Brewers sign 19-year-old Dominican RHP Eduard Reyes

...according to the Dominican Prospect League site:

Reyes, 19, was perhaps the most efficient pitcher in the DPL. Not

only did Reyes hold DPL to an amazing .069 OBP but also demonstrated he

has advanced quality pitches with a 17 Strikeouts per 9 innings ratio

and a 17.5 Strikeouts-Walk ratio. The Brewers will certainly push Reyes to an advanced rookie league once their season begins. Reyes becomes the 4th player from the prospect-rich Patriotas to move on to the next level.

Obviously not the greatest competition but those numbers are ridiculous

Agreed. However, i would like to see how he develops. A kid who has a 17.5 K/BB ratio is always nice to have in the system, and at 19, has a lot of time to develop.

Just to clarify, it looks like that was a typo; from the stats page, Reyes had 15 strikeouts and 2 walks in 8.1 innings. The scouting reports are going to be much more useful than those numbers, in this case.

Ah- very small sample size then

I will wait to hear about his stuff as for all that we know he could max out at 85

Yep. Could be nothing, could turn into a nice signing. Gotta wait and see.

For an international signing, yes. It means he's been eligible to sign for several years but hasn't until now, so his scouting reports probably aren't going to excite anyone.
