Brewers to run Miller Park Team Shops

This should be a good thing, as it sounds as though there will be some reduced prices on Brewers merchandise. In the past, it often felt like it required a 2nd mortgage to buy a hooded sweatshirt. Maybe not so much anymore. Though the SSH discount days did offer some price relief. I wonder if they'll continue to offer that discount.

I will believe the lower prices when I physically see them.

Merchandise at stadiums is such a racket, and it always shocks me to see so many people paying those prices.

It's ridiculous.

That's just captive audience economics. People will always pay for something right in front of them at a place they already are. Same reason people overpay for stuff at Disney World. Kohl's carries the same shirt, Walmart probably does too now. But you're there, you're in the mood and you want that craving satisfied. That is how most people's brains work.

The prices will be lower though, how much lower, not sure. There is no middle party to share profits with so it naturally would be passed to the consumer. I actually didn't even know the Brewers didn't run the stores.

From the article it sounds like outsourcing it was the norm around the league until recently. As someone in the retail industry I am guessing the reason for it was that the contracted company had established relationships with vendors. It is much easier to do it that way than for the Brewers to get agreements with Majestic, BDA, Nike, etc., whatever companies are all in the stores. That would be a lot of work for a large organization whose speciality isn't retail to take on. But the landscape has changed and teams are much more involved in the retail side than they used to be.

When your average decent name-brand t-shirt is $10 more than it is at mlb.com, which itself is more "market norm" but still overpriced, there's a glaring integrity/profiteering problem.

It’d be great if they included some local shops in there.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Will that put them in a position to stock some unique items? I mean I'm willing to pay more for something if it's got some special quality to it but typically that's not the case in a professional team sports shop.

I guess since the Brewers don't run their own concession stands it shouldn't be a surprise that they don't run their own in-stadium store either.

Same company ran both, actually.
