Braden Looper a Cub -- Latest: Retires Upon Not Making 25-Man Roster

[JohnBriggs12]

Just heard on "the Score" that the Cubs signed Looper and Augie Ojeda to minor league deals with ST invites.

Cubs are really collecting bad pitchers and as many guys who were with them in 03 as possible

If Carlos Silva can turn it around, I guess they figure almost anyone can.

Despite his poor overall ability Looper is an inning eater who takes the ball every fifth day. As an injury replacement on a team who has four good starters Looper could be plugged in and help prevent one injury from blowing up the pen. His biggest problem here was that we needed more than that from him.

Well, he didn't pitch for anyone this past season, so I'm not sure how reliable he'll really be.

The Cubs off-season has a similar feeling to the Brewers last off-season, when the Brewers brought in some warm bodies thinking that they couldn't possibly be worse than the year before. I know Wellenmeyer and Looper are necessarily comparable to Wolf and Davis, but it kind of has that same feel.

This really makes me think of how far this Brewers' staff has come in the last two years.

Looper was informed by the Cubs he wouldn't make the team, and has decided to retire.
