One of the other by products of Yelich being bad is the leader of the team seems to be a guy who has been here for what 100 games?? It would be nice if the face of the franchise could rally the boys and get some fire going but he seems to be mired in his own muck so tough for him to be the man. Pitchers can't do it so maybe Cain can step up the leadership.

Cardinals lead off walk = run

Brewers lead off walk = DP

No Cubs bullpen to bail out the struggling Brewers offense tonight.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Cardinals consistently play sound fundamental baseball. It's not flashy but it pays off in the long run. It really is the "foundation" for their perennial success.

It's hard to listen to Yelich's game.

I mean...that was 90 mph. Dead middle.

I am slowly coming aboard the JBJ no playoffs train. If Cain gets hurt, fine. He can be added, right? Otherwise, roll with Taylor.

Yeah, at this point I’m not sure the defense is enough to justify JBJ getting a playoff spot.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I agree with this 100%. I'm on this train now too.

You are no longer trying to win if you play JBJ. That's all you can say. There is no way he should ever be hitting in a game you are trying to win. I would love to be Garcia's agent come winter. Imagine sitting down with Stearns and saying you really going to roll with Yelich Cain and Bradley in the outfield?? OK I will walk.

I didn't expect to be reminding myself how little this game matters, but here we are. The Cardinals will do that to you.

Still time for a Vogelbach, but let's just hit the rest of this series. I know we've got Woodruff, Anderson, and Houser, which isn't the best, but we should be able to get to Woodford and Mikolas. And we've seen Wainwright enough too.

It's about how they are playing to ready for the playoffs. Cardinals are peaking Brewers looking peaked.

I might have even cut JBJ some slack if he'd hit that hard, but an oppo dribbler on that pitch about sums up the guy's year.

I feel bad for him. Something just never clicked. He needs a total mental reset.

A bunt wouldn’t have been the worst idea in that situation. His odds of getting a hit off the LHP in that situation were so low it would’ve been worth a shot.

The mystery of this signing is he's never been that good on offense. He's had 2 years above average. In paying him 12 million dollars when he had no other serious offers it never in any way made sense.

I don't feel bad for him. If this was back in June I would feel bad for him, but the season's two weeks away from ending. He's had much more than enough time to figure it out. Good riddance to him.

Good point. He can run well enough he should've started bunting a long time ago.

I have a really bad feeling about the next 6 games against the Cards.

I don't want to be too gloomy, but --just now-- the Cardinals are stepping on the gas while we are still in cruise control.

I've been fighting the urge to say this but I'm going to say it now. If the Cardinals win the wild card game, they're going to the World Series and probably win it. And I will stand by that statement until proven wrong.

Tonight sucked, but the Brewers will be just fine. They’ll clinch the division by no later than this weekend and be able to focus on getting ready for the playoffs.
Not just “at Night” anymore.
