Carolina has lost 3 games in a row to trail Kannapolis 3-1 in this week's series, but has superb RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (3.46 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 in 54 2/3 innings) on the mound tonight. CF Jackson Chourio has reached base in 7 straight games and has a .731 SLG in July:

High-A Wisconsin is tied 2-2 in their series at South Bend and has RHP Justin Bullock (6.35 ERA in 28 1/3 innings at AA) starting for the first time at this level since his promotion to AA Biloxi in July 2021. The team also gladly welcomes C Darrien Miller (.762 season OPS) back to the lineup after he left Thursday's game early:

AAA Nashville has reeled off 7 consecutive wins and has RHP Tyler Herb starting tonight after 2 solid relief appearances (9 IP, 0 R, 10 H, 1 BB, 9 Ks). Offensively, 33-year old switch-hitting DH/LF Abraham Almonte keeps rolling, hitting a home run in 4 of his last 5 games:

AA Biloxi has won 2 games in a row to even up their series in Montgomery 2-2. 25-year old RHP Carlos Luna has been inconsistent this season but ramped up his strikeout numbers recently (27 Ks over last 17 innings). C Jakson Reetz has 5 home runs in his last 5 games:

Joey Wiemer hit a dub (his 18th)! Yay! Frelick is 2-for-2. Devanney just smacked his 12th ding Dong. Shuckers lead 4-0 in the top of the 4th. Go Shuckers!

Tyler Herb with yet another fantastic Sounds performance from a Starter in the Columbus series. I said it in yesterday's GT, but the Sounds pitching staff has challenged the Clippers International League leading offense and simply shut them down for 5 consecutive games in their ball park. They've broken open a Division lead that was 1.5 games coming in to a 6.5 game lead.

Tyler goes 6 complete: 1 earned run, 6 k's, 4 hits, 1 bb - the lone run a solo shot. In this week's interview series with Jeff Hem, Tyler talked about getting back to attacking hitters more - he felt, for whatever reason, he got away from challenging hitters with his best stuff. It sure looks like he did so tonight. Fantastic work!

How about the start to July for Jon Singleton and Brice Turang? Glorious stuff from our League leaders in Nashville. Brice came in to Columbus on a month long XB drought. He has a triple, two doubles (if memory serves), and now a HR in a pivotal road series at the number 2 ball club's stadium. You. Just. Love. To. See. It!

In closing: 8 W's in a row. Have. Not. Trailed in Columbus...who had just railed on the Cubs in Iowa to a tune of a 5-1 series victory. Put it in my veins. Wooooo Hooooo!

The Shuckers game was called as suspended in the top of the 10th with men on 1st and 2nd and two down for the Shuckers. They led 6-4 on the heels of this Thomas Dillard knock deep off the glove and wall (hard to tell which was first, honestly) to score Wiemer from 2nd and a speeding Andruw Monasterio (now a short-term Double-A legend in his brief stint if we're being honest - he's been unreal) who slides in beating a dropped tag on a backhand grab:

Hopefully, the rain suspension allows the Shuckers to toss a certain Cam Robinson in for his first shot at a Double-A Save when play resumes!

How about an ACL Brewers Blue 17-2 'W' over their friends and teammates on the ACL Brewers Gold?! My goodness. Can't wait to dive into that Box ?

Seeing the two homers by Perez, the Brewers are going to have some interesting decisions to make in the Carolina infield next season, especially given I'm guessing there is at least one repeat. Areinamo, Guilarte, Parra and Caballero all have OPSs over .800, Perez is up there, Jaraba and Barrios are starting to hit and had higher signing price tags. Low might be in Carolina in a dual role. Even a few of the other guys have at least shown flashes. And that isn't even considering the possibility that someone is added to the mix in the draft.

17 runs on 10 hits, 9 BB, 2 HBP, and 2 ERR(by the other team).

Perez was hitting .200 with a .667 OPS before this game. And even including this game, he's hitting .160 with a .560 OPS during July.  Let's have him hit well in two games straight before we plan to promote him.

I was talking about next season and him being in the mix for a backup infielder spot in Carolina. The Brewers were hitting him mostly toward the top of the lineup before Mitchell’s rehab stint started, so it seems there is something there they like.
