It's on to the bottom of the fifth in Birmingham. If Biloxi is going to score runs, it will start in the sixth as the Birmingham bullpen sports a lofty era north of 9. Let's get those rally caps on, gents!

After a very encouraging performance from RHP Joey Matulovich (2 innings, 5 strikeouts, only allowed 1 player to reach base), RHP Kent Hasler comes in for the first time since April 10. Wisconsin still leads 3-1, now in the top of the 8th inning.

That Singleton homer was a beauty:

Man, have I told you how many times I love watching Singleton play baseball? Perhaps, a cool three times in this past week? The man is a joy to watch play ball.

Boy, if Biloxi can't pull this one out they are going to look at the inefficacy of McGee, Dillard, and Lutz in the 4-6 spots, respectively. 0-9 with 8 k's is not going to get anything done. Wiemer rips a lead off double to start the top half of the eighth and we get 2 k's and a first pitch fly out from that same group. The Biloxi bats continue to sleep and the pitching continues to hold them aloft. 2-1 Birmingham still on to the bottom of the 8th.

RHP Luis Perdomo is a man throwing against boys now. 10 pitches, 9 strikes, 3 strikeouts swinging. Call him up.

Hear ye. Hear ye.

Perez's first multi-hit game (and 0 K's) along with the star turns from Mendez and Quero. Figueroa and Segura both gave up a fair number of baserunners, but not allowing an extra base hit probably saved them.

They both have good stuff - definitely workable in a relief role at higher levels (too early to know on Starting). Where they struggle with, as many youngsters do, is controlling their zone. They both have a good fastball and Figeuroa is even working in a change-up but they are not in control of their stuff yet. It will be fun to watch that develop - or, I guess, continue (albeit, that wouldn't be as fun!) - throughout the season.

I touched on this in tomorrow's report BUT let this sink in:

Nasvhille just completed its 3rd shutout in a row. This is their first such streak since 2003. They have now gone 27.1 innings in a row scoreless. Their pitching staff is sporting a pedestrian 2.66 overall - tops in the International League.
