  1. I'd like to kid myself into thinking that terrible strike call really mattered.
  2. I hate September rosters. Call up as many as you want, but only have a given standard active roster for a given game.
  3. "Other teams have gotten to him, the Brewers have not." IN a game of guess the pitcher this is a worthless clue.
  4. Make it a worthwhile halftime, Crew. The way GB is playing I might even stick around.
  5. Neither game tonight is a bargain. Packers still can't tackle, Brewers still can't hit.
  6. I was kinda hoping to be able to watch a whole inning before switching my primary focus. It now appears I may not even see a third of an inning.
  7. The Cards are 7-6 in their last 13, and needed a 5 game winning streak to get there. In that span they've gained 4.5 games in the standings.
  8. Another throwaway nugget: During the losing streak, the Brewers have held a lead at the end of a complete inning at only 3 points: 2 of them (7th and 8th) in the extra inning loss to SD and 1 (1st) in the 15-5 blowout in SF.
  9. Well, the math gets tough if this result holds. 23 games remain for both STL and MIL. 7 games head-to-head. If the Crew wins 4 of those 7 games, they still need to go 11-5 in the remainder to win the division outright if the Cards play .500 ball in the rest of theirs. You can adjust the figures from there to examine different scenarios. STL doesn' t play a single game against any team remotely in the playoff chase other than MIL the rest of the season and 6 games against COL and ARZ. MIL has 3 games at PIT, 4 with the marginally relevant Marlins.
  10. Marginally relevant fact I just researched: Since the AS break, the Brewers have won exactly 1 game when giving up 4 runs or more. They beat the Cards 7-4 on August 1. Edit: Additionally, the Brewers are 1-14 since the break when giving up at least 4 runs. Tonight would make 15. Edit 2: As a point of comparison, the Cards are 8-14 in that same span.
  11. With apologies to Luc, Ramirez has been the most consistently good player for the team this year. I'll be sad to see him go. Team will be worse without him.
  12. It wouldn't matter if he did. The Cubs would still be hitting jam jobs and saw offs.
  13. The Cubs have scored 17 runs so far in this series. Since the start of the losing streak the Brewers have scored 15 total.
  14. Despite hitting only a combined .221 (115-for-521), Cubs third basemen share the Major League lead with the Athletics for most home runs from the hot corner this season at 26. This is somewhat surprising to me, not with respect to the teams/players involved, but the number of HR from what people traditionally consider a power position.
  15. This is truly awful. Was shocked to hear the news this morning. I met once him through a childhood friend who got his start in baseball in part thanks to Bruce.
  16. It's times like these when I'm happy smell-o-vision never really took off.
  17. Yup. After the opener in SD the season run differential was +42. Heading into this evening it was +13. If the margin stays the same until the end (I'm expecting a meaningless solo homer yet . . . ) it will be down to +7.
  18. What percentage of fans at Miller Park on Thursday will be spending more time on their phones checking Packer updates than actually watching the game in front of them?
  19. As somebody posted somewhere else on the site, barring a miracle the Crew will have the worst record in the division since the 20-7 start after tonight. You can't ignore the great start, but you also can't ignore what has come since. I just hope fans at the park don't get ugly this weekend if things continue to go belly up.
  20. Sprained my wrist playing hoops. It wasn't right for months. Just no strength even when the pain was gone. Can't imagine trying to swing a bat or golf club. Sure it all depends on severity and treatment but I won't expect him to be back to normal for a while. Hope he just heals quicker than I did.
  21. I went to help my wife with something and literally missed it. Point two: I honestly beleive RR hurt the ballclub with his whining about the strikezone the other night. Nothing intentional in terms of hosing the team by blue but I don't see them getting the benefit of any doubt. That call was egregiously bad, but on the really close ones that can't be overturned because they're just too close you want that benefit of the doubt.
  22. I posted facetiously on this subject over at the Badger board, but I'm now starting a serious internal debate about which is more enjoyable - watching the Brewers or watching Tanner McEvoy attempt a forward pass.
  23. There is the hit. All that's left for the offense to do is hit a couple of meaningless late-inning solo homers.
