What's the deal with 1989?

I've noticed some of the Brewers caps worn by fans have the date 1989 on the back of them. Am I being completely dense in not knowing what this stands for?

I think the dates on the back of caps denote the year's model that hat is based off.

Yeah I always thought they would have said 1982, but all the retro style the franchise twins enterprise hats have 1989 on the back. Maybe it is either the year it is styled after or Younts MVP year sound nice to.

It's a "Cooperstown Collection" hat, and since Yount is a Brewers representative in Cooperstown, and won an MVP in '89, that is why the hat says "1989" on the back.
