Sun. 7/31 - Let's End July with a Bang

Jason Lopez groundout, a Frelick full count strikeout, and a 1-2 Monasterio strikeout close the 9th. We're on to the Manfred's Man innings. As we are yet again in Extras. These two teams. 'Evenly matched' comes to mind.

And RHP Cam Robinson gets two groundouts on two pitches. The runner moves to third. He then gets the weak 2-1 ground out to Gabe Holt at second base. Thomas Dillard made a fantastic stab of an extremely hard hit grounder down the first base line for out number one. It's the Shuckers turn to bring in Manfred's Man.

Man, Garrett Mitchell just hit an absolute perfect contact laser directly to the 1B manning the gap between 1st and 2nd base. Sometimes the process does not get met with the result. Boooooo. Baseball is such a game.

We have bases juiced (Wiemer walk, Devanney sacrifices to the warning track in deep right center and Monasterio trots to third, Wiemer steals second base, Lutz walks) AND it's Thomas Dillard to the dish to try and win it. Two down. The tension is palpable through the muggy Biloxi air! DOH! A first pitch pop up to shallow far left field. And, we're on to the 11th inning.

Bold strategy to intentionally walk Sal Frelick in the bottom of the 11th inning to get to Andruw Monasterio.

Wham Bam Grand Slam. 6-2 Shucker victory. Monasterio’s season OPS in AA is now .999.

Oh baby. It. Was. A. Sight. To behold. Tense moments. AND, well, the season total of runs now stands at 113-116 Montgomery after this one. Do you think these teams are evenly matched? The records don't lie. ? Let's watch that AGAIN. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN.

Meanwhile, in Nashville, we're onto the 7th inning and it's a 1-1 ballgame. LHP Ethan Small with a fine outing - 5 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K. OH, and what's that? The lone run was via a Corey Ray solo shot? Yes, indeed. He picks up where he left off pre-IL stint. Let's go, Sounds. Let's bring another 'W' home!

That’s awesome. Blasted the first pitch off the Medical Arts Pharma and Hearing Center.

Isn’t Hendry Mendez the guy which was announced as going on the injured list earlier in the year, only to see the tweet deleted an hour later and him back in the lineup 1-2 days later? Let’s hope “Gumby” does it again. Prayers up.

Nashville has failed to cash in on a number of opportunities and now trails 2-1 going into the bottom of the 9th inning. Whitley, Lipka and Reetz are due up. Expecting a Reetz walk-off…

No dice. Lipka singled but was caught stealing. Reetz K’d to end it.

I love you Ethan Small.

PLEASE refine that breaking ball. Hey, get spry, and start working on a <gasps> fourth pitch ?

The 1 BB part is probably the best part of that line.  He really needs to work on limiting the walks otherwise it is going to be hard for him to be a starter or a reliever in MLB.  I believe he will figure it out as left handed pitchers sometimes take longer to develop.
