Mark Mulder

Posted

ESPN Insider is reporting that Mark Mulder is ready to audition for teams. It says his goal is to pitch for a team almost right away and his agent says Mulder feels very strong. The report does not mention any particular teams that are interested or that are going to watch him pitch.

I remember the Brewers being interested in him during the winter and Spring Training. If he looks good and at the right price, this may be a good move and worth it based on our pitchers recent struggles and the apparent lack of pitching depth on the trade market.

I meant to start a thread 2-3 weeks ago to see if anyone had heard what happened with him.

If the price is right, wouldn't hurt......

Will the day ever come when the Brewers' entire starting rotation is made up of former Cardinals?

(I'm not saying the Mulder idea is without merit)

I have very little faith that a guy who hasn't pitched effectively in the majors for 4 years is going to suddenly be effective again. He's worth a look I suppose, but I hold out very little hope he'd be any help this year.

Apparently, he's in much better shape, and he's been working with a former pitching coach to correct a "minor mechanical flaw". He'll be throwing for teams within 7-10 days.

EDIT: I remembered there was already a topic about Mulder, so I just deleted my separate thread and posted it here.

It'll be a minor league deal with a option to opt out if not in the bigs, I assume. Anyone would be lucky to get him if that's the case.

There's not much left of the minor leagus season, so that would have to be an option that kicks in quickly, like after 2 starts.

Which minor league season? Nashville plays until the 7th of September regardless. That's enough time 3-4 starts if they wanted to go that route.
