New Computer Problem - Backlit Black Screen Popping Up

Maybe one of you could help me understand what's going on.

 

I just bought a new laptop, a Gateway. Anyway, it has 4GB memory, an Athlon 64 x2 QL-64 processor, and Windows Vista 64 Home Edition.

 

While running it, the screen occasionally goes black (although it still is backlit). This has happened a couple of times after it sits on screensaver for a while. Although it also has happened a couple of times while I'm using the computer. Once the screen goes black it doesn't come back on and I have do a restart. I should mention that this isn't a problem with it going into hibernate, as I turned that off. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? This is my first time with Vista 64, so I'm wondering if it is just a case where it's a buggy program (I'll be updating to Windows 7 once it comes out).

Is power save mode on?

Might be a driver problem then. I would go to the manufacturers website and download the recent video card drivers for the laptop.

If you're sure it's not a power setting, it sounds like a hardware problem with the video card. Definitely update the drivers, if that doesnt do it I'd return it if you still can.
