I'd actually DFA Gerut and let Cust and Hart share RF duties.

Cust is not even close to being a competent outfielder. He should be a DH only, which is probably part of why Oakland cut him loose. DFAing Gerut, who can competently handle CF & hit righties pretty well, would be a horrible mistake.

I agree on not wanting Cust anywhere near a glove. That said, barring a serious injury, Gerut looks to have almost no role at all on the team beyond a pinch hitting chance once in awhile. With him being a lefty and Macha preferring Edmonds, Gerut is our 2 million dollar designated sun flower seed eater.

Great point on Gerut, Danzig. I'm really not sure why anyone thinks we really need Gerut . . . UNLESS the point is letting the #5 guy be someone whose development isn't hindered by getting only 2-3 ABs and a few late innings in the field any given week.
