Bullpen- Interest in Dotel

I'm making a general bullpen thread, since I've seen multiple reports that we are looking at a couple of different pitchers.

I just saw on mlbtraderumors.com that we are interested in Octavio Dotel.

I've also hear that we are interested in bringing back Takashi Saito.

Are they really interested in him pitching, or are they more wanting him on their team so Braun doesn't have to face in in the playoffs again?

Dotel makes a ton of sense after the new changes to FA compensation. Before he would've costed us our 1st pick but now its nothing.

Plus we would steal him from St Louis so it would be like killing 2 birds with one stone.

My reliever wish list goes like this:

Set up:

1. Lidge

2. Rauch

3. Fransisco

7th Inning:

1. Siato

2. Hawkins

3. Dotel

Middle Relief:

1. Zumaya

2. Wheeler

3. Coffey

Add 3 of the guys listed above to Axford, Braddock, Estrada, Loe, Parra, Kintzler and McClendon and the Brewers should have a well rounded and deep bullpen.

I bet the team signs a couple of these types - older veteran relievers. Saito, Hawkins, Dotel, etc. They sort of all fall into a big bucket. Doug will check on them all, and pick two. As someone said, please, no 3 year deals. All these types are older and should only have one year contracts. Maybe an option, but more than that is dangerous. Saito and Hawkins - both guys I'd like back - netted us a total of about 90 innings over the past 2 years. Not exactly a great return on $10 million.

I'd be on board with this if we aren't talking a riske multi year deal.

So did you mean "risky" or "Riske"? Oh, wait, never mind. Same thing...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I see my lame attempt at humor was noticed.

I'm serious though, no more multi year deals to middle relievers. On a small scale, that Riske deal was absolutely horrible, one of the worst deals in team history.

Melvin said in his "post-mortem" press conference that they would have interest in bringing back one or both of Saito & Hawkins. I'd be surprised if the Brewers have ruled Hawkins out in their own minds b/c Saito could go elsewhere and Hawkins was generally quite solid last year, plus he's younger than Saito by a few years (then again, so is almost all the rest of MLB).
