Joe Blanton trade idea

Since the A's are looking for a DH or leftfielder, what about offering Jenkins or Mench and maybe Zack Jackson for Blanton?

He is 26 and is coming off a 16 win season in 06', and a 200 inning with a 3.50ish era in 05', and hes only 26. It says in the A's winter meetings checklist on MLB.com that he could be available. I think he would be a very solid #2 or #3 in our rotation for a long time.

Then we could sign someone like Craig Wilson or Jose Guillen to play in left for us.

Why would it take way more than that? Jackson is considered a future middle of the rotation starter and Jenkins would be an upgrade over Jay Payton.

What if we picked up some of Jenkins contract and added a reliver, maybe Turnbow for example, would that make it more realistic, or would that be too much?

Blanton has been very good and is cheap...

would you trade capuano for jenkins and jackson, because thats close to what you are suggesting..

I agree with Pogo. Why would the A's trade a guy that proved he can pitch at the major league level for an unproven minor leaguer and a lousy outfielder? It definitely would take more than that to get Blanton.

[ Jackson is considered a future middle of the rotation starter and Jenkins would be an upgrade over Jay Payton. ]

"future" is the key word. There's a lot of guys who were supposed to be a lot of future things...

To even be considered, I would think the Brewers would have to pick up ALL of Jenkins's salary... but even then, I don't think the A's are going to give up one of their building-block pitchers for a guy in his FA year, and another guy who's still making his living with potential.

How is Jenkins considered a lousy outfielder, he is a very good defensive outfielder, and has hit over 25 home runs in 3 out of the last four years and has a career .849 ops. I actually wouldn't mind keeping him, but it is fairly obvious that he will be traded.

Blanton's possibly being available was a suggestion in a Ken Rosenthal bit today. He said it may be that the A's would consider trading one of their pre-arby assets for a bevy of even younger assets who could be blooming when their new park opens, then suggested Blanton could be one of those guys.

It would seem very unlikely, but I wouldn't put it past Melvin to pull off a trade like that.

Blanton is a player I'd be thrilled to see the Brewers aquire. I think a combination of Zack Jackson and Corey Hart could get it done, and I would striongly consider doing that, especially if the Brewers are considering putting Hall and/or Braun in the outfield
