  1. Which teams, if any, have a worse record than the Brewers since the high water mark at 24-10? And the thing left unsaid tonight when the graphic went up about the percentage of runs due to HRs was that the Brewers were sandwiched between the two worst teams in baseball in terms of record. A guy could make the argument that maybe the big start was an aberration, and the "real" Brewers are a team with an unsustainable offense and pitching that peaked about three weeks after spring training. Brewers.com better keep that "Prince's deep shot not enough" headline on a hotkey. It's looking like they'll be able to reuse that link often.
  2. Paging Mr. Mora. Paging Mr. Jim Mora, Sr. You're wanted at the podium for a few words.
  3. Let's say the Brewers do continue to skid around. They don't go on a big losing streak, but they continue to lose series, go into the AS break at .500 in second place behind a "hot" (by NL Central standards) Cubs/Cards squad and generally look like they are slowly bleeding to death. What good would it do to fire Yost in midseason? As pointed out above, I think he's liked and respected by the players. This is a young team and I don't know that axing Yost is going to help if managment believes, despite the downturn, that the division is still there for the taking in the second half. In a worst case scenario, if Youst is going to be fired suring the season, I'd wait to fire him after it becomes eminently clear that the Brewers won't make the postseason and the the season is, in effect, a failure. At that point, say in mid-September, I'd fire Yost to make a point to the young kids that failure is unacceptable. But in doing so I'd also have a successor pretty much lined up and a plan for going forward from there in place.
  4. If the Brewers hadn't gone and won the Marlins series, they'd still be on track to be back to .500 at around 37-37. Instead, I'm now dreading (again) the Pirates series in early July. Eerily, it again falls after a Cubs road series. Same order as teh "sweep suits"debacle. And if the Brewers continue to lose every series without getting swept, they'll be at 40-41 going into Pittsburgh. They probably won't lose every series, but it looks like there is a not improbable chance the Crew will be again be going into Pittsburgh's house of horrors with .500 on the line.
  5. I'll keep typing this until I get satisfaction: How the hell does the Brewers organization continue to let a substantial portion of the tickets down low, right behind behind home plate, get into visiting fan's hands? It's bad enough to see red down there when the Cards or Reds are in town, but it's almost unbearable for me to watch some fat slob in a Bears/Bulls/Cubs jersey down there. Why aren't most of those tix going to Brewers season ticket holders? Or to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Milwaukee/Wisconsin? Or whoever. It simply astounds me that the fans who make the biggest TV impression of what your park is like to the audience who rarely gets to attend games are allowed to be visiting fans.
  6. If you're going to bring Cappelan up, you have to use him in situations like that to see if he can do it. The HR to WIllingham was a bad pitch, but Uggla's double was just a nice piece of hitting. The single was kind of a jam shot, too. Certainly not an acceptable inining, but it's also pretty tough to count on winning too many games in which your offense consists of a pinch-hit solo shot and a once-a-career solo shot from a starting pitcher.
  7. I don't know that this is a ringing endorsement when a good number of those pitches are simple stright-as-a-string fastballs that are being fouled off instead of driven. Billy has had some tough ABs this year, but to a certain extent they don't matter as much if you spend all your time looking for the right pitch but are simply unable to close the deal.
  8. WIth his two Ks today, Billy Hall has as many Ks as hits (45 of each) this season. Good thing they fired Wynegar, or it could be even worse.
  9. If things don't change in the 5th, the Brewers streak of innings without a lead will have ballooned to 50. And 45 of those 50 innings have been innings in which the Brewers trailed (in other words, they've only tied at the end of 5 of the last 50 innings). Too depressed to look back further than that. Edit: Oops didn't add the first 3 innings of today. SO they've been tied at teh end of 8 of those innings . Everyone feel much better?
  10. Guess I should have put the last sentence in blue. I love Billy Hall. But you have to admit that his slump is pretty bad. If he can't even hit straight-as-a-string fastballs anymore, something is going on. Maybe the Crew should just play with one outfielder.
  11. WIth Peavy on the hill is today the day Bill Hall's strikeouts surpass his hits? Maybe the people whining about TGJ are thinking about giving the wrong guy extended bench time.
  12. If the Crew keeps up their recent pace of losing every series but never getting swept, they'll hit .500 at 37-37. (This isn't that big a stretch as they will probably only be favored to win two of their next 9 series.) How big will their Central lead be at that point? Only 3 of those 27 games will be against divisional opponents.
  13. Ok, despite the leadoff double, did anybody else think that other than a HR, the best thing Counsell could do was make an out so as to keep Villanueva in the game?
  14. What's the over/under date for when this team gets caught in the division standings? Other than the Flodia and Kansas City series at home, is there another series that this team, as presently constituted, will be favored to win before July? I don't want to hear about how the breaks aren't going oour way. When they don't go your way in just about every game, there is usually more than chance involved.
  15. Dear Ms Jensen; We may have to clear my calendar for next week. And please bring in the Turnbow file. It's the one with "Trouble" written all over it. Dr Freud.
  16. Not too much to complain about tonight, one rough inning for Cappy Well, that and all but about 4 Brewer ABs so far.
  17. Remember the home series with the Twins last year? If not, just replay the last three innings on your DVR. If Bush reprises his role from last year tomorrow, the bandwagon will continue to lighten. The only thing worse than hearing Twins fans whoop it up in Miller Park is when Cubs fans do it.

  19. This game has been mildly entertaining so far. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Even though it's April, both teams seem to really want to win this one, and I imagine the loser will be pretty disappointed.
  20. I'd like to again publicly tank, oops I mean thank, the Bucks for allowing me to not see Billy's slam.
  21. Thanks to the Bucks, FSN and the weather it's getting pretty damned hard to maintain my excitment level about this team so far. I can't wait until I can actually come home, plop down and watch teh Crew just about every night in a row. And though I know many disliked him (and I have nothing against BA), I miss Daron's enthusiasm.
  22. I swear we're all going to be manic-depressives before this season is over. Hope Sheeter can keep it going tomorrow. And maybe we'll score more than 2 runs for him.
  23. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! This is so typical. Do enough to win, then do enough to lose. I can't watch Kolb pitch here.
  24. After thinking for a bit, I'll stick with my 5 prediction for the Rockies, but maybe I should transfer the '2' prediction for the Crew to the 'Blind Optimism' thread.
  25. This game is really a microcosm of the entire season. People get their hopes upthinking a nice win has momentum moving in teh right direction. Then, though it's not horrible pithcing, just enough goes wrong, just enough bad luck strikes and a display of good fundamental execution by the other team puts all the pressure on the Brewers. Then the Brewers find a way to make a borderline big league pitcher look much better than he is and find a way to waste the opportunties they do create by failing in the same fundamental execution department which the other side is using to beat them. Not like there's anything at stake. A chance to move ahead of a rival in teh standings. A chance to pick up a game in teh wildcard and the division. A chance to win a road series. A chance to have things going in the right direction heading into a road series against tehedivision leader. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm guessing the final will be 5-2. Even knowing how all the injuries have really hurt this team, nights like this make you wonder why you even bother getting the least bit invested.
