realize his would require the Brewers working the count.
  10. This is now in NBA officiating territory.
  11. Well, the guy was safe at second earlier, so I guess they're just good at missing calls.
  12. Yeah, can't imagine why you'd want Stetter out there. The next run he gives up will be his first.
  13. Many being former Enron employees, they're predisposed to think everything that goes up is a home run.
  14. The play at the the plate was a lot closer than that. The call at second is a huge break for Milwaukee.
  15. was just gonna post the same thing, sheets. din't make any diff on that play, but i have no idea why people reach for that particular ball about 98% of the time.
  16. Sveum did a good job of sending Cameron home on that play.
  17. I'm not sure the D is greatly improved. Not committing errors is not necessarily synonymous with excellent defense. I honestly don't know if this is a good team or not, but I can say that about just about the entire National League, so in a way it really doesn't matter. You just have to beat the teams you're competitng against, regardless or whether you are objectively "good". This year's Packer team wasn't all that great, but they probably should have gone to the Super Bowl. Ten years ago that Packer team would have been comparable to some of the Lions teams with Barry Sanders and Herman Moore that were 'good' teams but had no shot against the Packers, Cowboys and 49ers. At this point I think a playoff run must be predicated on the offense keying a couple of streaks where the Crew goes 15-5, including winning the crucial HTH series against the Cubs and Cards. I just don't think that they will be able to be consistent enough with their pitching to hope to be able to just slowly grind one of those seasons where they just keep playing until one day you look up and realize you're 20 games over .500
  18. Ooh, ooh that smell Can't you smell that smell? Ooh, ooh that smell The smell of death surrounds you.
  19. Suppan hasb't pitched badly. His last start in Chicago was terrible, but his starts before that deserved to be wins. I met my wife for dinner, so I was listening in the car. Last thing I heard was Ueck talking about Yost going out to give Parra a tongue lashing after teh back-to-back jobs. I get back in teh car to hear that he gave up 3 more that inning. With any other manager I would almost have found it inconceivable. I'm pretty sure it won't be, but wouldn't it really suck if Thursday, before the diagnosis, turns out to be the high point of the season?
  20. This strike zone is absolutely ridiculous. A few days ago everything was a strike, now virtually nothing is.
  21. I can't remember the last sunny game in Houston.
  22. I have college ball on FSN WI on DTV, too. But I do have the game on 737, the Extra Innings channel. (No, I'm not a subscriber.) And Weeks go huge.
  23. Who, other than Prince or Braun, brings a #2 starting pitcher in a trade? I'd rather just trade a guy like Hart for highest-level prospects you can find. If Braun or Prince isn't in the long term financial plan, then you make the best possible deal you can for one of those guys to bring in the best pitching (ML plus prospects) that you can muster. I'd really like to keep Sheets around. I think he's a good fit for the team and the town, but I have to be realistic in terms of money plus injury liability. I agree that Sheets DL history has been pretty fluky, but at some point the bare facts overwhelm wondering about things like " bad luck".
  24. Saturday on national TV should be great with Dave Bush scheduled to pitch BP to the Sox.
