  1. What's the opinion on Diaz behind the dish tonight from those with video? Gameday making him appear inconsistent.
  2. I thought I was finally going to be able to watch the Brewers on Tuesday, not realizing that instead the Bucks are on FSN. Why the hell didn't someone move them to OKC and leave the Sonics in Seattle?
  3. Which raises the question: Where does the truck go? Does it leave immediately after the game to go to some other venue? And do the cameras go, too? The truck and prodcution stuff is what has me scratching my head about folks pushing 1080p TVs. Well, I understand it all from a marketing and sales angle, but wonder if consumers really understand it. Other than Blu-Ray and video games, there won't be any 1080p content available for quite a while, as most broadcast content providers had to sink a boatload of money into their current 1080i or 720p equipment to get into the HD game, and they won't be ditching that stuff any time soon to spend even more money on 1080p stuff. No matter what the picture looks like, I'm just hoping FSN gives us the right pictures tomorrow night, as it will be my first live game this season.
  4. On the HD issue: Just a guess, but there may be a bandwidth issue there. Only so much satellite capacity to go around to all the FSN outlets without going outside of the satellite(s) to which they have already purchased access. Maybe there simply isn't enough to broadcast every game from every location in HD. Would be interesting to see is there is a pattern of Teams A & B having HD games at certain times and C & D at others.
  5. Well, I guess I'm glad I haven't been able to watch the Crew yet this season. Previous seasons have been watchable. I can only assume from the comments that they have brought in somebody who has never worked baseball before. Seems like the way to do a game is pretty cut and dried.
  6. Not so sure the Brewers 'dominate' that Badgers. Frankly, not even sure they are 'ahead' of the Badgers in a lot of places north and/or west of Milwaukee.
  7. A Doorman sighting is now a more uplifting sign of spring than seeing the first robin.
  8. The funny thing is, in defending their other power rankings from criticism the hack in charge of a given set of rankings will say "This is about how good the team is playing NOW". Not that it makes any difference to their purpose as a page-view generator.
  9. MLB gets its revenue through licensing. Stuff sold at ballparks goes to the clubs, but the league will indirectly get a cut of those sales through the licensing mechanism which makes the manufacture of goods with MLB licensed TMs and such possible in the first place.
  10. I watched a fair amount of that game on FS Arizona. Our old friend Daron S was pretty upset with the outcome. Didn't say much, but you could tell the way the entire thing unfurled just disgusted him. He and Grace were talking about the little things that AZ had done well to get to that point in the game, and they were right. The D-backs just played better the whole game, then *POOF*. I think Daron's last call was "All those little things. WASTED!" Then silence for about 15 seconds. Don't know if he thought they had gone to commercial, or if he did it for effect. But the disgust seemed genuine. Think he's seen that kind of as-near-as-you-can-get-to-undeserved a little too often in that bandbox.
  11. Not having night games blows. When the Brewers open their series in STL, I will have seen only 3 of 11 (barring rainouts in NY) games live to start the season, since I have morning/afternoon commitments both this weekend and next. I love Jim Powell and Ueck, but I'm really anxious to *see* the Crew. And, during the day at work, it's hard to lock in like you really want to on the radio anyway. Not only that, as a DTV guy I don't get the FSN-WI replays, but even if I did it's not much of a substitute. Topping it all off, I have all these other games in my face at night, which is kinda nice, but in the end only reminds me that it's NOT the Brewers. If divorce/unemployment were viable options I might be able to change this. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to suffer.
  12. So, does he deflect the boos away from Turnbow, or does the booing set now have two whipping boys?
  13. Say the Brewers do plateau and improve by only two games. Hell, say the Brewers regress by two games and this board explodes. The Reds still have to improve by 11 wins just to catch them in the standings. Could the Reds improve by 15 wins this season and reach the SI projection? Sure. I doubt it, but sure. With Dusty in charge and . . . Looks like SI wants to sell some magazines.
  14. My instant analysis of SI's analysis: The Reds won the off-season press conference.
  15. I wouldn't hold my breath. Charter promises much, does little. They still contact me about reupping with them months after I dumped them for satellite. They say they'll give me whatever I want, and cheap, too. I ask them for BTN and NFLN. Silence.

  17. Maybe they should package game tickets with an early-bird dinner special.
  18. Looking closer, I note that there are only three projected 90+ win teams. Could be right, but I don't remember the last time there were fewer than 5 or 6 90-win teams. I can remember a few years when there were 8 or more. Maybe everyone will just be more competitive and records will be pulled to the middle, but I'm guessing things will just happen that are unanticipated and we'll see at least 5 again.

  21. Well, if this means the Crew gets the wildcard, I guess I'd take it, as much as it would suck to finish behind 'them'.

  24. Seeing the fan reaction is, to me, the biggest reason to watch the game, but honestly, I won't see any of it other than what I catch in breaks in the Badger game. I'm just hopeful that the mood is not an ugly one. Hope the Crew can get to 82 and beyond, but only if it doesn't mean that somehow both the Mets and Phils get in. Just hoping that, win or lose, they play good baseball these last two games and learn something from the team with the second best record in the National League. SD came in and just played baseball without too much emotional baggage tugging them down. Something for the young guys to file away for next season.
  25. Without getting into anything political, I think some parallels can be drawn between this manager, an American president and an overseas military conflict.
