  1. Weeks to the DL per Haudricourt. Irribarrean up. So much for day to day.....
  2. I am still on the boat for the Gwynn Jr to San Diego for Maddux. If there is interest in Hall, I would consider it to get the deal done with something coming back. The way Maddux pitched last night against the Cubs, boy would that be nice. Melvin this morning on WTMJ was asked about the philosophy of pitchers "pitching to contact" and obviously he mentioned that Mike Maddux is a big believer of that philosophy, and he even went on to say that Greg Maddux is the best pitcher of all time of pitching to contact. I wonder if he had Greg Maddux on his mind for some reason.....hmmmm..... He better hurry up though, Atlanta is about to pounce on Greg Maddux to help try to create a reunion with Glavine and Smoltz (from the golf course).
  3. I am Ok with the lineup, except, I think I would have liked Kapler in there today for Cameron. Those 16ks are ugly, and Cameron isn't going well right now....
  4. TLB, you are right in all regards about his contract for certain. I just feel that Melvin and Ash given the time they spent on this reclamation project will put him in the rotation for a shot given the fact that he has been better over his career than McClung ever was, and he did have recent success in 2006. It is kind of like you go out one day rummaging for a certain item (oh maybe baseball bat, fishing pole, glove, shovel, etc) and throw the item in your garage for later use. You didn't spend a lot of money on it, but you are so tempted to see what kind of "bang for your buck" you will get by trying it out. I think that is what Melvin is doing, waiting for one or two decent starts and his line from the last game of 7IP, 8H, 2ER, 6K, 2BB is one of those starts. I don't like it at all, but I think they will say if he gets another quality start down there before the 15th, Melvin will call him up despite the poor ERA and say that the cause for some of his troubles was the lack of spring training. This way Melvin gets to try out that "item" that he bought from the rummage, with the upside being Weaver succeeds 2006 style and Melvin then looks like a genious, or he fails like McClung and we are no worse off. Either way, he obviously knows that the team needs pitching help to come in via the trade route.
  5. The Brewers are going to trade for Greg Maddux or Zach Grienke by June 15th, so this will all be a moot point. In all seriousness, if the off days permit, I would skip the 5th starter when applicable and piggy back Mc Clung/Villy to get us by those two games on the 15th and 21st. I would hope though that Melvin has something up his sleeve to help bolster the rotation BEFORE the July push against the Cards, Astros, and Cubs. I think Jeff Weaver will be given a start or two as well. I think it is all but guaranteed. So basically, we will have suckitude out of the #5 spot. That is why I would try to skip the spot in the rotation now, and hope they make a move in June, so that Attanasio and Melvin go get the missing rotation piece that doesn't cost a Gamel, LaPorta, etc. (edit: fixed code --1992)
  6. What year was it that the Cubs had that amazing crash in the late 60's? I wasn't born yet, but how about that happening this year? Zero significant injuries...Crazy amount of home games thus far for them. The stars must be aligned, but with 33 road games coming over the next two months of June and July and only 20 home games, lets wait till after then to annoint them as champs. ( I know it doesn't look good now). We will see, but a come back from 9-1 is pretty amazing. The Brewers can't score nine runs in a week. It is like a complete reversal of the two teams from a year ago, minus the fact that we lost a dominating member of our rotation.
  7. Regarding the offense, so much for what many of us thought (me included) that this young team will only certainly improve with experience and getting closer to their collective "peaks" and that alone will make up the difference in the Cubs adding Kosuke Fukudome. Is it sad that I want "TheRiot" on our team instead of the sure thing inWeeks? I mean, I really like Weeks but this is getting maddening. 2 for 4 one day and then a hat trick of strike outs the next. Then a bunch of 0-4's with an single solo shot in there sprinkled in. Also to top that off, we have the best singles hitting cleanup hitter in all of baseball. What good is that? No Slugging, No Batting Average, no On Base %. The projection systems never saw that coming with this team!!! I think I am going to finally say that this team "slump" isn't a slump. It is what you've got with this club. Last year the whole team was a bunch of 2006 Bill Hall's. When do we expect all the studs from Huntsville to arrive? (It galls me to again have to wait for the next wave, and say 2011 is the year.....)
  8. I think Villy might have to go back, but I bet they trot out Mc Clung a few more times. Again how is the trade market? Opening up any????
  9. SD Receptionist: Hello, Kevin Towers office.... Melvin: Can I speak to Kevin Towers please? Towers: Hello Doug. Melvin: Remember that offer of Tony Gwynn, Jr for Greg Maddux that we talked about? Towers: Yes, sure, wasn't quite enough for us. Melvin: I know, I'm begging you to reconsider. I have Seth McClung in the rotation. Can you say black hole? Can I offer you a few more pieces? I wish this is happening right now.......
  10. Here is another article of the Padres demise into the mess they are in now. It just seems to make sense for a Gwynn, Jr. and Maddux swap. The article says that the team has no speed, and their outfielders need to have the ability to cover the vast open spaces of Petco. At this point I wonder if Melvin is talking to Towers finally about this. No Trade Clause or not, I would think a Maddux/Maddux reunion could be possible.
  11. I totally agree here. With the Yo injury, that puts the Cubs in the driver's seat for sure. If by the time the Cubs come into August from their two month summer vacation away from Wrigley and they are comfortably in first place, then kudos to them. They have done what the Brewers youth failed to do last year, put the rest of the division away. I am still holding out hope that the Crew can just stay close and then can swing a trade for the likes of Maddux or something (not giving up much hopefully) to bolster their chances. The Cubs have been pretty injury free, save Soriano's 2 week stint when he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his bat. If they were to lose someone of significance for the season, (Zambrano, Lilly, ARam, DLee) then it really could start to even things out for us and the rest of the division. Losing Yo, who is a better #2 than Lilly was a devastating blow....alas, what can you do?
  12. I know we have been talking about the schedules and how they have played out this far for the Brewers and the Cubs in that every time I turn on Sportscenter, the Cubs are overwhelmingly winning at Wrigley (except when playing the Brewers), and the Brewers are on the road losing 15 of 25 games against playoff caliber teams for the most part. I don't feel good about the Brewers losing against good competition at all since if they are ready to take that next step, they should be closer to .500 on the road. Now the Cubs have a real odd schedule it appears in 2008, but as they were blessed with a ton of home games in April and May, they have a REAL crucial part of their season coming up. They have done well at home, taking care of business against the likes of Pittsburgh, but also beat a good NY Mets team and the big sweep of Arizona. I would feel real good if I were a Cubs fan, no doubt. Here is the breakdown of the Cubs home and away games by month: Home Away April- 16 11 May- 17 12 June- 10 17 July- 10 16 Aug- 19 9 Sep- 9 16 If the Brewers can just hang tough for the rest of the month of May and get to .500 and shave off a few games of their lead, they are in position to capitalize on the Cubs tougher schedule over the next two months, when the Brewers schedule turns home friendly. Also remember, the Cubs September schedule is extremely brutal. The play on the road at Cincinnati (3), St. Louis (3), Houston (3), NY Mets (4), and Milwaukee (3). Their last 7 games are on the road in September. I'm just sayin.....
  13. They are speculating on WSSP right now. My guess is one of the kids is locked up. Braun probably. Mark A being in town seems to make sense.
  14. Ok, so out of curiosity, what kind of stuff does DiFiliece have? How come he hasn't broken through to the bigs yet? I am intrigued by the stats but does he have a plus fastball or something? Wicked breaking stuff? A pinpoint off-spead pitch????
  15. The line ups are out at JS online. Normal lineup for the Crew with Cameron back. Hardy at SS. Hall at 3B. Pujols is indeed out of the lineup. Thank goodness. I am going tonight, at least we have some hope!
  16. I concur with some of the posters about Maddux. I think this would be one of the better pick ups that could be done to solidify the rotation. He would probably accept the trade here to pair with his brother, the Brewers can compete and he could be instrumental in that, and I think we have the goods that the Padres want in Gwynn, Jr. Attanasio will have to open the pocket book, but this would be a nice move. Maybe the young arms of Bush, Villy, and Parra, could benefit from being in the clubhouse with one of the best pitchers ever to play this game. I certainly hope Melvin is at least talking to the Padres. It makes just too much sense. However, I don't feel he would be available now, but in another month or so, and the Brewers ship may have sunk by then, if Parra, Bush and Villy can't figure out how to get to the 7th inning.....
  17. I hate this past week. It was just just a week ago almost to the hour that we were division contenders. Since then, Yo is done, the team scored only 2 runs in its last 26 innings, and our pitchers gave up back to back homers three times (nevermind there was also one back to back to back job done too) since last Friday. Now the Astros are ahead of us and the Reds not far behind and we as fans on the "trade rumors page" are contemplating selling Sheets and Fielder (not seriously, I hope) at the deadline. This could be the worst week of my Brewer life. Considering the expectations of this team, it hurts thinking about this and then again thinking of the future of "where do we go from here" thoughts when even just a month ago, we were "stacked" at every position. Now all of a sudden: J.J. Hardy turned into Cesar Isturiz or Abraham Nunez Bill Hall is a worse Jose Hernandez Ryan Braun is being called Pat Listach on talk shows Dave Bush looks like he has never had a two consecutive 12 win seasons, with decent WHIPs and ERAs Rickie Weeks hot August and September of 2007 seems like two years ago. Prince Fielder should have kept eating meat (complaints on talk radio, blogs) Manny Parra and Carlos Villaneuva look like starters for the Mudville Nine When will this nightmare end? It has to be just a cold spell right??? But the coldspell has lasted for a MONTH!
  18. The Cubs have a tough September schedule too for the stretch run than what the Brewers do. They play only 9 home games: 3 vs. Hou 3 vs. Mil 3 vs. Stl The are on the road for 15 games including the whole last week of the season at NYM and MIL. 3 at Cin 3 at Stl 3 at Hou 4 at NYM 3 at Mil That last week could be murderous for them.....
  19. Regarding Stetter, I would love to see him stick with the team, but barring a trade or something, he will have to go down. I think he could be a nice weapon in the bullpen that can be used in the late innings, certainly against lefties, but also righties. The Cards do have a few lefties in (Duncan, Ankiel, Schumaker, Kennedy,) as well as the Phillies (Howard, Utley, Jenkins, Dobbs) so maybe someone else is going down in that Stetter certainly could be used this week as well given the competition.
  20. So when does Soriano tell us that he is 37? His legs are falling apart!
  21. The Brewers are making up for last years problem of losing something like 16 games with 3-run leads. So far, they have actually won two this week against the Mets on 4/13/08 and today against the Cardinals. Best yet these two are done on the road!!!
  22. This game went from one of the worst games of the season to one of the best. Craig Counsell, I am sorry for all the bad things I said about you last year! 3-3 road trip so far. Not Bad!!!
  23. Does anyone recall a total team funk as bad as this last year? I mean nobody is hitting at all. Nobody, save Counsell....
  24. Corey, welcome to the #5 Spot. Protect Prince well, so he gets something to hit the next time he plays the Cardinals....and maybe the rest of the league.
