Can Bill Hall pitch? YES

For the uninitiated, a thread title just like this caused great furor in 2007 here at Brewerfan.net. Well the author of that thread should feel slightly vindicated. Bill Hall is currently pitching for Boston and just retired the side in order.

Here's the original thread:

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Melvin is such an idiot. Selling low on another pitcher with great potential.

Seriously, this is great. Good to see Hall flashing the heat.

At least as a pitcher he'd be a solid hitter for his position.

Sorry had to say it. I honestly wonder how many position players have the hidden ability to pitch.

At this point Hall doesn't have much to lose. He's not even hitting Uecker! That is pretty awesome he pitched (and even more awesome that he did so effectively).

He has a lot of movement on those pitches too. Look out, could have another spot. How cool would that be if he would play the utility role and pitch. Super utility you might say.

this just reminds me why I love Billy Hall.

Yeah, wow. I just saw the highlights, and if I had no idea who he was, I would've thought he was a pitcher.

This may be the greatest day in the history of the sport.

Makes me curious if Hall pitched much in high school. The motion looks more natural than, say, Jeff Cirillo pitching against the Brewers in Arizona.

I read an article about it, and I guess he did pitch in high school. He was hoping to be allowed to throw a curve and change, but Varitek wouldn't let him.

Cirillo pitched in college and was told that he would never make it in the minors as a HITTER, therefore he should tell teams he wanted to pitch

!!!

What was Melvin thinking?

Not surprising given his ability to throw from 3rd. Wonder if Wes Helms would be an upgrade to the bullpen?

Billy looked pretty good on the mound. I bet he'd toss a no no if they let him use a pink ball.

As the author of the Kieschnick page referenced in the first thread, I'm thinking it may now finally be time to make a Bill Hall analog, nearly a decade after the meme first hit and during a similarly bleak season.

MIthc Williams and Dan Plesac were impressed on MLB tonight or whatever that show is on MLB Network. Said he had good mechanics and should be used again in blowouts.

I never thought when I started that thread it would be my best shot at "immortality." Of a sort. I was just feeling silly then, and at the time, Bill was in his superman mode.

It was great that so many had fun with it, even now!
