The Low-A Mudcats have won 4 games in a row and send RHP Israel Puello (7.62 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 12.5 K/9; somehow a .403 BABIP against him) to the mound today at home against the Wood Ducks. CF Jackson Chourio continues to impress, with a .947 OPS through 69 plate appearances:

AAA Nashville and Louisville have 6+ remaining innings from last night's contest, with the Sounds leading 7-0. RHP Alec Bettinger is set to make his 3rd appearance of 2022, picking up where RHP Josh Lindblom left off after 3 innings of work:

The Mudcats trail 1-0 in the 3rd inning and C Jose Sibrian has exited early with an injury, replaced by Jeferson Quero.

RHP Israel Puello ably covered 5 innings (2 runs (1 earned), 5 hits, 1 walk, 7 Ks) and gives way to RHP Edwin Jimenez.

Unfortunately, the Carolina offense has produced no runs on 1 hit and 8 Ks. They trail 2-0.

High-A Wisconsin needs a victory at home today over South Bend to split this week's series 3-3. LHP Antoine Kelly (2.14 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 33 2/3 innings) is scheduled to make his 2nd start of the week, while the team welcomes back RF Micah Bello from injury (last played May 14th):

I know it is just High-A, but I am beginning to get alternate site-level excited about Antoine Kelly again.

Yeah, Antoine Kelly struck out the first 6 batters he faced tonight and 8 through 3 innings. Awesome!

And the Wisconsin offense is coming through for the 2nd straight day, with a 2-out Micah Bello double scoring 2 in the 2nd innings (plus himself on an error), then Joe Gray Jr. smacked a 2-run shot (6th home run of the year) in the 3rd inning.

The Timber Rattlers lead 5-0 in the 4th inning.

The AA Shuckers need a win on the road today to salvage a 3-3 series split with the Mississippi Braves, with LHP Nick Bennett making his 2nd start of the week (5 IP, 2 runs, 4 Ks and a win in his first Tuesday start). RF Tristen Lutz has been solid in his 7 games back since injury (11-for-28 = .393 AVG):

The Mudcat offense once again woke up in the 9th inning, but this time generated only 3 runs instead of 6, falling 5-3 in the series finale.

Kudos to the men for producing 4 singles and a walk (particularly Jeferson Quero and Oswel Leones with 2 outs) in that final inning to bring the potential game-winning run to the plate.

Hey, it's still a 4-2 series win for Carolina this week. Well done gentlemen.

Unfortunately, 2 infield singles in the 6th inning put Antoine Kelly in a difficult situation as he was over 80 pitches on the night. Then he had to face 26-year old RHH Jake Washer and his 1.151 OPS, so ended up walking him on his 92nd pitch.

So Kelly leaves the game after 5 2/3 shutout innings with the bases loaded and RHP Kent Hasler coming in to hopefully strand those runners.

Instead, Hasler gives up a first pitch, 3-RBI double, so Kelly's ERA will take a hit.

But hey, the Cubbies couldn't "hit" Kelly. This is just dumb luck. Kelly K'd 13 batters in 5 2/3 innings.

...And the next batter singled on the first pitch he faced. It's 5-4 Wisconsin, still in the 6th inning.

And now Wisconsin's fallen behind in the 7th inning, with RHP Robbie Baker giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. We trail 6-5 after dominating through 5 2/3 innings. Let's go Timber Rattlers!!

In Nashville, the fireworks which started yesterday continue, as the teams have now scored 24 runs on 27 hits. The Sounds lead 17-7 in the 8th inning of the continuation of yesterday's rain-paused contest, with a second game (7-inning affair, I believe) coming up later tonight.

Wisconsin clawed one run back in the 8th inning on a Wes Clarke sacrifice fly, scoring Tyler Black (who'd singled). So it's 6-6 heading to the 9th inning.

Nashville leads this week's series with Louisville 4-1 and there's still another 7-inning game to play today. RHP Caleb Boushley will make his second start of the week (not LHP Ethan Small, who's still apparently sidelined with that flu bug), hoping to replicate his 5 IP, 2 run (1 earned), 3 hit effort on Tuesday. 30-year old 1B Jon Singleton definitely still has an eye and a power stroke, clobbering his 8th dinger earlier today to boost his season slash to .217 AVG / .366 OBP / .509 SLG:

1 - Jonathan Davis - LF
2 - Brice Turang - CF
3 - Mark Mathias - 2B
4 - Jon Singleton - 1B
5 - David Dahl - RF
6 - Pablo Reyes - SS
7 - Tyler White - DH
8 - Weston Wilson - 3B
9 - Alex Jackson - C
X - Caleb Boushley - P

RHP Cam Robinson faced the minimum 6 South Bend batters over two innings to give Wisconsin a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the 9th. We've got Carlos D. Rodriguez, Antonio Pinero and Micah Bello due up. How about a Micah Bello game-winning solo shot? It's 6-6, bottom 9.

A 6th inning Thomas Dillard RBI single knocks in Gabe Holt, so Biloxi is finally on the board, down 4-1 with RHP Nash Walters trying to keep it that way.

3-up, 3-down for the Timber Rattlers in the 9th inning, so we head to extras against South Bend

RHP James Meeker is in the game.

South Bend's manager played it the old fashioned way (sacrifice bunt to move ghost runner to 3rd base) and thankfully got nothing out of it (strikeout, fly out) in the top of the 10th inning off James Meeker.

We've got the top of the order due up in the bottom half (Tyler Black, Zavier Warren, Joe Gray Jr.), with Micah Ghost Bello on 2nd base.

Wisconsin has walked off the South Bend Cubbies 7-6 on a passed ball to score Micah Ghost Bello :)

Tyler Black opened the inning with a single to give Wisconsin runners on the corners with nobody out. They then intentionally walked Zavier Warren and allowed the passed ball while Joe Gray Jr. was at the plate.

That's a 3-3 series split for Wisconsin and South Bend, keeping the Timber Rattlers in 2nd place in their division.

2B Mark Mathias just hit his 4th home run of 2022, raising his average to .348 and OPS to .995. However, the Sounds trail the Bats 2-1 in the 2nd inning.

Biloxi trails 6-1 in the 8th inning and I'm sure that Manager Guerrero will be hoping for reinforcements on Tuesday (Tyler Black call-up?; a healthy Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell and/or Freddy Zamora?; callups for Brandon Knarr, Antoine Kelly, Kent Hasler?).

Nashville's fallen behind 4-1 in the 2nd inning, as Louisville has 4 hits (3 extra base hits) off RHP Caleb Boushley.

If Ethan Small can't go today, I'm not sure there's another innings eater available, so Boushley may need to cover at least 4 innings. Relievers Hobie Harris, Trevor Kelley, Matt Hardy, Connor Sadzeck and Peter Strzelecki should be available in relief.

When Kelly is good, he is REALLY good. I’m pretty confident he’d be a top 50 prospect right now if it weren’t for the injury last year.

I'd agree, except I'm not sure he still has his prospect status if it wasn't for that injury.

It will be interesting to see how the Brewers handle the starting rotation in Wisconsin. It seems increasingly clear that having Kelly face high-A hitters when he is on his game like he was today lands somewhere between pointless and sadistic, and Knarr clearly deserves his shot at Biloxi, too. Who replaces them, though? It feels too early for any of the youngsters. Taking into account the Brewers seem reluctant to fully stretch out Lazar do you drop Bullock down from AA? Stretch out Mort or Matulovich? Promote Brannon Jordan? Scour the Indy leagues?

Morales and Vassalotti have made the decision after the inevitable Robinson/Hasler promotions happen much easier.
