Delmon Young

There are rumors that Young may go the JUCO route and possibly be in the draft next year. Could it be possible that the Brewers would end up with both Young and Weeks?

I knew negotiations weren't going well for Tampa Bay and Young. This is the first I've heard of this. It's an intriguing possibility. I think the idea is a bargaining chip for his negotiators. If Young were to go JUCO, roughly how long would the D-Rays have to sign him? Isn't it the same case as it was with the Orioles and Adam Loewen, where they signed him a few days before the draft?

If this were to happen, this is identical to the Adam Loewen situation from last year. And the rules (I'm paraphrasing, too lazy to look 'em up and cut/paste), that negotiations can continue until Delmon attends his first class. Then no "formal" talks can be made (but if his agent has other D-Rays as clients, then they can always "talk") until his academic or athletic season ends, whichever comes last. Last season Loewens JC team was in the playoffs, limiting the time the O's could negotiate. Talks are then shut off with any DFE candidate at 12:01 am, one week before the draft.

Maybe Delmon WANTS to come to the Brewers, so unless TB comes up with the cash the Brewers can draft him next year!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

In fact I propose we offer Detroit a trade: Sexson/Jenkins for Dmitri Young, straight up - or maybe if they throw in a prospect, I heard they have some CF with great skills on that team.

Then Delmon can play with his brother.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The Brewers certainly didn't help the D-Rays by signing Weeks for a minimum of $4.8 million. The D-Rays have reportedly been strapped for cash before, but still have managed to sign marquee picks such as Dewon Brazelton & BJ Upton the last 2 years, so I wouldn't write Young off to a JC so soon.

Plus, I want a pitcher next year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

That's what he says, but what he means is he wants a 5'11 RH High School relief pitcher. He likes to go against conventional wisdom.

That and whoever he wants we don't draft....so maybe playing the reverse game...say one thing....want the opposite. Smart man that patrick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
