AA Biloxi fell yesterday, so needs a win tonight at the Mississippi Braves to get back to .500. 23-year old RHP TJ Shook (2.41 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 11.5 K/9 in 33 2/3 innings in High-A this year) is making his AA debut after a recent promotion, while battery-mate 24-year old C Jason Lopez (.639 OPS in 200 plate appearances last year, principally in AA) makes his organizational debut after missing the first 1.5 months of the season:

CF Jackson Chourio singled and made it to 3rd base on a fielding error, then scored on a wild pitch. Gotta love it. 2-1 Mudcats in the first.

Sounds like the Low-A Value Meal. Love those free bases (when it's to our benefit).

Justin Jarvis has given up 2 runs through six complete - one earned. 10 k's. Have a ballgame Mr. Jarvis! T-Rats trail 2-1. Rally caps: on.

The Jesus Chirinos on base party continues as the Mudcats lead 6-2 in the seventh inning. I believe he has now reached in 14 straight? It might be 13. Either way, what a run he's on. Arbert Cipion builds off of last night, and this season's, performance(s) grabbing a single and taking two walks in the lead-off slot. He is adjusting quite nicely to the top of the order.

Off a Jon Singleton single tying the game 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Tyler Herb enters his second inning of relief work. He has gone 1 2/3 scoreless with a hit, a walk, and a punch out. Here's hoping you stay hot Tyler. A promotion well-deserved!

Joey Wiemer doesn't stay cold all too long. That's his 10th HR of the young season and he stays one ahead of red hot Jakson Reetz. He knocks in Gabe Holt and the Shuckers now lead 4-0.

Here's Jakson's earlier HR to take the 1-0 lead.

And, it was a back-to-back as Tristan Lutz (who has come back on a tear, honestly) hit a ding dong immediately thereafter

That's THREE back-to-back HR's in the past five games? Goodness. Let's GO!

Is Reetz any kind of a prospect? How Is his defense behind the plate?

any kind of offense from the catcher position would certainly be welcome.

He's having a career year after switching organizations - he spent his entire career with the Washington Nationals previous to this. I touched on it in my report yesterday: He's still only 26. He did get a very brief cup of coffee in 2021 with the Nationals Big Club. Of note, as well: he was a 3rd round pick in 2014. SO, at one time, he was very highly thought of as a prospect.

SO, where does he stand today?

He's extremely athletic with a really solid athletic frame for a backstop. The offensive developments this season are truly noteworthy and quite interesting as this type of development takes him from a Double-A/Triple-A guy into a serious conversation of: can he make it and stick in the Big Leagues as a solid back-up? Is he more than that?

He's quite a good pitch framer already. He has, I would say, an average to slightly above-average arm - it won't blow you away but it's not on the level of Darrien Miller who really currently tosses a bean bag if we're being honest. No offense, Darrien. If this offensive production continues, he starts to enter another conversation altogether. So, we'll have to wait and see. I personally love the way he show up to play. This is a guy, having watched Biloxi all season, who is ready to go. He's intense. He's focused. He's definitely up there in my pleasant surprises of 2022. We know there's a lot of season left but, man, he is going at a pace right now where I am surprised when I don't see something productive from him in a given series. He's a net positive in the line-up.

Oh the Shuckers are just Shuckin' it up. After Nash Walters allowed 2 to cross in his second inning of work, Arnaldo Hernandez walks a batter to load the bases (in a count he was merited a pitch clock violation and lost a 1-2 count to 2-2) and proceeds to give up a bases clearing deeeeeep double off the wall in right field. It is now 5-4 Mississippi. This is the second bullpen melt down in the 7th inning in two nights. Woof. Tough sledding. It was 4-0 Shuckers entering the inning tonight.

Jakson Reetz homered again. My goodness! That's now 5 home runs in six games. Ummmmm, yeah.

Any chance his ceiling is higher than AAAA guy? He has never hit nearly as well in his entire pro career.

Sorry, I didn't see the discussion on the second page before I posted.
