  1. hmmm, odd lineup. I guess Hardy has been our best hitter so far. If these are today's starters, I'd rather see: CF Gwynn SS Hardy LF Jenkins 1B Fielder 2B Weeks RF Gross C Miller 3B Counsell P Capuano Why not give Weeks some chances lower in the lineup? The more I see Rickie leading off, the more I want him to not be doing so.
  2. I see Miller throwing some big ol' fat ones today. Brewers 8 Cubs 4 Jenkins 3 for 4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI Fielder 2 for 3, HR, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB Capuano 7 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 1 BB The only two games that I've tried to predict have resulted in Brewer victories, so here's to good karma!
  3. ach. I had hoped our offense was past these team-wide swoons. Though to be fair, they are facing a tough Zambrano today. It's just sick that we have one hit in the last 10 innings against the Cubs' starting pitchers.
  4. vengeance today! Take em down Sheeter!
  5. ouch. Bush is just getting crushed. I finally get to sit down and watch a game and this is what I get. Fire Yost!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. really, it only makes sense to trade Jenks and not Mench, assuming that Jenks has decent early season production. Many think Gross can replicate Jenkins' output of the RHP half of the LF platoon. If Mench is gone, do you start Jenks v LHP again? Or is Braun maybe going to play 3B and LF later this season?
  7. warm up Villy! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. Still, I don't think even Counsell is horrible for an 8 hitter, especially when 1-7 are all power threats. When Graff is in there, I feel anyone 1-8 could be the hero for the night.
  9. haven't read everything just wanted to post my thoughts. Got to listen only to the bottom of the 9th inning (saw most of the rest on gamecast) but I got chills hearing the crowd roar for the entire final AB. Can't wait to get down to Miller Park for my first game this season in mid-May. Great to see Sheets interviewed on baseball tonight and for the Brewers to basically lead off an ESPN program. I wish Sheets would learn how to give an interview though http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Near perfect game today for the Brew Crew. If everyone is contributing on this offense and we get plays like we did from Hall and Hardy, this could be a special team. I have to remind myself that it's just 1 out of 162. Go Brewers!
  10. Look at the arms in the OF for LA. Pierre in CF, and Brady Clark in RF. Throw Jacque Jones in LF and you've got no one who can throw it to home plate on the fly http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. small ball? what's that? one run per inning would be just fine with me all season long http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. I will be working during today's game, but will follow on Gamecast and try to catch the end of the game. I can't believe it's Opening Day, it's been such a long and tantalizing offseason. GO Brewers! Make this series a preview of the NLCS http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hall: 2 for 4, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 runs Jenkins: 3 for 4, 3 singles, 1 RBI Brewers win 6-3
  13. wow. so since there are x amount of spots on major league rosters and a significant bunch more trying to win those spots, the ones that didn't or haven't made it "suck"? Being paid a lot of money doesn't make them any less human.
  14. I may be in the minority but I wouldn't do that trade. Jenkins, while more expensive, is also better and has but one truly horrific year. I would gamble on his career year, and imagine what a CAREER year from GJ might be. I tend to agree with this sentiment. There is no sense in flipping him for another outfielder. If anything, he gets moved for a position of need (3B, lefty reliever), but if I'm the Brewers I play Geoff Jenkins early and often this season. One good month would do wonders for his trade value and/or for the prospect of keeping him for the stretch run when he usually heats up. I don't know, I say hang on to him.
  15. a little late to be posting now, but I was drinking the last two nights, something I haven't been able to do as much of since graduating from Winona State a couple years ago. anyway, friday night me and my bro just went down to a few bars in River Falls to play pool, turned it into "let's get drunk!" Yeah, working Saturday was not fun, but obviously wasn't bad enough to make me not want to do it again http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif So then last night after work I head up to Maple Grove (suburb in NW Twin Cities) where my buddy's gf is throwing herself a 23rd birthday party, which I could forgive since she had a pool table and outdoor hot tub! It was friggin cold, I had icicles forming in my hair Lots of good looking girls who reminded me why I loved college so much. Drank beer till about 5am, and so here I am at almost 9pm at work still feeling a bit under the weather. But it was a good weekend and well worth it! Mmm, reading some of these older posts makes me long for long July afternoons with Uecks on the radio and a tall frosty in hand.
  16. Turnbow completely lost command of his slider. He became a one pitch pitcher and big league hitters can hit almost anyone's fastball if that's the only pitch that can be thrown over the plate. The same thing happened to Brad Lidge, just to a lesser degree.Lidge had trouble commanding his slider, suddenly hitters were ripping his 97mph fastball all over the field because it was the only pitch he could throw for a strike. Lidge is better than Turnbow, but hitters don't "figure out" guys that throw 97 and have a biting slider. If Turnbow can find a way to get his slider over like he did for over a year,he'll be fine.If not,he's toast. agree 100%. hitters can't figure out the type of stuff Turnbow had for a year and a half. his slider left him. if he can throw it where he means to, he can get hitters out. he used to paint the outside corner with his fastball and just let the slider fall off the table low and away. he couldn't do that second half last season.
  17. It seems like a stretch to call Bill Hall a bench player at all in 06. He was starting four of five games even before Hardy was injured.
  18. "Rant over." yeah, I don't think that exactly works at brewerfan.net don't be afraid of a heated debate, there isn't much else to talk about anyway. Suppan is a fine pitcher, but I can't rationalize spending 10, 11, 12, or 13 million on him when Vargas is arguably comparable to him. A guy like Jason Schmidt could've had a definite impact, but I think we have pitchers on the verge of the majors (villanueva) who can duplicate what Suppan can produce. why break the bank for a guy like that when you are small market? Granted this would be way better than the Gil Meche signing, but it's in the same discussion for me. and I don't think it's very likely that he would choose Milwaukee over a couple of the other destinations interested if the money offered is even equal. just say no to Suppan (just like Maddux).
  19. sounds pretty bleak. but again, who do we really expect to get for the likes of Kevin Mench, Brady Clark, and Derrick Turnbow?
  20. I really do like Capellan too. I think he could be our future closer with that sick slider of his. maybe Aquino or Sarfate are more likely to be dealt, but moving Aquino or Sarfate wouldn't net us as much as Capellan would, am I correct?
  21. I'm expecting a Rowand/Lieber for Mench/Capellan deal for some reason.... yeah I think that would be the deal that could happen. but it seems we might have to add just a little something (Hendrickson?) to make it work. though maybe not for just one year of Lieber...
  22. according to Rotoworld.com: Sources told the Chicago Tribune that reports the Cubs made Jason Schmidt a three-year offer worth $44 million-$45 million were false. Though they have interest in the right-hander, the Cubs are not believed to have made a solid offer, the paper reports.
  23. Islands is that 580 AM that has that HS football? I'm trying to find the Brewers on 580 and can't get it.
  24. what's really wierd is that ESPN's gamecast is stuck as well? did someone drop a nuke?
