They just forfeit the last 2 so they can start the off season early

Hey,

Just wanted to say I like you as a poster. If you ever wanted some company in Spring Training next year I'm game. I'm moving to Burbank, Ca and I can drive there.

Oops, meant to put 9-17

Don't worry, I knew what record you meant to say.

4 vs Saint Louis (Masterson; Lackey; Lynn; Wainwright)

After Waino's admission of "a dead arm", Matheny said he will give him a rest. He'll miss at least one start, more if the team doesn't need him. The pressure put on by everybody imaginable to dump Masterson prompted Matheny to blast the writers and "internet bloggers" in his post game presser today, but the "Master of Disaster" has seen his last start in St. Louis.

The arms replacing those two will most likely be rookies Tyler Lyons and Marco Gonzales, who pitched well in the 2nd game of the double header on Saturday. Both saw action earlier this year, both were decent, but not really ready for prime time. They can be counted on to pitch five, maybe six decent innings per start and give up 2-3 runs. Not great, but better than the other two at this point.

There's a little sense of dread around town about Brox joining the Brewers. He may not be quite the shut-down pitcher he once was, but he still gives the Cardinals fits. Of course, what pitcher doesn't this year?

I just don't believe the Reds are throwing in the towel THIS early. I'm pretty curious about the PBNL. (is tomorrow "later"?) At any rate, how ironic is that on September the 1st we're dead even, just like on April 1st? From this point on it's not a marathon, it's a race.

To be perfectly honest, I think the Pirates are better than both of us... right now. Their 3-2 loss today was a near miracle. Hiesey with 2 HR's...really?! We play 'em next, and 2 of 3 would would be nice, but I'm not betting on it.

Except they didn't. Not really. At least it's intentionally mis-leading. They have had two bad stretches. They lost 8 of 10(right now) and 11 of 12 in two different stretches. And they still managed to bounce back after the first streak and open the lead back up. (By the way, Cards have the exact same record as we do since the ASB).

And yet we're still in 1st place.

I'm also kinda at a loss as to why Melvin or RR would be on the hot seat for a team that was projected to finish 4th and has been in 1st longer than any other team in MLB. Amazing how one series and it's all doom and gloom.

The pessimism is just sad.

Anyway, my prediction;

3 @ Chicago N (Turner; Arrietta; Hendricks) 2-1

4 vs Saint Louis (Masterson; Lackey; Lynn; Wainwright) 2-2

4 vs Miami (Penny; Koehler; Cosart; Evoladi) 3-1

3 vs Cincinnati (Latos, Axelrod; Leake) 2-1

3 @ Saint Louis (Lackey; Lynn; Wainwright) 2-1

3 @ Pittsburg (Locke; Volquez; Worley) 2-1

3 @ Cincinnati (Cueto; Latos; Axelrod) 1-2

3 vs Chicago N (Hendricks; Wada; Wood) 2-1

16-10

STL has had a much easier schedule than us, yet we're still in 1st. Maybe they get real hot, but we'll at least hold on for a WC spot and I think we win the division.

This is provided Gomez is alright.

And Garza will pitch like an ace down the stretch, Broxton himself will be alright, but the additional flexibility to go R/L in an inning will be huge for the pen.

Yep and we miss the Playoffs. 10 of those 14 losses will be where the offense scores 2 runs or less. That's been the team's problem for some 100games now. They'll win 7 games because they score 6 or more.

14-12. Tied for WC #2 an eliminated by tie-breaks.

You can't be eliminated by tie breakers. If we are tied for the 2nd wild card- we will play the other team in a 1-game wild card. Then if we win, we play the regular 1 game wild card.

Anyway

CHI - 3-0 - because baseball is a goofy game

STL - 2-2

MIA - 3-1

CIN - 1-2

14-12 bringing the season down to the final weekend and possibly requiring a play in game.

3-4 vs St. Louis and 11-8 vs everyone else.

Broxton will be a big help

Nelson will be useful out of the pen

Offensive rebound starts this weekend vs the cubs

some SP strugles require adjusting of the rotation and 100 pitch count standard
